Aerodynamic characteristics of NACA 4412 airfoil section with flap in extreme ground effect

  • Wing-in-Ground vehicles and aerodynamically assisted boats take advantage of increased lift and reduced drag of wing sections in the ground proximity. At relatively low speeds or heavy payloads of these craft, a flap at the wing trailing-edge can be applied to boost the aerodynamic lift. The influence of a flap on the two-dimensional NACA 4412 airfoil in viscous ground-effect flow is numerically investigated in this study. The computational method consists of a steady-state, incompressible, finite volume method utilizing the Spalart-Allmaras turbulence model. Grid generation and solution of the Navier-Stokes equations are completed using computer program Fluent. The code is validated against published experimental and numerical results of unbounded flow with a flap, as well as ground-effect motion without a flap. Aerodynamic forces are calculated, and the effects of angle of attack, Reynolds number, ground height, and flap deflection are presented for a split and plain flap. Changes in the flow introduced with the flap addition are also discussed. Overall, the use of a flap on wings with small attack angles is found to be beneficial for small flap deflections up to 5% of the chord, where the contribution of lift augmentation exceeds the drag increase, yielding an augmented lift-to-drag ratio.

  • This study is a research on Dual Bore heat pipe to investigate the ability of heat transport ability, heat resistance and difference of heat transport ability according to the type of heat pipes. As the result of this research, we got several conclusions. Each pipe of Dual Bore in one section has a similar heat transfer capability. In the range between $-20^{\circ}C$ and $60^{\circ}C$ the heat transfer capability is double than single bore which was analyzed by menas of GAP program. Heat resistance is below $0.05^{\circ}C$/W at every point, and it tells aluminum-ammonia heat pipes are proper for satellite.

  • In the Airport Railroad, the Yeongjong Bridge has a length of 4,420 m and connects Yeongjong Island with the mainland of Incheon City. The bridge is a two-level structure, consisting of a six-lane road at the upper level and a combination of a road and railroad at the lower level. The environmental conditions for the electric railway come mainly from the salt injury area and a heavy industry zone, and the maintenance cycles are determined differently depending on these conditions. This study analyzed the deterioration characteristics of long rod insulators produced with a movable ceramic bracket and polymer materials in the Yeongjong Bridge section of the Airport Railway operating in the salt injury area according to the material characteristics. Comparison of the corona measurements when the insulators were cleaned at the same time showed that the polymer insulator had a higher insulation performance than the ceramic insulator.

Effects of Planted Organ, Planting Space, and Fertilizer Level on Growth and Yield of Chinese Yam(Dioscorea opposita Thunb.) (단마의 번식기관, 재식거리 및 시비량이 생육과 수량에 미치는 영향)

  • This study was carried out to investigate the effects of the optimal fertilizer application levels and planting space at different seeding parts on Chinese yam from 1992 to 1993. The results obtained was as follows: The earlist day to emergence was 42~56 days at tuber section, 37~46 days at an aerial tuber, and 50~56 days at an exposed parent material. in turn. The days to emergence were delayed by increasing fertilizer application levels. In the growth of the under-ground parts, vine length was increased in a tuber section, aerial tuber, and an exposed parent material in turn. The tuber section by 60${\times}$20cm at planting space, 56-56-64 Kg/10a at fertilizer application levels was appeared to be good growth among underground parts. As planted close, the growth of tuber section was decreased. The totoal yield was appeared to be increased about 19% in a tuber section planted as 30${\times}$20cm compared with 60${\times}$20cm. In an exposed parent ma-terial, the planting space, 30${\times}$15cm, was increased 10% compared with 45${\times}$15cm, and in an aerial tuber, the planting space, 10${\times}$10cm, was increased about 10% comparing 30${\times}$10cm. Fertilization level(N-$P_2O_2K_2O$) in 56-56-64Kg/10a was increased 39 to 47% comparing 28-28-32 Kg/10a. And the heavy dressing and the close planting space were appeared to be produced the highest yield. In considering commercial quality, the optimal combination between seeding parts and planting space is recommended to improve commercial qualities and high yield.

