Purpose: The purpose of this study is to provide basic information for the establishment of a Heavy Ion Therapy center by analyzing the cases of Heavy Ion Therapy devices, introducing the equipment and space composition of Heavy Ion Therapy equipments. Methods: This study is carried out by study the Heavy Ion Therapy, by figure out status of the installation of treatment centers around the world and by analyze the composition of Heavy Ion Therapy equipments and spaces through case studies. Results: The results of this study, which investigated the treatment of Heavy Ion Therapy and analyzed the plans of the five Heavy Ion Therapy centers, are summarized as follows. 1) Heavy Ion equipment requires a significant floor area. Vertical as well, many cross-sectional areas need to be secured for the construction of a delivery system. The Heavy Ion Therapy device should be built as a shielded wall because of the radiation leaking. Therefore, it is necessary to consist of a independent treatment center. 2) The size of Heavy Ion devices is getting smaller. Linac can be put into syncrotron. and the size of syncrotron, delivery system, and rotating-gantry is getting smaller. 3) Japan is often installed for treatment, and control rooms are integrated, while Europe has secured research space and each control room is separated. Implications: People are not familiar with the Heavy Ion Therapy. And the effectiveness of the treatment is not well promoted yet. Hopefully, more attention will be paid to the research involved in the Heavy Ion Therapy.

The effects of carbon-ion irradiation on cancer cell telomere function have not been comprehensively studied. In our previous report cancer cells with telomere dysfunction were more sensitive to carbon-ion irradiation, but the underlying mechanisms remained unclear. Here we found that telomerase activity was suppressed by carbon-ion irradiation via hTERT down-regulation. Inhibition of telomere activity by MST-312 further increased cancer cell radiosensitivity to carbon-ion radiation. hTERT suppression caused by either carbon-ion irradiation or MST-312 impaired mitochondrial function, as indicated by decreased membrane potential, mtDNA copy number, mitochondrial mass, total ATP levels and elevated reactive oxygen species (ROS). PGC-$1{\alpha}$ expression was repressed after carbion-ion irradiation, and hTERT inhibition by MST-312 could further exacerbate this effect. Lowering the mitochondrial ROS level by MitoTEMPO could partially counteract the induction of cellular senescence induced by carbon-ion radiation and MST-312 incubation. Taken together, the current data suggest that telomere-mitochondrion links play a role in the induction of senescence in MCF-7 cells after carbon-ion irradiation.
This study was examined adsorption ability of heavy metal Hg(I), Pb(II), and U(Vl) ion use of fruit from schizandra chinensis, The fruits of schizandra chinensis sample used breaking into fragments $50{\sim}100$ mesh. The sample solution was mixed fruits of schizandra chinensis and heavy metal ion. Each heavy metal ion of into solution was quantum analysis with ICP-AES. As the result, each condition of maxium adsorption ability of heavy metal ion was high in the range of pH 5-7, adsorption time was about 15 minutes, and the optimum temperature was $100^{\circ}C$. The heavy metal ion was increased adsorption in order of increasing concentration and in ethanol solution better than in aqueous solution.

In this paper, we treated the Ni$_3$Al based alloy samples with intense pulsed ion beams (IPIB) at the beam parameters of 250KV acceleration voltage, 100 - 200 A/cm$^2$ current density and 60 u pulse duration. We simulated the thermal-mechanical process near the surface of Ni$_3$Al based alloy with our STEIPIB codes. The surface morphology and the cross-section microstructures of samples were observed with SEM, the composition of the sample surface layer was determined by X-ray Energy Dispersive Spectrometry (XEDS) and the microstructure on the surface was observed by Transmission Electron Microscope (TEM). The results show that heating rate increases with the current density of IPIB and cooling rate reached highest value less than 150 A/cm$^2$. The irradiation of IPIB induced the segregation of Mo and adequate beam parameter can improve anti-oxidation properly of IC6 alloy. Some craters come from extraneous debris and liquid droplets, and some maybe due to the melting of the intersection region of interphase. Increasing the pulse number enlarges average size of craters and decreases number density of craters.
This study was subjected to the stabilization of heavy metals using DSp cement. Heavy metal Cr and Pb ions were mixed with cement paste and hydration behavior and leaching property by heavy metal were exami-ned. It was found that, Cr ion accelerated the early hydration of the cement and has no accelerating effect in later hydration period. However Pb ion retarded the hydration of the cement for a early hydration periods. As a result of leaching test the quantity of leachant has a very low value and the influence of leached heavy metal effected on the environments is very weak.

