This study reports pressure drops during evaporation for R-l34a, R-407C (a mixture of 23 wt% R-32, 25 wt% R-125, and 52 wt% R-l34A) and R-410A (a mixture of 50 wt% R-32 and 50 wt% R-125) in the oblong shell and Plate heat exchanger. The effects of the mass fluxes, heat fluxes, refrigerant saturation temperatures and vapor quality of refrigerants on the measured data were explored in detail. The present data showed that pressure drops of all refrigerants increase with the vapor quality. At a higher mass flux, pressure drops are higher for the entire range of the vapor quality A rise in the heat flux doesn't show significant effects on the pressure drops. Finally, at a higher saturation temperature the pressure drops are found to be lower. The pressure drops for R-407C were approximately 20% lower than those of R-l34a. R-410A had 33% lower pressure drops than R-l34a. Correlation is also provided for the measured pressure drops in terms of the friction factor.
This study presents a performance evaluation of four different land surface models (LSM) available in Weather Forecast Research (WRF). The research site was located in Haean Basin in South Korea. The basin is very unique by its geomorphology and topography. For a better representation of the complex terrain in the mesoscale model were used a high resolution topography data with a spatial resolution of 30 meters. Additionally, land-use layer was corrected by ground mapping data-sets. The observation equipments used in the study were an ultrasonic anemometer with a gas analyzer, an automatic weather station and a tethered balloon sonde. The model simulation covers a four-day period during autumn. The result shows significant impact of LSM on meteorological simulation. The best agreement between observation and simulation was found in the case of WRF with Noah LSM (WRF-Noah). The WRF with Rapid Update Cycle LSM (WRF-RUC) has a very good agreement with temperature profiles due to successfully predicted fog which appeared during measurements and affected the radiation budget at the basin floor. The WRF with Pleim and Xiu LSM (WRF-PX) and WRF with Thermal Diffusion LSM (WRF-TD) performed insufficiently for simulation of heat fluxes. Both overestimated the sensible and underestimated the latent heat fluxes during the daytime.
Surface energy and $CO_2$ fluxes have been measured over an ocean at Ieodo Ocean Research Station of KORDI since May 2003. Eddy covariance technique, which is a direct flux measurement, is used to quantitatively understand the interaction between the ocean surface and the atmospheric boundary layer. Although fluxes were continuously measured during the period from May 2003 to February 2004, the quality control of these data yielded <20% of data retrieval. The atmospheric stability did not show any distinct dirunal patterns and remained near-neutral to stable from May to June but mostly unstable during fall and winter in 2003. Sensible heat flux showed a good correlation with the difference between the sea water temperature and the air temperature. The maximum fluxes of sensible heat and latent heat were $120Wm^{-2}$ and $350Wm^{-2}$ respectively, with an averaged Bowen ratio of 0.2. The ocean around the tower absorbed $CO_2$ from the atmosphere and the uptake rates showed seasonal variations. Based our preliminary results, the daytime $CO_2$ flux was steady with an average of $-0.1 mgCO_2m^{-2}s^{-1}$ in summer and increased in winter. The nighttime $CO_2$ uptake was greater and fluctuating, reaching up to $-0.1 mgCO_2m^{-2}s^{-1}$ but these data require further examination due to weak turbulent mixing at nighttime. The magnitude of $CO_2$ flux was positively correlated with the half hourly changes in horizontal mean wind speed. Due to the paucity of quality data, further data collection is needed for more detailed analyses and interpretation.
