서버 컴퓨터의 발열량이 변화한 경우의 데이터센터 내의 기류 및 온도분포 특성에 대한 연구 (A Study on the Distribution of Airflow and Temperature in a Data center under the Various Conditions of Heat Generation Rates of Server Computers)

  • On a large scale of data center, heat generation rates from sever computers occupy almost the entire cooling load of the building, and it is gradually increasing. The efficiency of air distribution system in data centers can be affected by heat generation rates of server computers. In this study, the distributions of airflow and temperature in a data center have been investigated by CFD simulations under various conditions of heat generation rates for server computers. From the results, air around the cold aisle which has high temperature flows tremendously into the cold aisle according to the increase of heat generation rates for server computers and the air temperature in the cold aisle becomes higher. The SHI (supply heat index) and RHI (return temperature index) show almost similar values to the cases study because the air inflow rates to server computers increase with the heat generation rates of server computers.

  • The objective of this study was to determine the effect of refrigerant heat exchanger on the performance of type II absorption heat pump performance using numerical analysis. Two heat exchange installation methods were used: solution to refrigerant and waste hot water to refrigerant. These methods were compared to the standard model of hot water flow without using refrigerant heat exchanger. When waste hot waters were bypassed to refrigerant heat exchanger, COP was not affected. However, steam mass generation rates were increased compared to those of the standard model. When solutions were bypassed to the refrigerant heat exchanger, results were different depending on the place where the solution rejoined. COP and steam mass generation rates were lower compared to those when waste heat water was passed to refrigerant heat exchanger. Thus, it is possible to obtain higher steam mass generation rates by using waste water and installing refrigerant heat exchanger.

특장차량 유압시스템 내 열적 특성 분석 (Experimental Thermal Analysis of Hydraulic System in a Special Vehicle)

  • Experimental analysis has been carried out to investigate thermal characteristics of hydraulic system in special vehicles. Hydraulic system performance is largely influenced by oil temperature, and there are considerable performance decline and malfunctions in the system for high temperature conditions caused by heavy load and continuous operation. Transient oil temperature and pressure variation are analyzed and heat generation rates in the several main system parts are compared for various flow rates. With the start of system operation oil temperature gradually increases, and viscosity deceases by about 70% as temperature increases from $20^{\circ}C$ to $80^{\circ}C$. Operation pressure in the hydraulic system decreases with oil temperature, and its variation rate becomes less steep as oil temperature increases. Heat generation rate in hydraulic pump also depends on the oil temperature, and it reaches maximum near $50^{\circ}C$. These results in this study can be applied to optimal design of efficient hydraulic system in special vehicles.

FEMLAB을 이용한 리튬이온전지의 발열특성 평가모델링 (Evaluation Modeling Heat Generation Behavior for Lithium-ion Battery Using FEMLAB)

  • 본 연구에서는 리튬이온전지의 방전특성에 따른 열발생 속도를 계산하여 전지의 특성을 평가하였다. 이를 위하여 Butler-Volmer 식을 지배방정식으로 하여, 유사 2차원 모델링을 적용하고, 편미분 연산자인 FEMLAB을 이용하여 전산모사를 수행하였다. 전류밀도를 5 $A/m^2$에서 25 $A/m^2$까지 증가시켜 계산을 수행한 결과, 전류밀도가 증가함에 따라 전극표면에서 고체상 리튬의 소모량이 증가되는 것으로 나타났다. 이로 인한 확산제한의 발생시점이 단축되었으며, 동시에 리튬이온전지의 내부 전위가 컷오프 전위에 도달하는 시점에서 열발생 속도가 급격하게 증가되는 현상을 보여주었다.

  • 궤도차량의 고무패드는 상당한 크기의 진폭과 주파수를 가지고 반복되는 동적 변형을 받고 있으므로, 이로 인하여 열발생과 더불어 상당한 내부온도의 상승을 초래한다. 이러한 열발생은 고무 재료의 점탄성 특성에 기인한 것으로, 점성효과에 의하여 변형시의 기계적 에너지의 일부가 히스테리시스 루프의 면적에 해당되는 열에너지로 변환되기 때문이다. 발생한 열은 발산조건이 충분하지 못할 경우 내부온도의 상승을 초래하며, 온도가 과다할 경우에는 고무제품의 성능이나 수명에 중대한 장애요인으로 작용하게 된다. 본 연구에서는 전차 궤도고무에 작용하는 동적 하중에 근거하여 각 부품별 열발생률을 실험을 통하여 측정하고, 이를 입력자료로 하여 궤도패드에 발생하는 온도분포를 유한요소법으로 해석하였다.

