When a molten corium is relocated in a lower head of a reactor vessel, the ERVC (External Reactor Vessel Cooling) system is actuated as coolant is supplied into a reactor cavity to remove a decay heat from the molten corium during a severe accident. To achieve this severe accident mitigation strategy, the two-phase natural circulation flow in the annular gap between the external reactor vessel and the insulation should be formed sufficiently by designing the coolant inlet/outlet area and gap size adequately on the insulation device. For this reason, one-dimensional natural circulation flow tests were conducted to estimate the natural circulation flow under the ERVC condition of APR1400. The experimental facility is one-dimensional and scaled-down as the half height and 1/238 rectangular channel area of the APR1400 reactor vessel. As the water inlet area increased, the natural circulation mass flow rate asymptotically increased, that is, it converged at a specific value. And the circulation mass flow rate also increased as the outlet area, injected air flow rate, and outlet height increased. But the circulation mass flow rate was not changed along with the external water level variation if the water level was higher than the outlet height.
Since many islands are located in the South Sea, unexpected damage by tsunamis could be caused by mutual interferences between adjacent islands. In this study, the variation of run-up heights is investigated by using different crest lengths of incident waves and different distances between two adjacent islands. The run-up height sharply increases when the crest length of Incident waves is greater than the distance bewteen outer boundaries of two islands. The run-up height also increases as the distance between two adjacent islands decreases.

A granular herbicide applicator attached to conventional ride-on rice transplanter with 6 rows was developed in order to carry out both transplanting and herbicide application at once. It resulted in labor saving by 98%. The prototype is composed of a metering device and a spinning disc spreader. The application rate per 10a can be varied from 1 to 3 kg and the application swath is 1.8 m, which is the planting width of the ride-on rice transplanter with 6 rows. The angular speed of spinning disc and the application height were used as design factors to obtain the uniform distribution of herbicide granules. As the result of experiment, the distribution uniformity showed a tendency to be proportional to the increases of both spinner angular speed and application height. The prototype with angular speed of spinning disc of 7359 rpm and the application height of 20 cm was made and its distribution uniformity was relatively uniform with the CV(coefficient of variation) of 21.7%. In field test, when the tested herbicides such as ACl40+Stomp and Londax+YRC were applied, the weed control has continued for 65 days since transplanting was done.
Selective laser melting (SLM) is emerged as a new manufacturing technique to directly fabricate precise parts using metallic materials. The final characteristics of a component fabricated through the SLM process are strongly dependent upon various parameters such as laser power, scan rate and pulse duration, etc. This paper, therefore, focuses on the dimensional characteristics of melted $20{\mu}m$ Fe-Cr-Ni powder by fiber laser for the selective laser melting process. With energy density decrease, the height and depth were decreased. Although the conditions are of the same energy density, the shape is different by laser power and scan rate. The shapes at various laser parameters were divided into 3 groups based on depth over height. The smooth regular shape is obtained under the conditions of $50{\mu}m$ of powder height and $15-20{\mu}s$ of pulse duration. And the laser power influenced the variation of shape more significantly than the scan rate.

