This article describes the determination of the dynamic stability for a heavy press, particularly considering rotational speed. A finite element model of the driving parts for the heavy press was generated. We also applied boundary conditions and dynamic loads considering the driving conditions. Modal analysis was conducted using the finite element construction model. Therefore, no resonance was identified with the comparison between the results of the modal analysis and vibration excitation frequency by the gear tooth. In addition, the stress distribution of the driving parts for press was determined using transient analysis. As compared to the yield strength of the material, the dynamic stability the heavy press was confirmed.

A vision-based blank alignment unit for a press automation line is introduced in this paper. A press is a machine tool that changes the shape of a blank by applying pressure and is widely used in industries requiring mass production. In traditional press automation lines, a mechanical centering unit, which consists of guides and ball bearings, is employed to align a blank before a robot inserts it into the press. However it can only align limited sized and shaped of blanks. Moreover it cannot be applied to a process where more than two blanks are simultaneously inserted. To overcome these problems, we developed a press centering unit by means of vision sensors for press automation lines. The specification of the vision system is determined by considering information of the blank and the required accuracy. A vision application S/W with pattern recognition, camera calibration and monitoring functions is designed to successfully detect multiple blanks. Through real experiments with an industrial robot, we validated that the proposed system was able to align various sizes and shapes of blanks, and successfully detect more than two blanks which were simultaneously inserted.
Rigid-plastic finite element analyses on the deformation of slabs at various width reductions have been performed. By using commercial finite element code, dog-bone profile, crop profile and the longitudinal width profile after edging and Horizontal rolling have been analysed. The deformation behavior of slab for the heavy edger mill has also been compared with that for the sizing press. From the deformation analyses, it was found that the sizing press-horizontal rolling method is more efficient in width reduction than that of heavy edger mill-horizontal rolling. The results of finite element analyses fer the deformation of slab were well confirmed by the actual operational data. It was found that the amount of width variation after sizing and rolling is about 5∼10mm.
This study was carried out to investigate exposure level, size distribution, and respirable mass fraction of airborne coal dust and heavy metal concentration of respirable coal dust at each work site in coal briquet factory from July 1991 to September 1991. Geometric mean of total dust concentration was 10.88mg/m$^{3}$ at storage shop, 8.22mg/m$^{3}$ at pulverize shop, and 3.79mg/m$^{3}$ at rotary press shop, respectively, but those at storage and pulverize shop were higher than TLV. Geometric mean of respirable coal dust concentration wat 1.03mg/m$^{3}$ at storage shop, 0.78mg/m$^{3}$ at pulverize shop, and 0.55mg/m$^{3}$ at rotary press shop, respectively, which were lower than TLV Aerodynamic 50% cutoff diameter of the suspended coal dust was 5$\mu$m at rotary press shop and 6.8$\mu$m at storage shop, ranged to thoracic particulate defined by ACGIH, and deposited in the region of repiratory system. The mass fraction rate of respirable dust to the total coal dust was 26.2% at rotary press shop, 18.8% at storage shop, and 13.8% at pulverize shop, respectively. Heavy metal concentrations of the respirable coal dust were 0.028mg/m$^{3}$ ib Fe, 0.0081mg/m$^{3}$ in Cu, and 0.0039mg/m$^{3}$ in Pb.
Industrialization and modern developments have led to an influx of toxic heavy metals into the aquatic environment, and the accumulation of heavy metals has serious adverse effects on humans. Among the various heavy metal treatment methods, adsorption is very useful and frequently used. Plastic materials, such as polypropylene and polyethylene, have been widely used as filter media due to their mechanical and chemical stability. However, the surface of plastic material is inert and therefore the adsorption capability of heavy metals is very limited. In this study, granular media and fiber media composed of polypropylene and polyethylene are used, and the surface modification was conducted in order to increase adsorption capability toward heavy metals. Oxygen plasma generated hydroxyl groups on the surface of the media to activate the surface, and then acrylic acid was synthesized on the surface. The grafted carboxyl group was confirmed by FT-IR and SEM. Heavy metal adsorption capability of pristine and surface modified adsorbents was also evaluated. Overall, heavy metal adsorption capability was increased by surface modification due to electrostatic interaction between the carboxyl groups and heavy metal ions. Fibrous PP/PE showed lower improvement compared to granular PP media because pore blockage occurred by the surface modification step, thereby inhibiting mass transfer.