In orderto understand the urban thermal conditions, many studies have been conducted to estimate the thermal fluxes. Currently sensible heat fluxes are estimated through various methods, but studies about comparing the differences between each method are very insufficient. Therefore, this study try to estimate the sensible heat flux of the same area by two representative estimation methods and compare their results to confirm the significance and limitation between methods. As a result of the study, the heat balance methods has a great advantage in terms of resolution but it can not consider the anthropogenic heat flux, so sensible heat flux can be underestimated in urban areas. When estimating based on physical equation, anthropogenic heat flux can be considered and the error is relatively small, it has a limitations in time and space resolutons. The two methods showed the largest difference in industiral areas where anthropogenic heat fluxes are high, with an average of 135 W/m2 and a maximum of 400 W/m2. On the other hand, the green and water have a very small difference with and average of 20 W/m2. The results between two methods show significant differences in urban areas, it is necessary to select a suitable method for each research purpose.
In order to investigate the heat transfer coefficient and pressure drop during evaporation of $CO_2$, basic experiment on the evaporation heat transfer characteristics in a horizontal smooth tube was performed. The experimental apparatus consisted of a test section, a DC power supply, a heater, a chiller, a mass flow meter, a pump and a measurement system. Experiment was conducted for various mass fluxes ($200{\sim}1200\;kg/m^2s$), heat fluxes ($10{\sim}80\;kW/m^2$) and saturation temperatures ($-5{\sim}5^{\circ}C$). With the increase of quality, the evaporation heat transfer coefficient decreased. With the increase of heat flux, the evaporation heat transfer coefficient increased. Significantly change of the heat transfer coefficient was observed at any heat flux and mass flux. With the increase of saturation temperature, the heat transfer coefficient increased. Pressure drop increased with the increase of mass flux and the decrease of saturation temperature.

To study the effect of cloud on the variabilities of turbulent fluxes over the flat terrain, we used the gradient method to analyze the dynamic and thermodynamic data from the meteorological 9-m mast (0.75, 3 and 9 m) in Villafria airport in Spain. The decrease of the surface wind speed is governed by cooling at the surface following the evening transition. The sensible heat flux and the momentum flux are increased with the dynamic factor rather than the thermodynamic factor, and the sensible heat flux was not affected by the thermal condition. The global radiation did not play an important role in the variation of the sensible heat flux in the cloudy day, but the atmospheric surface layer was characterized rather by the wind intensity.
Due to the temporal and spatial simultaneity and the high-frequency repetition, the data set retrieved from the satellite observation is considered to be the most desirable ones for the study of air-sea interaction. With rapidly developing sensor technology, satellite-retrieved data has experienced improvement in the accuracy and the number of parameters. Nevertheless, since it is still impossible to directly measure the heat fluxes between air and sea, the bulk method is an exclusive way for the evaluation of the heat fluxes at the sea surface. It was noted that the large deviation of air temperature in the winter season by the linear regression despite good correlation coefficients. We propose a new algorithm based on the Fourier series with which the SST and the air temperature. We found that the mean of air temperature is a function of the mean of SST with the monthly gradient of SST inferred from the latitudinal variation of SST and the spectral energy of air temperature is related linearly to that of SST. An algorithm to obtain the air temperature over the sea was completed with a proper analysis on the relation between of air temperature and of SST. This algorithm was examined by buoy data and therefore the air temperature over the sea can be retrieved based on just satellite data.
We present a retrieval scheme for the remote sensing of evapotranspiration (ET) over rice paddy. To perform the retrieval, high-resolution airborne imagery of multi-spectral visible and thermal infrared data, and ground-based meteorological measurements are utilized. Our ET retrieval scheme is based on the basic principal of surface energy budget, which is a result of balance in longwave and shortwave radiation, latent heat, sensible heat, and energy flux into the ground. To partition the latent and sensible heat fluxes of interest from the energy balance equation, three basic parameters are of most concern, including albedo, surface temperature, and normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI). The NDVI and albedo can be easily derived from the visible and near infrared spectral data, while the surface tem-perature can be determined through the analysis of the infrared data with the Stefan Boltzmann law. From the airborne imagery taken on 28 April 2003, we observe very good dry and wet pixels that can be easily corre-sponded to the radiation and evaporation controlled crite-ria, respectively, and, hence, for the further use in defin-ing the evaporative fraction needed to partition sensible and latent heat fluxes from the net energy flux. The de-rived ET is compared with the in situ measurements.

