This study analyzes the Mechanical properties of a medical bone plate by 3D printing. With the recent development of 3D printing technology, it is being applied in various fields. In particular, in the medical field, the use of 3D printing technology, which was limited to the existing orthosis and surgical simulation, has recently been used to replacement bones lost due to orthopedic implants using metal 3D printing. The field of application is increasing, such as replacement. However, due to the manufacturing characteristics of 3D printing, micro pores are generated inside the metal printing output, and it is necessary to reduce the pores and the loss of mechanical properties through post-processing such as heat treatment. Accordingly, the purpose of this study is to analyze the change in mechanical performance characteristics of medical metal plates manufactured by metal 3D printing under various conditions and to find efficient metal printing results. The specimen to be used in the experiment is a metal plate for trauma fixation applied to the human phalanx, and it was manufactured using the 'DMP Flex 100(3D Systems, USA), a metal 3D printer of DMLS (Direct Metal Laser Sintering) method. It was manufactured using the PBF(Powder Bed Fusion) method using Ti6Al4V ELI powder material.
Background and Objectives Although lasers have been widely applied in tissue treatment, the light penetration depth in tissues is limited by the tissue turbidity and affected by its absorption and scattering characteristics. This study investigated the effect of using an optical clearing agent (OCA) on tissue to improve the therapeutic effect of 1064 nm wavelength laser light by reducing the heat generated on the skin surface and increasing the penetration depth. Materials and Methods A diode laser (λ = 1064 nm) was applied to a porcine specimen with and without OCA to investigate the penetration depth of the laser light and temperature distribution. A numerical simulation using the finite element method was performed to investigate the temperature distribution of the specimen compared to ex-vivo experiments using a thermocouple and double-integrating sphere to measure the temperature profile and optical properties of the tissue, respectively. Results Simulation results showed a decrease in tissue surface temperature with increased penetration depth when the OCA was applied. Furthermore, both absorption and scattering coefficients decreased with the application of OCA. In ex-vivo experiments, temperatures decreased for the tissue surface and the fat layer with the OCA, but not for the muscle layer. Conclusion The use of an OCA may be helpful for reducing surface heat generation and enhance the light penetration depth in various near-infrared laser treatments.
The surf ace microstructure modification by $N^+$ ion implantation into 7050Al alloy and its low cycle fatigue behavior were investigated. Ion implantation method is to physically implant accelerated ions to the surface of a substrate. High dose of nitrogen($5{\times}10^{17}ions/cm^2$) were implanted into 7050Al alloy using current density of accellerating voltage of 100KeV. The implanted layers were characterized by Electron Probe-Micro Analysis(EPMA), Auger Elecron Spectroscopy(AES), X-Ray Diffraction(XRD), X-Ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy(XPS), and Transmission Electron Microscopy(TEM). The experimental results were compared with computer simulation data. It was shown that AlN was formed to 4500 ${\AA}$ deep. The low cycle fatigue life of the $N^4$ion modified material was prolonged by about three times the unimplanted one. The improved low cycle fatigue life was attributed to the formation of AlN and the damaged region on the surface by $N^+$ ion implantation.

The hardness of cold-forged products is in close relationship with its effective strain. This study presented the estimating method of hardness for cold-forged SKH9 products without hardness tests in view of resistance to plastic deformation using finite element code, DEFORM$^{TM}$. The flow stress equation obtained from the compression test was only used as a basic data to estimate the relationship between effective strain and hardness. In addition, this new estimating method was applied to the cold-forged product which was widely used in industrial field to show the feasibility. As a result, the predicted hardness numbers through FE simulation showed good agreement with the measured hardness numbers. It is possible to estimate the hardness not by hardness tests, but by only computer simulations for the deformed products. Also, effective strain values were possibly estimated by measuring hardness numbers, and vice versa.