Powdered marble wastes (PMW) generated by Utique marble cutting industries (North of Tunisia) with abundant amounts were used in this study as low-cost materials to investigate the stabilization of heavy metals (Pb, Zn, Fe) in sludge generated from a local Zn-Electroplating factory. Powdered marble wastes were evaluated by means of chemical fractions of heavy metals in sludge and concentrations of heavy metals in leachate from columns to determine their ability to stabilize heavy metals in contaminated sludge. Results indicated that chemical fractions of heavy metals in sludge were affected by application of the PMW mineral materials and pH, however, the effects varied with heavy metals. Application of the powdered marble wastes mineral materials reduced exchangeable metals in the sequence of Pb (60.5%)>Fe (40.5%)>Zn (30.1%). X-ray diffraction and hydro-geochemical transport code PHREEQC analysis were successfully carried out to get a better understanding of the mechanisms of reactive mineral phases involved in reduced exchangeable heavy metals in sludge after PMW material amendments. Therefore, metal immobilization using powdered marble wastes materials is an effective stabilization technique for industrial metallic hydroxide sludge.
Molecular dynamics simulations were used to study the removal of Cd(II) as a heavy metal from wastewater using armchair carbon nanotube, boron nitride nanotube and silicon carbide nanotubes under applied electric field. The system contains an aqueous solution of $CdCl_2$ as a heavy metal and a (7,7) nanotube as a nanostructured membrane, embedded in a silicon nitride membrane. An external electric field was applied to the considered system for the removal of $Cd^{2+}$ through nanotubes. The simulation results show that in the same conditions, considered armchair nanotubes were capable to remove $Cd^{2+}$ from wastewater with different ratios. Our results reveal that the removal of heavy metals ions through armchair carbon, boron nitride and silicon carbide nanotubes was attributed to the applied electric field. The selective removal phenomenon is explained with the calculation of potential of mean force. Therefore, the investigated systems can be recommended as a model for the water treatment.
This paper focuses on the study of the most recent ultra-filtration techniques, based on porous polymer membranes, used for the treatment of wastewater from oil, mine and hydrometallurgical industries. The performance of porous membranes used in separation and recovery of oil and heavy metals from wastewater, was evaluated by the polymer composition and by the membrane characteristics, as it follows: hydrophobicity or hydrophilicity, porosity, carrier (composition and concentration), selectivity, fouling, durability, separation efficiency and operating conditions. The oil/water efficient separation was observed on ultra-filtration (UF) techniques, with porous membranes, whereas heavy metals recovery from wastewater was observed using porous membranes with carrier. It can be concluded, that in the ultra-filtration wastewater treatments, a hybrid system, with porous polymer membranes with or without carrier, can be used for these two applications: oil/water separation and heavy metals recovery.
Purpose: The purpose of this study is to see what impact the heat and press-on-metal technique has on the marginal fit of metal ceramic crown. Materials and methods: Prior to the experiment, 4 metal master models were prepared. Each model has margin of chamfer, margin of heavy chamfer, margin of shoulder with bevel and margin of shoulder (collarless). Additionally, 10 crowns were made for each margin, total of 40 crowns. Marginal discrepancy between the master model and crown was observed at ${\times}100$ microscopic magnification in two states; in coping state and upon completion of making metal ceramic crown. Data analysis was performed using paired t-test along with one-way ANOVA and Duncan multiple comparison test. Results: After analyzing mean and standard deviation of marginal discrepancy, it was confirmed that marginal discrepancies were within the clinical permitted range for all states; in coping state and upon completion of making metal ceramic crown. For the chamfer group, a significant increase in marginal discrepancy upon completion of making metal ceramic crown was observed compared to the heavy chamfer group. Also, a marginal discrepancy of porcelain margin in shoulder group was significantly less than the marginal discrepancy of metal margin in chamfer and shoulder group. Conclusion: From the test result, one can conclude that marginal fit of metal ceramic crown built with heat and press-on-metal technique is not significantly different from marginal fit of metal ceramic crown built with traditional technique. And along with efficiency of this system, heat and press-on-metal technique is considered in clinic.
