Estimating Cooling and Heating Degree Days for Variable Base Temperature (서울 및 부산지역의 가변 평형점온도에 따른 냉난방도일 산정법에 관한 연구)

  • In general, building energy performance is evaluated with a detailed transient building energy simulation program. However, energy evaluation tools with the bin method are still used, because of their simple and easy way to calculate building energy performance, without reducing their precision. In this research, several heating and cooling degree day methods are compared, and evaluated with their performance for variable base temperature. This analysis considered about ten years of the continuous outdoor temperature, in the Seoul and Busan areas. It is concluded that the simplified bin method is more or less acceptable for Seoul and Busan, compared with the detailed hourly bin method.

  • Numerical modeling of $CO_2$ water heater was conducted prior to optimal design of medium and large sized $CO_2$ water heater, and the experimental test with small sized $CO_2$ water heater having heat capacity of 4 kW was completed to verify the present numerical model. The present model estimated the experimental data of COP(coefficient of performance), heating capacity, and the hot water outlet temperature within the range of 3% to 8% of mean deviation. As increase of EEV(electric expansion valve) opening area, decreasing of heating capacity and the hot water outlet temperature, and increasing of COP were found in both experimental and numerical investigation.

  • In this paper, a new distributed intelligent control module based on LonWorks fieldbus for air handling unit(AHU) of heating, ventilating and air-conditioning(HVAC) is proposed to replace with a conventional direct digital control(DDC) with 32 bit microprocessor. The proposed control architecture has a excellent features such as highly compact and flexible function design, a low priced smart front-end and reliable performance with various functions. This also addresses issues in control network configuration, logical design of field devices by S/W tool, Internet networking and electronic element installation. Experimental results showing the system performance are also included in this paper.

  • The former studies for expanding a balcony space were tend to be focused on only quantitative aspects. In this study, the characteristics of balcony space on thermal on vironment in apartment house were analysed. First, the effect of the balcony space on thermal environment of living space was analysed by field measurement. Second, the temperature distribution of the bedroom and heating/cooling load with the balcony expansion were analysed by numerical simulation.

Cooling-Heating System Using Thermoelectric Module and Parallel Flow Type Pulsating Heat Pipe

  • The purpose of this study was to develop a cooler/heater using a thermoelectric module combined with a parallel flow type pulsating heat pipe with R-142b as a working fluid. The experiment was performed for 16 thermoelectric modules (6A/15V, size: $40\times40\times4mm$), varying design parameters of the heat pipe (inclination angle, working fluid charging ratio, etc.). Experimental results indicate that the optimum charging ratio and the inclination angle of the parallel flow type pulsating heat pipe were $30\%$ by volume and $30^{\circ}$, respectively. The maximum cooler/heater capacity were 479 W (COP: 0.47) and 630 W (COP: 0.9), respectively.

  • Heat loss to the ground in ondol heating system is analyzed mathematically using conformal mapping and variable transformations, Both two-and three-dimensional systems are analyzed. Heated house is assumed to be rectangular shape. Mean value of heat loss to the ground can be obtained using Figure 2. Effects of thermal parameters to heat loss are discussed. Numerical examples are also given.

  • This paper presents a method for estimating the useful output of solar space heating system and estimates their performance with variance of collector size, storage volume, collector tilt and other factors . The analysis is performed by the computer simulation and by 'running' conceptual systems against solar intensities and ambient temperature for a model year stored in a computer. System performance is analyzed on monthly and yearly basis respectively and at the same time, the economics of various systems are evaluated . And also, this paper shows how an optimized design can be selected for any locality for which solar data, economic parameters and system performance are provided. It is shown that storage volume of 75 liter per $m^2$ of solar collector lead to the best design.

  • The combustion kinetics of the imported bituminous coal was studied in the interme-diated heating rate. The activation energy and the frequency factor were obtained by experi-ment of the coal weight loss depending on the combustion time with Ih. furnace. The experi-ments were performed in the heating rates of $1,5,10^{\circ}C/sec\;or\;20^{\circ}C/sec\;at\;the\;600-900^{\circ}C$ maximum temperature, The values of the activation energy(E) which were calculated from the experimental data existed in the range from 3000cal/g-mol to 15000cal/g-mol, and those of the frequency $factor(1nk_O)$ were in the range from 4.5cm/sec to 11.5cm/sec.

  • The passive type solar energy heating system for the classroom was investigated. A classroom in a primary school located at Gangnam-ku, Seoul was taken as a model classroom the heat balance equation was established. The temperature in the classroom and solarium were calculated from the heat balance. at clear days, the temperature in the classroom and solarium were measured and compared with the calculated values. The calculated and measured values for the temperature agreed with, in general, in the increasing of $20\%$ range. It was found that the smaller size of solarium could Provide the increasing of energy efficiency for the classroom temperature.

  • The performance of air type solar heating system has been investigated for a system which has been operating continuously for two years. Design factors of a collector, such as the effective transmittance-absorptance and heat transfer factor were also determined experimentally. The flat plate collector is fabricated from steel sheet metal with two sealed glass covers. Solar heat is stored in a pebble bed of primarily granitic rock approximately 20-40 mm in diameter. The system is controled by automatically driven motors and dampers. The ratio of useful collected solar heat divided by the total solar radiation on the collector dropped was the range of 35 to 42 percent in monthly average. As it result, the air system was found fairly competitive with the water system, however, the heat supply from storage was limited because of using the pebble as the heat storage media.