In order to achieve the radiotherapy more precisely using highly energetic heavy charged particles, it is important to know the distribution of the electron density in a human body, which is highly related to the range of charged particles. We can directly obtain the 2-D distribution of the electron density in a sample from a heavy ion CT image. For this purpose, we have developed a heavy ion CT system using a broad beam. The performance, especially the position resolution, of this system is estimated in this work. All experiments were carried out using the heavy ion beam from the HIMAC. We have obtained the projection data of polyethylene samples with various sizes using He 150 MeV/u, C 290 MeV/u and Ne 400 MeV/u beams. The used targets are the cylinders of 40, 60 and 80 mm in diameter, each of them has a hole of 10 mm in diameter at the center of it. The dependence of the spatial resolution on the target size and the kinds of beams will be discussed.
The ion sources for induction linac driven heavy ion fusion were fabricated and their omittance characteristics were investigated. For to kinds of ion sources, i. e. a carbon vacuum arc ion source and a cusp field rf ion source, the emittance was measured with a double slit beam scanner. The required normalized omittance of an ion source for heavy ion fusion is 10$^{-7}$ - 5$\times$10$^{-7}$$\pi$ m-rod, and the measured emittances of the ion beams from carbon vacuum arc ion source and cusp field rf ion source (Ne$^{+}$) were 2$\times$10$^{-6}$$\pi$ m-rad and 4$\times$10$^{-7}$$\pi$ m-rad, respectively.y.
The biosorption abilities of different parts of waste brown seaweeds and their derivatives to remove heavy metals (Cd, Zn, Pb, Cu, Fe, Ni, Mn) from waste were evaluated. The two parts of waste brown seaweeds (Undaria pinnatifida) were stems and sporophyls, and the brown seaweed derivatives were alginic fibers, active carbon added alginate(AC-alginate) and dealginate. The abilities of the sporophyls to adsorb the heavy metal ions were higher than those of stems, and those of alginates were slightly higher than those of dealginate in single ion solution. With decreasing the size of biosorbents, the velocity and the amount of adsorption increased. The abilities of alginate to remove the heavy metal ions increased in multi-ion solutions by adding active carbon to alginate. The selectivity of these biosorbents(alginate, AC-alginate) to lead ion was highest and to manganese ion was lowest.
For the purpose of electrolytic treatment of wastewater containing various heavy metals, the BPBE Cell of batch and continuous type was considered and experimented. Some results from this study were summarized as follows: 1. When the artificial wastewater containing 500 mg/l of the concentration of various heavy metallic ion was electrolyzed in BPBE Cell of batch type, the removal efficicency was over 95% in cadmiun (II), lead (II), chromium (Ⅵ) and over 85% in copper (II), chromium (III). 2, As granular activated carbon packed in BPBE Cell, coconut shell was superior to lignite and the removal efficiency was the highest when the activated carbon was 4/6 mesh, the voltage was 20V. 3. When the heavy metallic ion in wastewater was electrolyzed in BPBE Cell of continuous type, about 1,000mg of heavy metal per 1kg of coconut sell could be removed. 4. The treatment method of heavy metallic ion in wastewater by BPBE Cell cost less than in the former chemical treatment method and the coconut shell packed in BPBE Cell could be regenerated by chemical method.
The convergence process utilized both leaching and ion exchange techniques has been investigated for the heavy metals removal in the abandoned mine of Chungyang Province, Korea. The contaminated soil samples by heavy metals from Samkwang mine were analysed by statistical analyses. The highly contaminated soils was initially separated by the flotation process. The selectivity indices were increased with increasing flotation reagents. The selectivity of separation was then improved by the use of both leaching and ion exchange processes in order to extract the heavy metals. The results of this study showed that the higher the sulfuric acid concentration, the leaching rate of heavy metals was increased. The lecheate then was removed by the ion exchange method. The anticipating results might imply that convergence process utilized both leaching and ion exchange techniques would somehow apply for the removal of heavy metals in the abandoned mine.