A numerical model which simulates the simultaneous heat and mass transfer within a vertical tube GAX absorber was developed. The ammonia vapor and the solution liquid are in counter-current flow, and the hydronic fluid flows counter to the solution liquid. The film thickness and the velocity distribution of the liquid film were obtained by matching the shear stress at the liquid-vapor interface. Two-dimensional diffusion and energy equations were solved in the liquid film to give the temperature and concentration, and a modified Colburn-Drew analysis was used for the vapor phase to determine the heat and mass fluxes at the liquid-vapor interface. The model was applied to a GAX absorber to investigate the absorption rates, temperature and concentration profiles, and mass flow rates of liquid and vapor phases. It was shown that the mass flux of water was negligible compared with that of ammonia except the region near the liquid inlet. Ammonia absorption rate increases rapidly near the liquid inlet and decrease slowly. Both the absorption rate of ammonia vapor and the desorption rate of water near the liquid inlet increase as the vapor mass flow rate increases, but the mass fluxes of the ammonia and the water near the liquid outlet decrease as the mass flow rate of the vapor increases.

Numerical prediction of nocturnal thermal high in summer of the 1995 near Taegu city located in a basin has been carried out by a non-hydrostatic numerical model over complex terrain through one-way double nesting technique in the Z following coordinate system. Under the prevailing westerly winds, vertical turbulent fluxes of momentum and heat over mountains for daytime hours are quite strong with a large magnitude of more than $120W/\textrm{m}^2$, but a small one of $5W/\textrm{m}^2$ at the surface of the basin. Convective boundary layer (CBL) is developed with a thickness of about 600m over the ground in the lee side of Mt. Hyungje, and extends to the edge of inland at the interface of land sea in the east. Sensible heat flux near the surface of the top of the mountain is $50W/\textrm{m}^2$, but its flux in the basin is almost zero. Convergence of sensible heat flux occurs from the ground surface toward the atmosphere in the lower layer, causing the layer over the mountain to be warmed up, but no convergance of the flux over the basin results from the significant mixing of air within the CBL. As horizontal transport of sensible heat flux from the top of the mountain toward over the basin results in the continuous accumulation of heat with time, enhancing air temperature at the surface of the basin, especially Taegu city to be higher than $39.3^{\circ}C$. Since latent heat fluxes are $270W/\textrm{m}^2$ near the top of the mountain and $300W/\textrm{m}^2$ along the slope of the mountain and the basin, evaporation of water vapor from the surface of the basin is much higher than one from the mountain and then, horizontal transport of latent heat flux is from the basin toward the mountain, showing relative humidity of 65 to 75% over the mountain to be much greater than 50% to 55% in the basin. At night, sensible heat fluxes have negative values of $-120W/\textrm{m}^2$ along the slope near the top of the mountain and $-50W/\textrm{m}^2$ at the surface of the basin, which indicate gain of heat from the lower atmosphere. Nighttime radiative cooling produces a shallow nocturnal surface inversion layer with a thickness of about 100m, which is much lower than common surface inversion layer, and lifts extremely heated air masses for daytime hours, namely, a warm pool of $34^{\circ}C$ to be isolated over the ground surface in the basin. As heat transfer from the warm pool in the lower atmosphere toward the ground of the basin occurs, the air near the surface of the basin does not much cool down, resulting in the persistence of high temperature at night, called nocturnal thermal high or tropical night. High relative humidity of 75% is found at the surface of the basin under the moderate wind, while slightly low relative humidity of 60% is along the eastern slope of the high mountain, due to adiabatic heating by the srong downslope wind. Air temperature near the surface of the basin with high moisture in the evening does not get lower than that during the day and the high temperature produces nocturnal warming situation.