TRB(Tailor Rolled Blank) is an emerging manufacturing technology by which engineers are able to change blank thickness continuously within a sheet metal. TRB door inner panels with required larger thicknesses can be used to support localized high loads. In this study, the aluminum alloy 5J32 TRB sheet is used for a door inner panel application. The TRB material properties were varied by using three heat treatment conditions. In order to predict the failure of the aluminum TRB during simulation, the forming limit diagram, which is used in sheet metal forming analysis to determine the criterion for failure, was investigated. Full-field photogrammetric measurement of the TRB deformation was performed with an ARAMIS 3D system. A FE model of the door inner panel was created using Autoform software. The material properties obtained from the tensile tests were used in the numerical model to simulate the door inner of AA 5J32 for each heat treatment condition. After finite element analysis for the evaluation of formability, a prototype front door panel was manufactured using a hydraulic press.
In this study, we quantitatively measure the ion ranges of arsenic with energies ranging from 10 KeV to 100 KeV, implanted at $3^{\circ}$, $9^{\circ}$$15^{\circ}$ the (100) plane, and the damage created during ion implantation. To obtain detailed information of ion range and damage distributions in low energy region where elastic collisions dominate the slowing down process, molecular dynamics computer simulation was performed and compared to the existing results. The effects of implant energy and degree on damage generation are present. The number of vacancy were calculated from the deposited energy using Kinchin-Pease equation. In the energy range 10 keV-100 keV, simulations show that the number of Frenckel pairs produced by As-ion bimbardment is 9 and incident angle dependence of the vacancy was the same but defects were distributed at different depth.
The present study was an attempt for systematic data conversion between FDM and FEM in order to evaluate the thermal stress distribution during quenching process. It has been generally recognized that FDM is efficient in flow and temperature analysis and FEM in that of stress. But it induced difficulty and tedious work in analysis that one uses both FDM and FEM to take their advantages because of the discrepancy of nodes between analysis tools. So we proposed field data conversion procedure from FDM to FEM in 3-dimensional space, then applied this procedure to analysis of quenching process. The simulation procedure calculates the distributions of temperature and microstructure using FDM and microstructure evolution equations of diffusion and diffusionless transformation. FEM was used for predicting the distributions of thermal stress. The present numerical code includes coupled temperaturephase transformation kinetics and temperature-microstructure dependent material properties. Calculated results were compared with previous experimental data to verify the method, which showed good agreements.
Rotary kiln in cement work has been evaluated for a wide variety of organic wastes such as wood, used tyres, plastic wastes and automobile shredder residue (ASR). However the presence of chlorine hampers the use of ASR as fuel in rotary kiln. Therefore, the behavior characteristics of chlorine components in rotary kiln should be considered to develop an effective method for ASR treatment to recovery energy resources. The aim of this paper is to present the chlorine control system applied to a cement manufacturing process for ASR use as an alternative fuel. In this work, the simulation of bypass unit and cyclones for chlorine control in rotary kiln has been studied and compared with the operation results of field test.
Drying, which is the oldest and most energy-intensive process, is an essential process for treatment of solid product. The specific procedure to design and evaluate the dryers, which are a rotary kiln dryer and a flash dryer, in case of drying the high-moisture coal was described. From determination of size to the heat and mass balance in one-dimensional model were conducted to evaluate the performance of dryers. Heat consumption, inlet gas temperature and size of the dryers were compared between a rotary kiln dryer and a flash dryer. Further considerations to evaluate the reactor elaborately were also discussed. Performance simulation of dryers along with the design procedure described here will provide helpful basis for understanding the concept of reactor design.

Radiant tube heaters are widely used for indirect heating in heat treatment processes such as continuous annealing line(CAL) or continuous galvanizing line(CGL). Main issues for radiant tube are temperature uniformity, lifetime, thermal efficiency. To achieve higher heat release, the radiant tubes are fired at a higher fuel rate and therefore local overheating occur. A numerical simulation based on a commercial code FLUENT has been performed to investigate local overheating of radiant tube heaters. To minimize local overheating, the effects of radiating fins, flue gas recirculation(FGR), two-stage combustion were investigated. More uniform temperature distribution was achieved in the longitudinal direction within the tube with radiating fins and this contributed to increase the life of radiant tubes. Furthermore, the radiant tube with radiating fins was proven to be more efficient than the one without fins. The effects of flue gas recirculation and two stage combustion on the efficiency of the radiant tube were also considered and the results were presented.
