Numerical study has been carried out to investigate heat transfer and pressure drop characteristics for streamlined shape tubes. The flow and thermal fields are investigated with varying diameter ratio of the tube ranging from 0.4 to 2.5 and Reynolds number ranging from 10,000 to 30,000. The results show that heat transfer per unit fan power is maximum at $D_2/D_1=0.8$. Furthermore, the heat transfer per unit fan power of streamlined shape tubes was compared with circular tube. The heat transfer per unit fan power of streamlined shape tube was larger than that of circular tube.

The objective of this study is to investigate the heat transfer performance of flat plate finned-tube heat exchangers with large fin pitch. In this study, twenty-two heat exchangers were tested with a variation of fin pitch, number of tube row, and tube alignment. The heat transfer coefficient decreased with a reduction of the fin pitch and an increase of the number of tube row. The staggered tube alignment improved heat transfer performance more than $10\%$ compared to the inline tube alignment. A heat transfer correlation was developed from the measured data for flat plate finned-tubes with large fin pitch. The correlation yielded good predictions of the measured data with mean deviations of $3.6\%\;and\;6.4\%$ for the inline and staggered tube alignment, respectively.
Numerical analysis has been carried out to investigate transient turbulent convective heat transfer in a vertical tube for supercritical water near the thermodynamic critical point. Heat transfer and fluid flow in the tube we strongly coupled due to the large variations of thermodynamic and transport properties such as density, specific heat, and turbulent viscosity. As pressure in the tube approaches to the critical pressure, the properties variation with time becomes larger. Heat transfer coefficient rapidly decreases along the tube near the pseudocritical temperature at the tube wall for $P_R<1.2$. Stanton number variation with time is largely reduced in the region of gas-like phase in comparison with Nusselt number. Turbulent viscosity ratio close to the wall increases near the pseudocritical temperature and it gradually decreases with time.
The row-by-row heat transfer characteristics of fin-and-tube heat exchangers having wavy fins were experimentally investigated. Three samples having different rows (one, two and three) were tested. Results show that the heat transfer coefficient is strongly dependent on the tube row. The heat transfer coefficient of the first row is larger than those of second or third rows. However, the difference decreases as the Reynolds number increases. The heat transfer coefficients of the second and the third row are approximately the same, probably due to increased mixing of bulk flow by wavy channels. Although samples have different tube row, the heat transfer coefficients of same row are approximately the same.

In this paper, evaporation heat transfer characteristics at a inner grooved tube were studied using a new natural refrigerants R-290, R-600a and HCFC refrigerant R-22. Experiments were performed in the inner tube with outside diameter of 12.70mm, having 75 fins with a fin height of 0.25mm. The following results were obtained from this research. On the evaporating heat transfer characteristics, the maximum increment of heat transfer coefficient was found in R-290. Average heat transfer coefficient was obtained the maximum value in R-290 and the minimum value in R-22. It reveals that the natural refrigerant can be used as a substitute for R-22. In the grooved inner tube, 70% of the increment of the heat transfer coefficient was obtained compared to the smooth tube. Comparing the heat transfer coefficient between experimental results and simulation data of other's, the Kandlikar's correlated equation was closely approximated to the author's experimental results in the smooth tube or grooved inner one.
This work studies for heat transfer and pressure drop performance of integral inner and outer fin tubes, designed to enhance the heat transfer performance of smooth tubes for in recipro and turbo refrigerator or high performance compact heat exchangers. Eight different inner spiral fin copper tubes with integral fin at outside surfaces were employed to improve boiling heat transfer coeffcient. For comparison, tests were made using a plain tube having the inside diameter and an outside diameter equal to that at the root of the fins for the finned tubes. Pool boiling heat transfer is investigated experimentally and theoretically on single tube arrangement. The refrigerant evaporates at a saturation state of 1 bar on the outside tube surface heated by hot water. The refrigerant R11 ($CFCl_3$) was used at a pressure of $P_s=1bar$ as a convenient test fluid with a boiling temperature of $T_s=23.6^{\circ}C$. The observed heat transfer enhancement of boiling for finned tubes significantly exceeded that to be expected on grounds of increased area. The maximum Vapor - side enhancement(i.e., vapor - side heat transfer coefficient of finned tube/vapor - side coefficient for plain tube) was found to be around 4 at 1299fpm - 30grooves tube.
This study investigates the effect of an included angle and heat flux on heat transfer of V-shape tube array having a horizontal upper tube. The test uses two stainless steel tubes with a smooth surface submerged under the water at atmospheric pressure. The angle varies from 2° to 24°. The heat transfer coefficient gets decreasing in consequence as the angle increases. The enhancement due to the lower tube is distinct as the heat flux is lower than 60 kW/㎡, where the effect of the convective flow is dominant. The present study and the published results show a similar tendency. Although the heat transfer coefficient for the present study is smaller than the symmetry case, enhanced heat transfer is observed compared to the tube array having a lower horizontal tube as the included angle is less than 10°.
The objective of this study is to investigate the pressure drop and heat transfer characteristics of the micro-fin tubes before and after the tube-expansion process. Test tubes are single-grooved micro-fin tubes made of copper with an outer diameter of 9.52 mm before the tube-expansion. The direct heating method is applied in order to make the refrigerant evaporated in the micro-fin tubes. The test ranges of the heat flux, mass flux, and the saturation pressure are 5 to 15kW/$m^2$, 100 to 200 kg/$m^2s$ and 540 to 790 kPa, respectively. The effects of the mass flux, heat flux, and the saturation pressure of the refrigerant on the pressure drop and the heat transfer are presented for the refrigerant R22. In the test conditions of this study, the heat transfer coefficient for the micro-fin tube after the tube-expansion is about 16.5% smaller than that before the tube-expansion because the fin height of micro-fin is reduced and the fin shape becomes flatter. The micro-fin tube after the tube-expansion has about 7.7% greater average pressure drop than that before the tube-expansion process.
Laminar natural convection heat transfer from a horizontal heat exchanger tube with one infinitely long vertical plate fin has been studied by a finite-difference numerical procedure. In predicting convective heat transfer from a circular tube, the thermal boundary condition at solid fluid interface is usually assumed to be isothermal. However, in reality, the thermal boundary condition is not isothermal, and the tube has the thickness and the conductivity. So the temperature at the interface is not known a priori to the calculation. This problem has the conjugate phenomena which occur between the tube conduction and external natural convection, and between the fin conduction and external natural convection. Numerical results are obtained to determine the effects of the conductivity of solid wall and the thickness of tube wall on heat transfer. It is found that the conduction causes significant influence on the natural convection heat transfer at low K and high ${\delta}$.
