A study was amino acid contents by heating conditions of mackerel, pacific saury , yellow croaker, and brown sole investigated. In fresh fishes, total amino acid contents showed higher amount in brown sole and yellow croaker, than those of pacific saury and mackerel. The amino acid contents among the tested samples were higher Glx , leucine, lysine and arginine in order. During heating of samples the amino acid contents decreased. There appeared to be a proportional relationship of the heating temperature to decrease of amino acid. The amino acid contents of steamed samples significantly decreased than those of others. During warming and rewarming samples after storage at 4$^{\circ}C$ for 24 hours , amino acid contents slightly decreased.

The tendency of rancidity in roasted and/or reheated yellowfin sole and yellow croaker was investigated as typical white muscled fish. In fatty acid composition of the total lipid, saturated fatty acid was $27.4\%,\;33.4\%$; monoenoic acid, $36.5\%,\;38.7\%$ and polyenoic acid, $34.5\%,\;26.5\%$ in yellowfin sole and yellow croaker, respectively. The ratio of unsaturated fatty acid (UFA)/saturated fatty acid (SFA) were 2,6, 2.0 and content of total lipid was $1.4\%,\;0.8\%$, respectively. Peroxide content decreased after heating in yellowfin sole while decreased after heating and tended to increase after reheating in yellow croaker. Thiobarbituric acid value increased during roasting and heating in all the samples but decreased after reheating. Acid value increased after roasting, heating and reheating in all samples, particularly higher in yellowfin sole which have a high content of UFA. Conjugated dienes continuously increased during the repeats of heating, showing more increase in the fillet with Skin than the skinless.

The change of major organic acid contents were examined in mackerel, pacific yellow croaker and brown sole on heating conditions. The organic acid contents of mackerel were the higher that the others. The content of lactic acid was the highest in all samples commonly and that of succinic acid was second level and these organic acids were over 95% of total organic acid. The content of ${\alpha}-ketoglutaric$ acid was higher acid content was greater with higher heating temperature. Decreasing of organic acid content was higher at steamed and first heating than warmed and rewarmed.
Crystallization of SAPO-5 and SAPO-34 molecular sieves with microwave and conventional electric heating of the same gel has been investigated in an alkaline condition using N,N,N’N’tetraethylethylenediamine as a template molecule. SAPO-5 structure can be selectively prepared with microwave heating because of the fast crystallization of the technique. On the other hand, SAPO-34 is the sole product with usual conventional electric heating because SAPO-5 can be gradually transformed into SAPO-34 structure with an increase in crystallization time. This phase selectivity is probably because of the relative stability of the two phases at the reaction conditions (kinetic effect). Crystallization with microwave heating can be suggested as a phase selective synthesis method for relatively unstable materials because of fast crystallization.
In the past few years, the subject of passive heating has been the major area of our concern due to the specific climate conditions prevailing in our region. More recently, however, other important issues such as retrofitting, passive cooling, optimized integration of conservation and passive solar, and daylighting have emerged as the areas of frequent discussions. KIER, the sole R&D organization in solar energy technologies, has accomplished significant results in passive building designs and actual demonstrations of experimental passive buildings. As a result of such endeavor by KIER, the passive solar buildings have been very well received by the Korean public. The current number of passive solar buildings in Korea is well over 1,600 (as of Dec. 1986). In this paper, broad aspects of the present status of passive solar technology utilization in Korea are presented.
The changes of nucleotide and their related compounds, TMAO, TMA and total creatinine content of mackerel, pacific saury, yellow croaker and brown sole were investigated on heating conditions. The results were as follows. The content of inosine was the highest in all fish commonly, and white muscle fish showed higher than that of red muscle fish. The content of hypoxanthine showed increase by heat treatment but other compounds showed decrease. The contents of TMAO showed 31.1, 26.2, 49.4 and 58.5 mg% in each sample of raw materials, and brown sole showed the highest content than other fishes and TMAO contents showed decrease by heat treatment. The contents of TMA showed 3.7, 5.8, 22.9 and 16.9 mg% in each sample, and pacific saury showed the highest content than other fishes but TMA contents showed increase by heat treatment. The contents of total creatinine showed 341.2, 469.8, 52.3 and 87.6 mg% in each sample, and red muscle fish showed higher than that of white muscle fish and the highest content was shown in yellow croaker. All fish species showed decrease in contents of flavoring by heat treatment.
To determine changes of heme compounds on lipid oxidation during repeat heating in white muscled fish (yellowfin sole and yellow croaker), myoglobin, metmyoglobin, total iron, nonheme iron and heme iron contents were analysed. Myoglobin content was decreased in the step of repeat heating. Especially, it was decreased the most rapidly roasted at 180$^{\circ}C$ for 20 min in fillet samples. The skinless fillet roasted at the lower temperature resulted in the higher level of metmyoglobin associated with the reduced myoglobin. Regardless of roasted temperature and time, total iron content was not change in contrast of raw meat throughout processing. Nonheme iron content was increased, but heme iron content was decreased during roasted, heated and reheated.
A bacterial strain capable of producing a novel bioflocculant was isolated from a biofilm sample and identified as Bacillus megaterium G31. The highest biopolymer yield was achieved when the organism was cultivated in a medium containing acetate as the sole carbon source and ($NH_4)_2HPO_4$as the nitrogen source. In kaolin suspension, the flocculating activity was highest at 170 mg I$^{-1}$ and decreased at the higher bioflocculant concentrations. The crude bioflocculant produced by the organism was purified by ethanol precipitation and gel permeation chromatography. The FTIR spectrum of the purified bioflocculant revealed that the bioflocculant might be a heterogeneous polysaccharide composed of hexosamines and neutral sugars. The analysis of sugar components of the bioflocculant using high performance anion-exchange chromatography showed that the sugar constituents of the bioflocculant were glucosamine, fucose, galactosamine, galactose, glucose, mannose in approximate molar ratio of 4 : 1 : 6 : 3 : 8 : 19. Its flocculating activity was stimulated by various cations. The bioflocculant was thermo-stable and retained 64% of its original activity after heating at $100^{\circ}C$ for 50 min.
This experiment was conducted to investigate the effects of floor type and heating system on performance, housing environment and health status of ducks reared in three types of duck house (OD : Open floor house-Direct heating system, OF : Open floor house-Floor heating system and LD : Loft type house-Direct heating system). In OF treatment, PVC pipes were installed for heating under concrete floor and covered with litter. In LD treatment, plastic mesh was installed 50 cm above the floor so that duck's droppings can pass through it. Each treatment had four replicates of 25 birds (Cherry Valley duck breed) per pen. There were no significant differences in weight gain and feed intake of ducks for 6 weeks among all treatments. However, feed conversion ratio in LD was significantly higher (p<0.05) than that in OF. No differences were found in carcass charac- teristics, with the exception of abdominal fat weight where OF were higher than the others. Concentrations of $CO_2$ and $NH_3$ gas in OD were higher than those of OF and LD at 3, 4 and 5 weeks. Moisture content in litter of OF was lower than that of OD. In contrast, the amount of dust in the air was higher in OF than in OD. The amount of fuel used for 6 weeks in LD was lower about 21% than that in OD. Some of unusual symptoms were observed in open floor house and loft type house, such as lying, spraddle legged, twisted ankle and legs, wounded sole, or etc. No components of leukocyte and erythrocyte of blood were significantly different among all treatments. The results of this experiment showed that OF and LD systems had no positive effects on performance of meat type commercial duck. However, there were some positive effects of certain house type for the improvement of environmental condition in duck house for hygienic production. In the future, more research on the effect of various facilities and systems for duck house is needed.
