Proposal of safe fire escape system for the day-care center and the kindergarten (어린이집 및 유치원의 화재 대피용 안전 경로 시스템 제안)

  • Day-care centers and kindergartens are increasing along with the damage caused by fire year after year. Infants and toddlers have a low response capability than adults to fire situations such as heavy smoke which causes less or zero visibility thus it is difficult in evacuation route during dangerous fire situations. Because of these circumstances, teachers need to build a safe pathway signage system along with the usual fire safety training needs of infants and children. In this paper, we propose a system for fire escape which marks the escape routes and are automatically implemented through the push function that smartphone recognizes during the real-time fire situation, and establish a system that verifies its authenticity.

  • Environmental pollution is defined as contamination of the earth's environment with materials which interfere with human health, quality of life, or the natural functioning of the ecosystem. Whenever a prolonged and repetitive exposure to environmental stressors exceeds the skin's normal defensive potential, there is a disturbance in the skin barrier function leading to the development of various skin diseases. Major air pollutants which affect the skin are polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, volatile organic compounds, nitrogen oxides, particulate matter, cigarette smoke, heavy metals and arsenic. Dermal uptake depends on the deposition of air pollutants on the skin surface, the composition of epidermal lipids, and the diffusion through the epidermis to the blood vessels.

  • As the distribution of vehicles and logistics increases due to the development of human civilization and the increase in population, various roads play an important role in domestic traffic and transportation. However, the recent emergence of large cities and new cities is causing traffic problems, and the increase in roads is inevitable for the smooth distribution of vehicles and logistics. In Korea, mountainous regions occupy 70% of the country, so tunnels are used to open roads. Without this, it is difficult to open the road. Currently, there are 3,720tunnels (as of December 31, 2023) installed on high-speed national highways, general national highways, and local roads nationwide, with a length of 2.499 and increasing every year. Accordingly, fire accidents in tunnels will also increase, and due to the nature of tunnel fire accidents, there is a high probability that they will escalate into large-scale disasters, resulting in casualties and property damage, as well as significant social losses due to the disruption of logistics transportation, etc. As the possibility of potential hazards is increasing, the purpose of this study is to build a safe and efficient tunnel system by optimizing maintenance and management for fire and disaster accidents in tunnels.

The Convergence correlational Study on Office Workers' Health Related Behaviors and Prevalence Rates of Metabolic Syndrome (직장인의 건강관련 행위와 대사증후군 요인별 차이 융합적 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to offer evidence that supports effective prevention strategies for people with chronic lifestyle related disease and cardiovascular disease based on understanding relations between health related behaviors and risk factors of metabolic syndrome, to suggest a basic indicator that are related to office workers' chronic lifestyle related disease and to provide basic information for educating people who are diagnosed with chronic lifestyle diseas.Research methods include SPSS / Win Program ver 20.0 utilization analyzes were, variables and relationships to analyze it to F-test verification and ANOVA test conduct was, associations verify the order $x^2$(Chi-square) validation was conducted.Participants of this study are office workers who took medical examination covered by employee health insurance athealth screening centers in the city of Seoul. All 291 participants were explained about the purpose of this study and signed consent forms. The prevalence of metabolic syndrome for 291 participants is 19.2 %. The prevalence of metabolic syndrome for a non-smoker group is 12.7 %, for a group of people who used to smoke lightly is 25.0 %, for a group of people who used to smoke heavily is 25.9 %, for light smokers group is 29.7 % and heavy smoker group is 26.7 %. As results of this convergence study exhibits, there is a strong correlation between smoking and drinking habits, and the prevalence of metabolic syndrome.

Reduction of Exhaust Emissions Using Various Injector Configurations in Low Temperature Diesel Combustion (분사기 형상 변경을 통한 저온 디젤 연소의 배기 배출물 저감)

  • Low temperature combustion is one of the advanced combustion technology in an internal combustion engine to reduce soot and nitrogen oxides simultaneously. In present experiment three kinds of injector were used to investigate the influence of injection angle and number of nozzle holes on the low temperature combustion in a heavy duty diesel engine. Low temperature diesel combustion is realized from the exhaust gas recirculation rate of 60%. Indicated mean effective pressure of low temperature combustion corresponds to the 70% level of conventional diesel engine combustion. Reduction of hydrocarbon and carbon monoxide, which are produced in low temperature combustion because of the low combustion temperature and a deficit of oxygen, was achieved by using various injector configuration. The result of experiment with $100^{\circ}$ injection angle and 8 holes showed that reductions in hydrocarbon and carbon monoxide could be achieved 58% and 27% respectively maintaining the 7% increased indicated mean effective pressure in low temperature diesel combustion compared with conventional injector.

