The in-situ heating transmission electron microscopy experiment allows us to observe the time- and temperature-dependent dynamic processes in nanoscale materials by examining the same specimen. The temperature, which is a major experimental parameter, must be measured accurately during in-situ heating experiments. Therefore, calibrating the thermocouple readout of the heating holder prior to the experiment is essential. The calibration can be performed using reference materials whose phase-transformation (melting, oxidation, reduction, etc.) temperatures are well-established. In this study, the calibration experiment was performed with four reference materials, i.e., pure Sn, Al-95 wt%Zn eutectic alloy, NiO/carbon nanotube composite, and pure Al, and the calibration curve and formula were obtained. The thermocouple readout of the holder used in this study provided a reliable temperature value with a relative error of <4%.
Microwave heating and drying processes have been well established in various industrial applications. Feasibilities of successful application of microwave drying to many material have been shown on the laboratory or pilot-plant scale. The microwave drying behavior of plating sludge are considered in this paper. The plating sludge containing 70%, 80% and 90% water exposed to microwave power at 2,450 MHz, 700W. An experimental microwave drying apparatus was designed and constructed to monitor weight loss during drying. By studying the drying characteristic curve, the moisture in sludge was almost classified into two categories : free moisture and intestinal moisture. And the critical moisture contents at which the drying rate ceases to be constant were from 10.1 to 10.5%. A simple drying model is proposed which may be used to describe drying behavior of plating sludge. The constant rate and the falling rate periods in microwave drying were addressed separately. From the eqation of constant rate period the drying rate constants decreased exponentially with increasing depth. Microwave heating compared with conventional heating offered higher heating rates from 9 to 16 times. Therefore, microwave drying process can be effective in removing moisture from plating sludge.
The rheological properties of soybean paste suspensions as affected by concentrations and heating were studied. All suspensions of soybean paste showed thioxotropic plastic behavior. The concentrated suspensions below the ratio of water to soybean paste, 1.25 exhibited Figure-eight phenomena which were presented by two Intersections of the up curve with the dorm curve of shear rate. The dilute suspension (soybean paste: water=1:2) showed H type hysteresis loop at low temperature. But increasing the heating temperature above $60^{\circ}C$, the hysteresis loop exhibited a Figure eight phenomenon. Consistency index of the suspensions increased remarkably by heating and showed the highest value around isoelectric point of the protein. It was suggested that the proteinous nitrogen might be the main component taking part in viscous behavior under different pH and heat treatment.
In succession to the previous paper, the present studies were directed to determine the sterilizing valves ($F_0$) of the thermal processes for the canned smoked oyster in oil and the canned boiled oyster in brine. The heat penetration tests were carried out under the condition of industrial scale at the tannery of the Taiyang Silup Company, Pusan, Korea. The test cans were placed in the middle layer of the crate in which the same canned products were loaded with, and the test cans were arranged to the front, the middle and the rear in the retort. The heat penetration was tested three times with three cans at a time for each canned product. The heat penetration curve of the canned smoked oyster in oil shelved a simple logarimicth heating curve while that of the canned boiled oyster in brine showed a broken logarithmic heating curve. The calculated $F_0$ value for canned smoked oyster in oil packed into No. 3B square can was 14.58 and the canned boiled oyster in brine packed into No.7 fruit can was 14. 78. On the basis of the heat penetration data obtained. the nomographs representing the relationship between $F_0$ values and B values (process time including $42\%$ of come-up time) for the canned oyster products were constructed.

A development of one-dimensional thermal analysis tool is performed to estimate the thickness of cork insulation for flight vehicle. In the calculation of cork temperature, the cork density model, heat of ablation and pyrolysis gas enthalpy model were applied. The calculation for the two-layer model of cork and metal was performed by the tool and compared with the experimental data. The results for the two aerodynamic heating conditions were 17 % and -12 % different from the experimental data, respectively. The effect of mechanical ablation not included in the calculation can be expected as the cause of the difference. The temperature-density curve of cork which adjusted by experimental data was also presented.

Electro-optical (EO) performances for the twisted-nematic (TN)-liquid crystal display (LCD) photoaligned with linearly polarized UV exposure on the poly[4- (fluorocinnamate) phenylmaleimide](PFCPMI) surfaces using a new photodimerization method were investigated. For a new UVLPH (UV linearly polarized during heating) photodimerization method, the photopolymer layers were exposed by linearly polarized UV dichroic polarizer without a specific UV filter during heating at $150^{\circ}C$. The Voltage-transmittance (V-T) curve without backflow bounce in the photoaligned TN-LCD with UV exposure on the PFCPMI surface for 10 min using the UVLPH photodimerization method was observed. For response time measurement, the transmittance characteristics of the photoaligned TN-LCD using the UVLPH photodimerization method on the photopolymer surface was better than that of the photoaligned TN-LCD using the UVLP photodimerization method under a room temperature.

In this study, a general strength concrete member is produced and its hydrothermal temperature is measured. It is intended to present the basic data for establishment of fire resistance performance assessment and review of safety against fire by comparing the data values of slab fire resistance experiment and the numerical analysis model. The value obtained by measuring the hydrothermal temperature of the concrete after heating the concrete designed to have general strength (30 Mpa) for 3 hours in accordance with the ISO 834 Heating Curve is compared with the value obtained from a thermal conduction analysis. As a result of the comparison, though there is a little difference, it is thought that fire behaviors can be predicted in the future if the movement of moisture and the added evaporation speed are taken into account.

The purpose of this paper is to investigate the structural behavior of fire damaged high-strength SRC columns with polypropylene fiber. When high-strength concrete is exposed to high temperature, spalling is occurred then it leads to decrease the capacity of members. Polypropylene fiber is used to reduce the spalling of the specimens and the distinction in the behavior after fire is observed. High-strength concrete specimens were exposed to high temperatures by the ISO 834 curve. Main experimental parameters were the ratio of the contained polypropylene fiver, heating time and type of loading. Reduction rate in residual strength and stiffness is observed for the mixing of PP fiber, the heating time and eccentricity of loading.

This study deals with the development of an electrofusion welding machine that is capable of joining plastic pipes using a recently developed electrofusion fitting. This fitting has built-in conductive plastics that are used to weld the joint together as a heating element. In order to explain the mechanism of the new machine, 1) the resistance characteristics of the heating element were explained, 2) the method of electric welding that uses the electrofusion fitting was described, and 3) the method of power supply based on controlling the firing angle was explained. A control system for an intelligent electrofusion welding machine was proposed. This system has the ability to recognize the diameter of an electrofusion fitting using a lookup-table based on the difference of resistance curves according to fitting types, and it is able to weld the fittings regardless of the ambient temperature. A new algorithm was developed to control the power of electric welding through the recognition of feature points from the resistance curve of the heating element. In order to evaluate the performance of the developed welding machine, tests involving the welding of 16 mm- and 20 mm-type fittings were carried out. Examining the welding results, we concluded that the proposed welding machine will offer high productivity and reliability in the field of electrofusion welding.

Variable refrigerant flow (VRF) systems have recently attracted attention in many countries due to a variety of advantages over conventional system. Especially, the water-cooled VRF heat pump, including geothermal heat pump, is a system that accurately controls the flow rate of refrigerant for the improved efficiency under part load operation. This paper describe the process of generating the cooling and heating energy performance curve coefficients and performance expressions for modeling water cooled VRF system using EnergyPlus. Through this study, the process for generating performance curves can be implemented into EnergyPlus or other comparable building energy analysis tools for the long-term evaluation of heat pump under dynamic conditions.
