Estimate of Regional and Broad-based Sources for PM2.5 Collected in an Industrial Area of Japan

  • In order to estimate the influence of sources on $PM_{2.5}$ in the industrial area of Japan, we carried out a source analysis using chemical component data of $PM_{2.5}$. $PM_{2.5}$ samples were collected intermittently at an industrial area in Japan from July 2010 to November 2012. Water soluble ions ($Cl^-$, $NO_3{^-}$, $SO{_4}^{2-}$, $Na^+$,$NH_4{^+}$, $K^+$, $Mg^{2+}$, $Ca^{2+}$), elements (Al, K, Ca, Ti, V, Cr, Mn, Fe, Ni, Cu, Zn, As, Cd, Sb, Pb), and carbonaceous species (OC, EC) of the $PM_{2.5}$ (a total of 198 samples) were analyzed. Positive Matrix Factorization (PMF) model was applied to the data of those chemical components to identify the source of $PM_{2.5}$. At this observation site, nine factors were extracted. The major contributors of $PM_{2.5}$ were secondary sulfate 1, in which loading factors of $SO{_4}^{2-}$ and $NH_4{^+}$ were large (percentage source contribution: 20.9%), traffic, in which loading factors of OC (organic carbon) and EC (elemental carbon) were large (20.8%), secondary sulfate 2, in which loading factors of K and $SO{_4}^{2-}$ were large (8.0%), steel mills (7.8%), secondary chloride and nitrate (7.0%), soil (5.0%), heavy oil combustion (3.8%), sea salt (3.8%), and coal combustion (2.3%). The conditional probability function (CPF) and the potential source contribution function (PSCF) were carried out to examine the influence of a regional source and a broad-based source, respectively. CPF results supported local source influences such as steel mills, sea salt, traffic, coal combustion, and heavy oil combustion. PSCF results suggested that ships in the East China Sea, an industrial area of the east coastal region of China, and an active volcano in the Kyushu region of Japan were potential regional sources of secondary sulfate 1. Secondary sulfate 2 was affected by the burning of biomass fields and by coal combustion in Chinese urban areas such as Beijing, Hebei, and western Inner Mongolia. Source characterization using continuous data from one site showed a potential source representing fossil fuel combustion is affected both by regional and broad-based sources.

  • Since 1973, the competition on the development of fuel saving type internal combustion engines has become severe by the two times oil shock, and new type engines are reported every several months. Whenever these new type engines are developed, new designs are required and they will be offered in the market after performing the endurance test for a long time. But the engine market is faced with a heavy burden of finance, as the developing of a new engine requires tremendous expenses. For this reason, the computer simulation method has been lately developed to cope with it. The computer simulation method can be available to perform the reasonable research works by the theoretical analysis before carrying out practical experiments. With these processes, the developing expenses are cut down and the period of development is curtailed. The object of this study is the development of simulation computer program for the small naturally aspirated four-stroke diesel engine which is intended to product by the original design of our country. The process of simulation is firstly investigated for the ideal engine cycle, and secondly for the real engine cycle. In the ideal engine cycle, each step of the cycle is simulated by the energy balance according to the first law of thermodynamics, and then the engine performance is calculated. In the real cycle imulation program, the injection rate, the preparation rate and the combustion rate of fuel and the heat transfer through the wall of combustion chamber are considered. In this case, the injection rate is supposed as constant through the crank angle interval of injection and the combustion rate is calculated by the Whitehouse-Way equation and the heat transfer is calculated by the Annand's equation. The simulated values are compared with measured values of the YANMAR NS90(C) engine and Mitsubishi 4D30 engine, and the following conclusions are drawn. 1. The heat loss by the exhaust gas is well agree with each other in the lower load, but the measured value is greater than the calculated value in the higher load. The maximum error rate is about 15% in the full load. 2. The calculated quantity of heat transfer to the cooling water is greater than the measured value. The maximum error rate is about 11.8%. 3. The mean effective pressure, the fuel consumption, the power and the torque are well agree with each other. The maximum error is occurred in the fuel consumption, and its error rate is about 7%. From the above remarks, it may be concluded that the prediction of the engine performance is possibly by using the developed program, although the program needs to reform by adding the simulation of intake and exhaust process and assumping more reliable mechanical efficiency, volumetric efficiency, preparation rate and combustion rate.

  • 접촉분해 가솔린 제조공정의 부산물의 하나인 접촉분해경유(LCO)는 많은 유용 방향족 성분을 함유하고 있다. 그 중에서도 특히 2,6-dimethylnaphthalene (2,6-DMN)은 PEN 수지, 고분자 액정 등의 기초 원료로서 주목된다. 지금까지 중유에 혼합되어 연료로서만 사용되고 있는 LCO로부터 2,6-DMN 등과 같은 유용 방향족 탄화수소를 분리, 정제하는 것이 가능하게 되면 자원의 유용이용이라는 관점에서 그 의미는 매우 크다. 본 연구는 melt crystallization (MC)과 solute crystallization (SC)의 조합에 의해 2,6-DMN의 고순도 정제를 검토했다. MC와 SC의 원료로서는 증류-추출 조합에 의해 LCO로부터 회수한 DMN 이성체 혼합물(2,6-DMN의 농도: 10.43%)과 MC로부터 회수한 결정을 각각 사용했다. SC의 용매는 메탄올과 아세톤 혼합물(60 : 40 wt%)을 사용했다. MC-SC의 조합에 의해 99.5%의 2,6-DMN 결정을 회수할 수 있었다. MC-SC는 DMN 이성체 혼합물에 함유된 2,6-DMN의 고순도 정제에 매우 유용한 조합의 하나임을 확인했다.

