The effect of tube diameter on heat and mass transfer characteristics of absorber in absorption chiller/heater using LiBr solution as a working fluid has been investigated by both of numerical and experimental study to develop a high performance and compact absorber. The diameter of the heat exchanger tube inside absorber was changed from 15.88mm to 12.70mm and 9.52mm. In numerical study a model of vapor pressure drop inside tube absorber based on a commercial 20RT absorption chiller/heater was performed. The effect of tube diameter, longitudinal pitch, vapor Reynolds number, longitudinal pitch to diameter ratio on vapor pressure drop across the heat exchanger tube banks inside absorber have been investigated and found that vapor pressure drop decreases as tube diameter increases, longitudinal pitch increases, vapor Reynolds number decreases and longitudinal pitch to diameter ratio increases. In experimental study, a system includes a tube absorber, a generator, solution distribution system and cooling water system was set up. The experimental results shown that the overall heat transfer coefficient, mass transfer coefficient. Nusselt number and Sherwood number increase as solution flow rate increases. In both of study cases, the heat and mass transfer performance increases as tube diameter decreases. Among three different tube diameters the smallest tube diameter 9.52mm has highest heat and mass transfer performance.
A numerical analysis of the heat and mass transfer and pressure drop characteristics in modular shell and tube bundle heat exchanger was carried out. Finite Concept Method based on FVM and $k-\varepsilon$ turbulent model were used for this analysis. Condensation heat transfer enhanced total heat transfer rate $4\sim8%$ higher than that of dry heat exchanger. With increasing humid air inlet velocity, temperature and relative humidity, and with decreasing heat exchanger aspect ratio and cooling water velocity, total heat and mass transfer rate could be increased. Cooling water inlet velocity had little effect on total heat transfer.

Pool boiling heat transfer characteristics of R-134a were investigated in titanium plain and low finned tubes. The diameter of test tube was 15.88 mm and the fin density was 33 fpi. Tests were conducted at saturation temperatures of $20^{\circ}C$ and $30^{\circ}C$. Heat fluxes varied from 5000 W/$m^2$ to 50,000 W/$m^2$ based on surface area of the plain tube. The pool boiling heat transfer coefficients of the titanium horizontal plain tube are lower than those of the copper plain tube by $8.2\%$. The boiling heat transfer coefficients of the low finned tube are averagely higher than those of the plain tubes by $34\%$. The average deviation of the Slipcevic correlation from the present data for the low finned tube is $20\%$.

Pool boiling performance of a metal-formed enhanced tube for a flooded refrigerant evaporator was experimentally investigated. Tests were performed for three different refrigerants(R-11, R-123, R-l34a), at two different saturation temperatures $4.4^{\circ}C \;and \;26.7^{\circ}C$ .Heat flux was varied from 10㎾/$m^2\;to\ 50㎾/$m^2$. Compared with the heat transfer coefficients of the smooth tube, the heat transfer coefficients of the enhanced tube were 6.6 times higher for R-11, 6.0 tines higher for R-123 and 3.5 times higher for R-l34a. The enhancements are comparable with those of foreign products. The heat transfer coefficients of R-l34a were higher than those of R-11 and R-123, either for the enhanced tube or for the smooth tube. At $4.4^{\circ}Csaturation temperature, however, the heat transfer coefficients of R-l34a were approximately the same as those of R-11, The effect of the saturation pressure on the boiling performance was similar to that of the smooth tube - the heat transfer coefficient increases as the saturation pressure increases.
An experimental study is conducted to investigate the effect of the tube row and fin spacing on the air-side heat transfer and friction characteristics of fin-tube heat exchangers with slit fin pattern. A total of twelve samples of fin-tube heat exchangers with the nominal tube diameter of 7 mm, transverse tube pitch of 19 mm and longitudinal tube pitch of 12.5 mm are tested. The thermal fluid measurements are made using a psychometric calorimeter. The raw data are reduced to the desired heat transfer coefficient in terms of j-factor and friction factor of f for various frontal air velocities, fin pitches and number of tube rows.

