  • Since the operating pressure of $CO_2$ gascooler is so high compared with that of previous subcritical condenser, the optimization of gascooler is needed for improve heat exchanger performance. In this study, the performance characteristics of five kinds of heat exchangers were analyzed and compared with operating conditions. As a result, the 4-20 HX-tube shows the maximum gascooler capacity because the heat transfer is effective and pressure drop is small. Beside, the high performance of 4-20 HX-tube could be keep for wide operating condition.

  • Internal heat exchanger (IHX) apparatus using the temperature difference between high and low pressure lines in vehicle air conditioning system is a good method to enhance the cooling performance. In this study, we designed various double-pipe internal heat exchangers which have inner fins between the internal pipe and external pipe. We also measured the performance characteristic (pressure drop, cooling capacity, compressor work and coefficient of performance (COP)) of the modified internal heat exchangers that had the change of the fin height and the inside shape of the internal pipe. This experimental results indicated that the liner and serration type internal heat exchanger was the best cooling performance. In addition, the air conditioning system with the liner and serration type internal heat exchanger showed the improved performances of about 6.4% and 9.2%, respectively, for the cooling capacity and COP.

  • This paper numerically investigates to evaluate the performance according to the number of passes and the inlet/outlet diameter in a multi-pass multi-branch heat exchanger. A JF factor is used as an evaluation characteristic value to consider the heat transfer rate and the pressure drop simultaneously. It estimates the performance according to the number of passes and the inlet diameter of the reference heat exchanger. When the ratio of the inlet diameter to the header height is about 0.5, the optimum number of passes is selected along with the inlet diameter.

  • This study investigated the characteristics of heat transfer and pressure drop for cross-flow heat exchanger of premixed combustion system. The premixed burner was in front of a heat exchanger, and the number of heat exchanger modules was changed to investigate the characteristics of NOx and CO emissions with various equivalence ratios. In addition, the effectiveness, entropy generation and pressure drop were calculated by various number of heat exchanger modules and the performance of heat exchanger was analyzed by the exergy loss.

  • Open loop or ground water heat pump systems are the oldest of ground-source systems. Standing column wells can be used as highly efficient ground heat exchanger in geo-thermal heat pump systems, where hydrological and geological conditions are suitable. These systems require some careful considerations for well design, ground water flow, heat exchanger selection etc This paper describes 9round water temperature variations, performances in heat ins and cool ing mode and the results of ground water analysis.

  • An experimental study has been performed to investigate the performance and heat transfer characteristics of the heat exchanger for simultaneous cooling/heating heat pump. The heat transfer performance was measured using an air-enthalpy calorimeter and a constant temperature water bath, to obtain the performance evaluation and analysis of a fined tube heat exchanger. Six finned tube heat exchangers with louver fin were tested under a heating condition. Air-side heat transfer and friction were presented in terms of j-factor and f-factor. The heat transfer coefficient increased with decreasing the fin pitch, j-factor and f-factor on the fin pitch and the number of tube rows decreased with increasing Reair.

  • This study presented the feasibility of a coolant heat-source heat pump system as an alternative heating system for electrically driven vehicles. Heat pumps are among the most environmentally friendly and efficient heating technologies in residential buildings. In various countries, electric mobiles devices such as EV, PHEV, and FCEV, have been mainly concerned with heat pumps for new mobile markets. The experiments herein were conducted for various ambient temperatures and coolant temperatures to reflect the winter season. The system, a coolant heat-source heat pump, consisted of an inside heat exchanger, an outside heat exchanger, a motor driven compressor, an electronic expansion valve, and plumbing parts. For the experimental results, the maximum heating capacity and air discharge temperature are up to 6.3 kW and $62^{\circ}C$ respectively at an ambient temperature of $10^{\circ}C$, and coolant at $10^{\circ}C$. However, at $-20^{\circ}C$ ambient temperature and $-10^{\circ}C$ coolant temperature, conditions were insufficient to warm the cabin as the air discharge temperature was $13^{\circ}C$.

  • A ground-loop heat exchanger in a ground source heat pump system is an important unit that determines the thermal performance of a system and its initial cost. The size and performance of this heat exchanger is highly dependent on ground thermal properties. A proper design requires certain site-specific parameters, most importantly the ground effective thermal conductivity, the borehole thermal resistance and the undisturbed ground temperature. This study was performed to investigate the effect of some parameters such as borehole lengths, various grouting materials and U-tube configurations on ground effective thermal conductivity. In this study, thermal response tests were conducted using a testing device with 9-different ground-loop heat exchangers. From the experimental results, the length of ground-loop heat exchanger affects to the effective thermal conductivity. Among the various grouting materials, the bentonite-based grout with silica sand shows the largest thermal conductivity value.

  • The catalytic heat exchanger was designed which employs the regenerative preheating system of combustion air. The characteristics of the catalytic heat exchanger have been experimentally studied at the various operating parameters. The results showed that the mixture velocity did not affect significantly the performance of catalytic combustor whereas the preheating temperature of combustion air affected significantly the conversion rate. The complete conversion was achieved in the catalyzed honeycomb at a preheating temperature of $370-390^{\circ}C$, a mixture velocity of 0.53 $^{\sim}$ 0.75 m/s and an equivalence ratio of 0.19 $^{\sim}$ 0.27. The heat exchange efficiency of the catalytic heat exchanger appeared to be about 75 % when the air of room temperature was used as a working fluid. The results showed that both the heat balance of the system and the mixture conditions determine its stable catalytic combustion.