건조법에 따른 커피박 고형연료의 특성 고찰 연구 (A Study on the Characteristics of Coffee Ground(CG)-RDF by Using Different Drying Method)

  • 본 연구는 커피박을 열풍건조와 유중건조 방법을 통해 고형연료로 제조하여 특성고찰을 진행하였다. 그리고 각 건조시료의 발열량 차이를 비교였다. 그리고 열중량분석기를 이용한 공업분석법이 유기성 폐기물 및 유중처리 시료에 적용 여부를 고찰하였다. 그 결과, 로 내부를 $N_2$ 분위기에서 $100^{\circ}C$까지 가열한 후 180분 동안 유지한다. 그 후 $100^{\circ}C$에서 $950^{\circ}C$까지 가열하고 $950^{\circ}C$에서 7분 동안 유지한다. 이후 $600^{\circ}C$로 냉각하고 로 내부를 $O_2$ 분위기로 전환한다. 그리고 $815^{\circ}C$에서 30분 내 외로 온도를 유지하는 것이 적당하다. 다음으로 건조 전과 후 시료의 표면을 SEM장비로 관찰하였고 EDS 장비를 통해 성분을 측정하였다. 그 결과 중금속과 같은 기타 유해성분은 측정되지 않았다. 그리고 열중량분석기를 통해 TG와 DTG 곡선을 얻었고 이를 통해 열분해와 연소반응의 차이점을 고찰하였다. 그 결과, 유중건조 된 커피박이 열풍건조 된 커피박 보다 착화 시간이 긴 것으로 보인다. 마지막으로, 열중량분석기에서 배출되는 연소가스를 포집하여 시간에 따른 CO와 $CO_2$ 농도를 GC를 이용하여 정성 및 정량분석 하였다.

화염의 총괄폭사 계수를 나타내는 급수계수 및 가중치의 계산 (Calculation of the Absorption Coefficient and Weighting Factor Expressing the Total Emissivity of Flame)

  • Using the sbsorption coefficients and the weighting factors of the gray gas, the total emissivities of C $O_{2}$- $H_{2}$O and C $O_{2}$- $H_{2}$O- transient species-soot gas mixtures can be expressed by the following equation, [a numerical formula] Where, $a_{i}$ and $K_{i}$ represent the weighting factor and the absorption coeffient of i-gray gas respectively; L is the pathlength of the gas. This equation is widely used for the analyses of the radiation heat transfer in the combustors of internal combustion engines and in the furnace of external combustion engines. In this work, a simple calculation model of the weighting factor and the absorption coeffient of the above equation was developed. The weighting factors and the absorption coefficients of combustion products were calculated by applying the model to various kinds of fossil fuels such as coal and heavy oil. Then, the computed total emissivities for each fuel and pathlength were compared with measured and calculated values which have been already published in the literatures. The followings were the results obtained through the comparisons between the calculated emissivites and the published values; the developed model for the calculations of the weighting factor and the absorption coefficient of C $O_{2}$- $H_{2}$O and C $O_{2}$- $H_{2}$O- transient species-soot gas mixtures could be applied over the wide ranges of the temperature and the pathlength; the errors between the total emissivities calculted and the values published were maximum 10%, and average 1%, respectively.

Prismatic-core advanced high temperature reactor and thermal energy storage coupled system - A preliminary design

  • This study presents an initial design for a novel system consisting in a coupled nuclear reactor and a phase change material-based thermal energy storage (TES) component, which acts as a buffer and regulator of heat transfer between the primary and secondary loops. The goal of this concept is to enhance the capacity factor of nuclear power plants (NPPs) in the case of high integration of renewable energy sources into the electric grid. Hence, this system could support in elevating the economics of NPPs in current competitive markets, especially with subsidized solar and wind energy sources, and relatively low oil and gas prices. Furthermore, utilizing a prismatic-core advanced high temperature reactor (PAHTR) cooled by a molten salt with a high melting point, have the potential in increasing the system efficiency due to its high operating temperature, and providing the baseline requirements for coupling other process heat applications. The present research studies the neutronics and thermal hydraulics (TH) of the PAHTR as well as TH calculations for the TES which consists of 300 blocks with a total heat storage capacity of 150 MWd. SERPENT Monte Carlo and MCNP5 codes carried out the neutronics analysis of the PAHTR which is sized to have a 5-year refueling cycle and rated power of 300 MWth. The PAHTR has 10 metric tons of heavy metal with 19.75 wt% enriched UO2 TRISO fuel, a hot clean excess reactivity and shutdown margin of $33.70 and -$115.68; respectively, negative temperature feedback coefficients, and an axial flux peaking factor of 1.68. Star-CCM + code predicted the correct convective heat transfer coefficient variations for both the reactor and the storage. TH analysis results show that the flow in the primary loop (in the reactor and TES) remains in the developing mixed convection regime while it reaches a fully developed flow in the secondary loop.