The air and refrigerant side heat transfer performances are key parameters to improve heat transfer efficiency of the heat exchanger including the fan performance. Design of the fins, treatment of the tube inside, tube diameter and tube array effect heat transfer performance of the heat exchanger. The heat exchanger is used as a condenser at cooling mode and used as an evaporator at heating mode in the heat pump system. The heat pump system uses R410A as the refrigerant. The heat exchangers are consisted with 7 mm diameter tubes with slit-type fins. The study was conducted with variation of arrangement of the refrigerant path and air flow rate and refrigerant pressure drop and heat transfer rate were measured with a code tester. The capacity of the 3 path heat exchanger is more efficient than 2 or 4 path heat exchangers in heating or cooling modes.

Enhanced tubes are used widely in the heat exchangers of absorption chillers. In regenerators, corrugated, ribbed or floral tubes are commonly used. In this study, the tube-side heat transfer coefficients and friction factors of enhanced tubes were obtained experimentally using the Wilson Plot method. The results showed that the heat transfer coefficients and the friction factors were the largest for the corrugated tube, followed by the ribbed tube. The heat transfer coefficients and friction factors of the floral tube matched those of the smooth tube within 4%, which suggests that the heat transfer and friction characteristics of the floral tube may be accounted for properly by the hydraulic diameter. The B(e+) and g(e+) were obtained from the experimental data of the corrugated and ribbed tube. The B(e+) and g(e+) of the corrugated tube matched those of the existing correlation within 20%. The present results may be used for an assessment of the heat transfer and friction characteristics of the enhanced tubes for regenerators.
An experimental study of a counterflow heat exchanger was performed. The heat exchanger had an effective heat transfer length of 1000mm and was operated in a counterflow arrangement with hot water($30{\pm}0.5^{\circ}C$, $Re_i=3500{\sim}20000$) in the inner tube(copper tube, $d_0=9.52mm$) and cold water($15{\pm}0.5^{\circ}C$, $Re_{DH}=10700{\sim}39000$) in the annulus(copper tube, $D_0=19.05mm$). Overall heat transfer coefficients were calculated and heat transfer coefficients in the inner tube and the annulus were determined using Wilson plots. The inner Nusselt number was compared with that of Gnielinski's correlation and they agreed within ${\pm}10%$ error. The trends were typical for a fluid-to-fluid heat exchanger with the overall heat transfer coefficient increasing with both inner and annulus flow rates. In the range of this experiment, Nusselt numbers for the inner tube flow were almost identical with those of the annulus flow at the same Reynolds number.

An experimental study of the absorption process of water vapor into Lithium Bromide solution was performed. For the purpose of development of high performance absorption chiller-heater utilizing Lithium Bromide solution as working fluid, the absorber is the most effective to improve the performance of an absorber because it requires the largest heat transfer area in an absorption chiller-heater system. This paper introduces bare tube and floral tube for the absorber of absorption chiller-heaters. floral tube has higher heat and mass transfer performance than bare tube conventionally used in absorbers and the it is expected to perform high heat and mass transfer. This paper will provide important information on the selection of absorber tubes in commercial absorption chiller -heaters.

The present work experimentally investigated the effects of mass flux, heat flux, inlet quality on the heat transfer performance inside the U-bend of smooth and microfin tube using R-22 and R-407C refrigerants. The parameters were 200 and 400 kg/m$^{2}$ s for mass flux, 6 and 12 kw/m$^{2}$ for heat flux, 0.1 and 0.2 for inlet quality under the pressure of 0.65 MPa. The apparatus consisted of the test section of four straight sections and three U-bends, preheater, condenser, refrigerant pump, mass flow meter etc. The average heat transfer coefficient at the downstream straight section after U-bend was affected by U-bend due to the centrifugal force and mixing of two-phase flow in the U-bend. The average heat transfer coefficient at the U-bend was 4 ~ 33 % higher than that at the straight section. The average heat transfer coefficients were affected in the order of mass flux, heat flux and inlet quality. The average heat transfer coefficients in the microfin tube were lager by 19 ~ 49% and 33 ~ 69% than that in the smooth tube at the straight section and at the U-bend separately. The average heat transfer coefficients for R-407C were larger by 33 ~ 41% and 17 ~ 29% than that for R-22 in the smooth tube and the microfin tube separately.