Differences in Cigarette Use Behaviors by Age at the Time of Diagnosis With Diabetes From Young Adulthood to Adulthood: Results From the National Longitudinal Study of Adolescent Health

  • Objectives: Previous observations propose that risk-taking behaviors such as cigarette smoking are prevailing among young people with chronic conditions including diabetes. The purpose of this study was to examine whether cigarette smoking is more prevalent among diabetics than non-diabetics and whether it differs by age at the time of diagnosis with diabetes from young adulthood (YAH) to adulthood (AH). Methods: We used US panel data from the National Longitudinal Study of Adolescent Health (Add Health Study) during the years 2001 to 2002 (Wave III, YAH) and 2007 to 2008 (Wave IV, AH). Multivariate logistic regression models were applied to estimate odds ratios (ORs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) of cigarette use behaviors according to age at the time of diagnosis with diabetes, after adjusting for demographic and selected behavioral factors. Results: Of 12 175 study participants, 2.6% reported having been diagnosed with diabetes up to AH. Early-onset diabetics (age at diagnosis <13 years) were more likely than non-diabetics to report frequent cigarette smoking (smoking on ${\geq}20$ days during the previous 30 days) in YAH (OR, 3.34; 95% CI, 1.27 to 8.79). On the other hand, late-onset diabetics (age at diagnosis ${\geq}13$ years) were more likely than non-diabetics to report heavy cigarette smoking (smoking ${\geq}10$ cigarettes per day during the previous 30 days) in AH (OR, 1.54; 95% CI, 1.03 to 2.30). Conclusions: The current study indicated that diabetics are more likely than non-diabetics to smoke cigarettes frequently and heavily in YAH and AH. Effective smoking prevention and cessation programs uniquely focused on diabetics need to be designed and implemented.

A Verification Study on the Demand Performance of Fabric Duct for Localization Development of Naval Vessel (해군 수상함 국산화개발 천 덕트의 요구성능 검증연구)

  • Metal ducts for transporting air conditioning and heating inside ships have recently been replaced by cloth ducts that have the advantage of delivering air evenly to the compartments, with excellent noise reduction in major compartments, such as combat command rooms, steering rooms, and sound detector cabins. Since the performance requirements of fabric ducts for vessels are strict, and the entire length of the ducts was imported from Korea, the government wants to create economic effects through localization of fabric ducts. Air permeability and fire prevention performance tests verified the applicability to naval vessels of fabric ducts developed by Hyundai Heavy Industries and HiDact, and performance requirements presented in the POS were verified. As a result of the tests, the fabric ducts met the requirements for air permeability and fireproof performance.

A Study on ventilation characteristics in bidirectional traffic tunnels - focused on the effects of unequal vehicular speed (대면통행 터널의 환기특성 연구 - 양방향 차등차속의 영향분석을 중심으로)

  • In general, tunnel ventilation is analyzed with the assumption of equal vehicular speed for both directions in bidirectional traffic tunnels. This practice is likely to result in minimizing the piston effects and cannot take into consideration the effects of real situations, since in most cases, speeds of vehicles moving in opposite directions are not equal. Therefore, The ultimate goal of this study is to review the effects of unequal vehicular speeds on the planning of local bidirectional tunnel ventilation. To apply unequal vehicular speed for the bidirectional tunnel ventilation plan, the following requirements are necessary; (1) Adoption of strict smoke concentration standards for 'free-flow & congested' traffic conditions, (2) Selection of an appropriate ratio of heavy directional traffic volume, and (3) Selection of reasonable stepwised magnitude of speed difference. Based on the importance of research topic, this study aims at comparing the differences of the capacity of ventilation equipment for the cases with equal and unequal vehicular speeds in local bidirectional tunnels.

Comparison of Health-related Behaviors in Pregnant Women and Breast-feeding Mothers vs Non-pregnant Women (임부 및 모유수유부와 가임기 여성의 건강행태 비교)

  • Purpose: The aim of this study was to assess health-related behavior of pregnant women and breastfeeding mothers by investigating relevant risk factors. Methods: Data of 10,396 women (age 19 to 49 years) from the Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey report from 2007 to 2012 was used to analyze factors associated with health-related behavior. The subjects were divided into pregnant women; breastfeeding mothers; and non-pregnant women. Bottle feeding mothers were excluded. Results: Current smoking rate including self-reported smoker and/or positive cotinine urine test were lower for pregnant or breast-feeding group than non-pregnant group. Heavy-drinking was not different among groups while monthly drinking rate was higher in non-pregnant group. Rate of stress recognition was lower in pregnant and breast-feeding group than non-pregnant group. Rate of experience for depressive symptoms and rate of suicidal ideation were not different among groups. Conclusion: Pregnant women and breast-feeding mothers maintain a good pattern of health- related behavior compared to non-pregnant women. However, substantial proportion of pregnant women and breast-feeding mothers continue to drink and smoke. This shows the need for a plan that will modify health-related behavior.

A Study on Characteristics of Roof 'Jucsim' Structure Combustion Real Scale Fire Test on Wooden Structure Heritage Building (목조 건축 문화재 적심부 실물화재 실험을 통한 연소 특성 연구)

  • The combustion characteristics of roof 'Jucsim' structure was analysed using real scale fire test on wooden structure heritage building. the fire test model was made to consider roof timberling internal structure for a Sunglemun. Structure of test body layed lime, soil, 'Jucsin' and ceiling board excepting roof tile to find heat propagation process by setting thermocouples. The first test to find fire growth and heat propagation process in the part of ceiling. The second test organized to find the efficiency of fire proof paint between ceiling board and inside of Jucsim structure. The third test try to get the performance level of fire proof fabric with the same manner. The result showed from the test proof the heavy smoke exposure with limited effect of fire proof paint however, reliable fire resistance effect showed in case of fire proof fabric.