Evaluation of Dynamic Lane Allocation Method at Climbing Lane Section (통행속도에 기반한 오르막차로 동적 운영방안 평가)

  • In aspects of traffic operation, a climbing lane may cause traffic congestion if the volume of traffic (v/c) grows and the ratio of heavy vehicle increases. Conversely, it would be effective, if the climbing lane is dynamically operated according to changes in traffic flow. However, there are no guideline to effectively control this climbing lane in aspects of traffic operation. In this study, we examine the necessity of flexible traffic operation criteria and its process for dynamic traffic management and also establish and analyze the effect of flexible traffic operation criteria in accordance with traffic properties using an example of climbing lane. We selected the operation criteria (critical travel speed), which decides whether to operate or close the climbing lane when the average travel speed of climbing lane is 50km/h based on VISSM (microscopic traffic simulation) analysis of Nakdong junction towards Masan with the volume of traffic (v/c), ratio of heavy vehicle as the traffic operation parameters. Based on the simulation result in accordance with the volume of traffic by the operation mode of climbing lane, the analysis on the effect of dynamic traffic management of climbing lane showed that the dynamic traffic management provides more convenience compare to the operation and close of climbing lane. Thereby, we proved that the dynamic traffic management of climbing lane is more effective.

Quilitative certificational plan of shanyao (산약(山藥)의 품질인증(品質認證) 방안(方案))

  • Now many sustitution and false articles is used in korea instead of shanyao. To use shanyao correctly, we will make a quilitative certificational plan of shanyao to investigate all of lieraturea, records and documents. And we could reach conclusions as folloews. 1) Source About a source of shanyao, though korea and china has a each other source, we think there is no problem in use of both. 2) Process In our country producing shanyao as medical use is a 'duanma', we can divide into peeling and non-peeling, drying at bulks and at briquets, steaming shanyao and fresh shanyao. Regardless of existence for peeling and steaming, a distributing shanyao is received a proper judgment. Like this result was expressed by insufficiency of standards about medical components or indicating components. We detected a reminding S02 more than 10 ppm. And this expresses that there ia a problum at a drying method. To suggest proper processing methods, a standard of quility will have to be made which the existence of peeling, difference of quility between 'changma' and 'duanma', drying method and exudation test with cutted thickness are adaptable. Besides, 'maoshanyao' and 'guangshanyao' of china is processed by various methods which decrease a medical effect such as too much soaking shanyao in water, steaming with a sulfur, too much peeling, So we must process shanyao like the next methods. (1) When harvesting, dig deeply not to cut off roots. (2) Not to peel, wash shanyao in a washing machine. (3) Dry to 50-60% degree at sunny place or drying machine. (4) To be easy for drying and exudation, cut off a thick piece with 5 mm (5) Dry perfectly at ding machine. 3) Quality3) Quality (1) Functional standards It is not Proper that 'guangshanyao' is used in china because it has a problem with quility on process of working, If they did not soak shanyao in water or heat with steam, it is the real situation that they cannot cutt off shanyao evenly. In conclusion, shanyao must be heavy, powdery with a perfectly non-peeling surface, section surface is yellow-white color, unequal and has no holes. (2) Physicochemical standards It is the real situation that we can not distinguish into quility of shanyao with established test because various workings which decrease medical effects is used. Therefore we suggest a testing standard of S02 which is used in bleaching. And testing standards relatived with decrease of medical effects must be established at once. It must that Dry on loss is less than 14.0%, content of ash is less than 6.0%. Content of acid-nonsoluble ash is less than 0.5%. Contens of heavy metal has to detect less than 30 ppm and there is no reminding agricultural medince.

User assessment about ecological stream restoration of Jeonjucheon - Focused on Environmental Characteristics and Importance-Satisfaction Analysis - (전주천 생태하천복원사업 후 이용자 평가 - 환경특성 및 중요도·만족도 분석을 중심으로 -)

  • This study is to examine the section-based stream management with environmental characteristics and user monitoring. In Jeonjucheon, upstream section located near to Jeonju Hanok village has very good water quality and natural stream landscape. In case of mid/down streams, water quality is good and heavy concentration of facility leads to high use rates of these sections. The questionnaire consists of 5 parts: user characteristics, use behavior, citizen participation, importance rank, and Importance-Satisfaction(IS). 383 out of 454 responses with listwise deletion are used for demographic analysis and IS Analysis. In terms of citizen participation through 'ecological experience activity' and 'stream stewardship activity', 'occasional participation' shows the average of 78% in all three sections. For importance rank, the results arranged in order of priority show 'water quality' > 'green corridor' > 'trail' in up/down streams and 'water quality' > 'vegetation management' > 'trail' in midstream. Therefore, 'water quality' appears to be the most important variable among 13 variables. At last, the results of ISA indicate that all 10 variables need to be improved as satisfaction is lower than importance. In addition, 'plant management' variable falls into 'concentrate here' quadrant where importance is high and satisfaction is low.