Electro-rheological(ER) fluid and valve are fabricated and evaluated experimentally in its durability to utilize the hydraulic control systems for long term operation. The two-ports ER valve used in the experiment consist of twelve parallel multi-layer electrodes and provide a restriction to the passage of ER fluid because of the viscous pressure drop and a component induced by the electric field. The durability test of ER valve are performed by measuring the surface roughness of electrodes with variation of an electric field strength and test time(1000 or 1800min.). Also, the shear stress and shear rate are measured to evaluate the durability of ER fluid as function of time. After durability test, ER shear stress increases approximately proportional to the shear rate with applied electric field intensity, In the ER valve, the center line average height roughness(Ra) of copper electrode increases about 1.56 times and ten-point median height roughness(Rz) increases about 2.2 times after the durability test. An understanding of these durability is essential to predicting the service life of ER fluid and valves.
In case of constructing submerged breakwaters for the purpose of preventing coastal erosion, the number of submerged breakwaters, as well as their asymmetry is dependent on the field conditions. The aim of the present study was to examine the 3-D hydrodynamic characteristics (3-D wave field, wave height, mean water level, and mean flow) around the asymmetric submerged breakwaters using a 3-D numerical model, LES-WASS-3D, which was validated through a comparison with existing experimental data and showed fairly nice agreement. From the numerical results, the wave height, mean water level, and mean flow are discussed in relation with the variation in the breakwater length ratio.
The numerical simulation optimized by Four Dimensional Data Assimilation (FDDA) with Quick Scatterometer (QuikSCAT) data is carried out to evaluate wind resource characteristics at various heights in the southeastern area of the Korean Peninsula, where wind farms are planned to be built on on- and off-shore as well as comparable diurnal wind variations are characterized at the surface. The temporal and spatial distributions of modeled wind speeds showed good agreement with the observations based on the temporal variation analysis. Model results indicate that the higher model is performed in resolution, the more precise results is at turbine hub height. Occasionally, wind speed variations for each numerical resolution has a different regional and seasonal variations. In the coast area, hub height wind speed of 9km-resolution is simillar to that of 3km-resolution. On the other hand, hub height wind speed of 3km-resolution is simillar to that of 1km-resolution in the Jiri mountainous area.
Positioning accuracy by the Global Positioning System (GPS) is of great concern in a variety of research tasks. It is limited due to error sources such as ionospheric effect, orbital uncertainty, antenna phase center variation, signal multipath, and tropospheric influence. In this study, the tropospheric influence, primarily due to water vapour inhomogeneity, on GPS positioning height is investigated. The data collected by the GPS receivers along with co-located surface meteorological instruments in 2003 are utilized. The GPS receivers are established as continuously operating reference stations by the Ministry of the Interior (MOI), Central Weather Bureau (CWB), and Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI) of Taiwan, and International GNSS Service (IGS). The total number of GPS receivers is 21. The surface meteorological measurements include temperature, pressure, and humidity. They are introduced to GPS data processing with 24 troposphere parameters for the station heights, which are compared with those obtained without a priori knowledge of surface meteorological measurements. The results suggest that surface meteorological measurements have an expected impact on the GPS height. The daily correction maximum with the meteorological effect may be as large as 9.3 mm for the cases of concern.

In this paper, scattering characteristics of the rectangular waveguide with elliptical conducting post and equivalent impedance of post are analyzed by mode matching method and generalized scattering method. The scattcring characteristics of rectangular waveguide are varied by the height and eccentricity of elliptical conducting post. When the height of post(2.54mm, 4mm) is small, variation in scattering characteristics appears in total simulated frequency. But as the height of post(7.62mm, 9mm) is increased, it is dominant in higher frequency. The simulated result shows good agreement with the HFSS's result. Proposed structure and analysis method are easily applied to the design and manufacture of waveguide component with elliptical conducting post.
In this study we have made a statistical investigation on the kinematic classification of coronal mass ejections (CMEs) using about 4,000 SOHO/LASCO CMEs from 1996 to 2015. For this we use their SOHO/LASCO C3 data and exclude all poor events. Using the constant acceleration model, we classify these CMEs into three groups: Acceleration group, Constant Velocity group, and Deceleration group. For classification we adopt four different methods: Acceleration method, Velocity Variation method, Height Contribution method, and Visual Inspection method. Our major results are as follows. First, the fractions of three groups depend on the method used. Second, the results of the Height Contribution method are most consistent with those of the Visual Inspection method, which is thought to be most promising. Third, the fractions of different kinematic groups for the Height contribution method are: Acceleration (35%), Constant speed (47%), and Deceleration (18%). Fourth, the fraction strongly depend on CME speed; the fraction of Acceleration decreases from 0.6 to 0.05 with CME speed; the fraction of Constant increases from 0.3 to 0.7; the fraction of Deceleration increases from 0.1 to 0.3. Finally we present dozens of CMEs with non-constant accelerations. It is found that about 40 % of these CMEs show quasi-periodic oscillations.