Heat Generation of Angular Contact Ball Bearings

  • The heat generations of angular contact ball bearings are studied experimentally with numerical simulations. The temperature variations of inner and outer races and the temperature increase distributions are measured by using thermocouples for the spindle rotational speeds, preloads, viscosity of oils, and lubrication methods. The measured values from experiments are used to estimate the heat generation rates. The heat generation is focused mainly on the dominant sources which are robbings due to spin and gyro-moments of bearing balls, applied load and viscous friction. Oil-jet and oil-air lubrication methods are adopted using oils with different viscosities.

  • The heat transfer characteristics of inorganic salt for high temperature heat storage material of solar power system were examined. The inorganic salts employed in this study was a mixture of $NaNO_3$ and $KNO_3$ and the operating temperature range was determined by measuring the melting temperature with DSC and by measuring the thermal decomposition temperature with TGA. The heat transfer characteristics was qualitatively obtained in terms of temperature profiles of salt in the tanks during the heat storage and heat release process as a function of steam flow rates, steam inlet temperature and the inlet position of steam. The effects of steam flow rates and inlet temperature of steam were experimentally determined and the effect of natural convection was observed due to significant density difference with temperature.

  • The heat transfer characteristics of molten salt storage system for the solar thermal power generation were investigated. Temperature profiles and the heat transfer coefficients during the storage and discharge stage were obtained with the steam as the heat transfer fluid. Two kinds of inorganic salt were employed as the storage materials and coil type of heat exchanger were installed in both tanks to provide the heat transfer surfaces during the storage and discharge stage. The effects of steam flow rates, flow direction of steam in the storage tank and the initial temperature of storage and discharge tank on the heat transfer were tested.

  • The applications of multi air-conditioners into multiplex and high-rise buildings have been increased by replacing central air-conditioning systems. The pipe length and altitude difference between the indoor and outdoor units can be increased based on installation conditions, which may increase the possibility of flash gas generation at the expansion device inlet. The flash gas generation causes rapid reduction of refrigerant flow rate passing through the expansion device, yielding lower system efficiency. Accumulator heat exchangers have been widely used in multi air-conditioners in order to minimize flash gas generation and obtain system reliability. However, the studies on the heat transfer characteristics and pressure drops of accumulator heat exchangers are very limited in open literature. In this study, the heat transfer rates and pressure drops of accumulator heat exchangers were measured with refrigerant flow rate and operating conditions by using R-22. The heat transfer rate increased with the increase of refrigerant flow rate, while subcooling decreased. The heat transfer rate enhanced with the reduction of inlet superheat and subcooling due to the increased temperature difference between the accumulator and inner heat exchanger.

습식클러치 마찰재의 체결 거동에 의한 마찰열 해석 (Frictional Heat Generation in Wet Clutch Engagement according to Groove Pattern on Clutch Pad)

  • Frictional heat greatly influences the friction behaviors during clutch engagement. Therefore, the engagement of a wet or dry clutch is frequently not under control by the frictional heat. In a wet clutch, the frictional temperature also specially needs to be controlled, and in many cases, the clutch material is selected to prevent a temperature rise from the friction between friction pad and separator. However, only the selection of the clutch material cannot ensure sufficient control of the temperature rise by the friction. The groove pattern on a friction pad is designed for more flow rates of transmission fluid between the contact gap of clutch pad and separator for the cooling effect. In this work, grove patterns are designed for more flow rates out of the contact gap between friction pad and separator plate. Selected groove design shows the improvement flow rates of transmission fluid through both inner and outer radius, where most of the transmission fluid flows through the outer radius when the clutch is engaged due to the centrifugal force in conventional wet clutch groove. Several comparisons of the amounts of frictional heat generated on clutch pads are made in order to verify the decrease of the temperature rise according to the flow rates along the groove patterns.