  • 국가의 다양한 전력생산시스템 (원자력, 석탄, 중유, LNG, 수력 발전원 등)에 대한 사회적 영향을 종합적으로 비교하기 위하여 고려된 평가항목으로서 산업적 경제성, 개인적 보건영향 (리스크), 환경영향 및 국가차원의 기여도 등이 선택되었다. 각 평가항목은 특히 발전단가, 추정사망 자수, 이산화탄소 배출량, 연료수급 안정성 등에 의하여 대표되었다. 이러한 다기준 의사결정문제의 평가방법을 개발하기 위한 예비적 연구단계로서 방사형 차트를 이용한 표현방법을 도입하였다. 이 연구에서는 이러한 사회적 영향 다이어그램을 이용하여 각 발전원의 사회적 영향의 다른 점을 쉽게 가시화 할 수 있었다. 이 연구결과에 기초하여 정성적/정량적 종합비교 방법론이 개발될 예정이다.

연소로 효율증진을 위한 on-line 세정 방법에 관한 연구 (A Study of On-line Cleaning Method for Increasing Efficiency in a Combustor)

  • 액상 중유 연료를 사용하는 고용량 증기 보일러에서 발생되어 연소기기 내부에 침적되는 슈트, 슬래그, 크랭커, 회분, 산화물의 on-line 세정을 위한 세정제 제조에 대한 연구를 수행하였다. 액상 중유 연료를 사용하는 보일러 및 가열로에 생성되는 슈트, 슬래그, 크랭커, 회분, 산화물을 제거하는 기존 기술은 보일러 및 가열로의 가동 중단 후 작업자들에 의한 기계적인 처리를 통하여 침적물을 제거하는 기술을 사용하고 있다. 기존 기술을 대치할 수 있고 보일러의 중단이 없는 상태에서 침적물을 세정할 수 있는 세정제의 최적 조성을 도출하였다. 질산암모늄과 질산마그네슘의 혼합물이 주 세정제로 도출되었으며, 각종 전이금속 화합물에 의한 영향을 영향을 연구하여, 세정에 의한 부식을 방지할 수 있으며, 연소효율의 증대를 얻을 수 있는 전이금속화합불 첨가제를 도출하였다.

고온부재의 재질열화에 따른 응력부식균열 평가에 관한 연구 (A Study on Stress Corrosion Cracking Evaluation with Material Degradation of High Temperature Components)

  • It has been reported that high temperature structural components represent the phenomenon of material degradation according to a long term service under high temperature and pressure. Especially, fossile power plant components using the fossil fuel and heavy oil are affected by dewpoint corrosion of $H_2SO_4$produced during a combustion. Therefore, the service materials subjected to high temperature and pressure may occur the stress corrosion cracking. The object of this paper is to investigate SCC susceptibility according to the material degradation of the high temperature structural materials in dewpoint corrosive environment-$H_2SO_4$.The obtained results are summarized as follows : 1) In case of secondary superheater tube, the fractograph of dimple is observed at the concentration of $H_2SO_4$-5%. When the concentration of $H_2SO_4$ is above 10%, the fracture mode is shifted from a transgranular fracture to an quasi-intergranular fracture according to the increment of concentration. 2) In the relationship between [$\Delta$DBTT]$_sp$ and SCC susceptibility, it is confirmed that the greater material degradation degree is, the higher SCC susceptibility is. In addition, it can be known that SP test is useful test method to evaluate SCC susceptibility for high temperature structural components. 3) When [$\Delta$DBTT]$_sp$ is above 17$17^{\circ}C$ the SCC fracture behavior is definitely observed with SCC susceptibility of above 0.4.

UV 분광법을 이용한 중유회 용출액으로부터 바나듐의 선택적 회수 조건 (A Selective Recovery Condition of Vanadium from Fly Ash Leach Liquor by UV-Spectrophotometry)

  • 중유 화력발전소에서 발생되는 중유회를 처리한 용출액(Fly Ash Leach Liquor; FALL)으로부터 V을 선택적으로 회수하기 위한 기초 연구를 UV 분광법을 이용해 수행하였다. Ni, Fe등이 포함된 시료를 분광법으로 V을 정량할 때, Ni, Fe등의 금속이 V 정량에 미치는 범위를 조사하였고 FALL 시료에 5.0M $NH_3$ 사용량과 pH 변화에 따른 금속의 침전율과 교반시간에 따른 금속 침전율의 최적 조건을 조사하였다. $25^{\circ}C$, pH 7.0 (5.0M $NH_3$)에서 선택적인 V의 회수 시점은 교반 시간이 1분 이내일 때로 91.5%의 회수율을 보였다.