Development to Prediction Technique of Slope Hazards in Gneiss Area using Decision Tree Model (의사결정나무모형을 이용한 편마암 지역에서의 급경사지재해 예측기법 개발)

  • Based on the data obtained from field investigation and soil testing to slope hazards occurrence section and non-occurrence section in gneiss area, a prediction technique was developed by the use of a decision tree model, which is one of the statistical analysis methods. The slope hazards data of Seoul and Kyonggi Province, which were induced by heavy rainfall in 1998, were 104 sections in gneiss area. The number of data applied in developing prediction model was 61 sections except a vacant value. Among these data, the number of data occurred slope hazards was 34 sections and the number of data non-occurred slope hazards was 27 sections. The statistical analyses using the decision tree model were applied to chi-square statistics, gini index and entrophy index. As the results of analyses, a slope angle, a degree of saturation and an elevation were selected as the classification standard. The prediction model of decision tree using entrophy index is most likely accurate. The classification standard of the selected prediction model is composed of the slope angle, the degree of saturation and the elevation from the first choice stage. The classification standard values of the slope angle, the degree of saturation and elevation are $17.9^{\circ}$, 52.1% and 320 m, respectively.

Characterization of Leaching Behaviour of Recycled Concrete for Environmental Assessment (용출특성규명을 통한 재생골재 환경성 평가)

  • We conducted several different leaching experiments for assessing the potential environmental risk when utilizing recycled concrete for stabilizing bridge pier. The methods include continuous batch leaching test (DIN 38414-S4), availability test (NEN 7341), pH-stat test (CEN/TC 292/WG6) and tank diffusion test (NEN 7345). The concentration ranges vary depending on the testing method. Nearly all the trace elements were low, some elements recording under detection limit. The maximum concentrations for trace elements leached throughout the whole tests are (as mg/L); Cd (0.029), Cu (0.437), Pb (0.14), Ni, Zn (0.95), Hg (0.005). Although the testing methods we used in this study are much more rigorous than other commonly adapted method including TCLP and domestic testing method for solid waste, the trace elemental concentrations are under the criteria for hazardous material set by the TCLP and domestic method. The result seems to suggest that applying the recycled concrete on stream water will be accepatable practice as for as trace elements are concerned. However, the influence of inorganics such as Ca, Mg, Ni and $SO_4^{2-}$ on aquatic ecology should be further examined.

Microscopic Study on the Warrants for TWLTL Based on the DHV - Focusing on the Section with Overlapping Left-turn Movements - (설계시간 교통량 기반 양방향 좌회전차로의 설치기준에 관한 미시적 연구 - 좌회전 상충이 발생하는 구간을 중심으로 -)

  • This research focuses on the warrants for the Two-Way Left-Turn Lanes (TWLTL). Using a microscopic traffic simulation tool, two key parameters were investigated herewith. One is a wide range of the Design Hourly Volume (DHV), reflective of recent Korean roadway volume characteristics, that is conventionally reduced from the Average Daily Traffic (ADT). The other is driveway spacing, the length of the middle-lane section where two conflicting left-turn demands often compete for space. In addition, unlike previous researches, the way and the procedure the TWLTL operation is realized in the VISSIM S/W with its add-on application such as VISVAP is clearly stated and described in detail. According to the result of simulations for 10 volume scenarios, as expected, the higher the volume level is, the more delay the left-tuner experience. The Level Of Service (LOS) for most cases was in the range of C and D based on the non-signalized intersection LOS criteria. Furthermore, the TWLTL was found operable up to the volume level of 1,116 and 1,860 vph in heavy direction (equivalent of volume level 7) for 3-lane and 5-lane facility respectively, which covers significant portion of existing two to four-lane highway volumes in Korea.
