The effect of various conditions of frosting and defrosting on the defrosting behavior of a fin-tube heat exchanger has been examined experimentally. An electric heater is used for defrosting in a fin-tube heat exchanger. There are several local maxima in the water draining rate. The amount of residual water on the heat exchanger after completion of defrosting is kept constant due to surface tension on the heat exchanger. Without considering degradation of the thermal performance due to the frosting, the defrosting efficiency is improved with increasing amount of frost irrespective of the frosting condition. The defrosting behavior is affected by frosting density as well as frost accumulation, both of which vary with the experimental operating conditions. The heat loss to the surrounding air decreases, and melting and defrosting efficiencies show high values with decreasing heat input.

An experiment was performed to describe the heat and mass transfer occurring between hot waste gas and cold water through direct contact in a direct contact heat exchanger. This model was then used to obtain an equation of overall heat transfer coefficent based on heat exchanger volume. The diffusion heat transfer rate is 2-3 times larger than the convection heat transfer rate as results of condensation of the water vapor contained in the waste gas. The boiler efficiency increases over 10%.

This paper presents the heat recovery performance of water fluidized-bed heat exchanger. Temperature and humidity ratio of waste gas are considered as important parameters in this study. Therefore, the heat recovery rate through water fluidized-bed heat exchanger for exhaust gases with various temperatures and humidity ratios can be estimated from the results of this study. Mass flow ratio (the ratio of mass flow rate of water to that of gas) and temperature of inlet water are also considered as important operating variables. Increase of heat recovery rate can be obtained through either high mass flow ratio or low temperature of inlet water with resultant low recovered temperature. The heat recovery performance with the mass flow ratio of about up to 10 has been investigated. The effect of number of stages of water fluidized-bed on the heat recovery performance has been also examined in this study.
Generally, ground-source heat pump (GSHP) systems have a higher performance than conventional air-source systems. However, the major fault of GSHP systems is their expensive boring costs. Therefore, it is important issue that to reduce initial cost and ensure stability of system through accurate prediction of the heat extraction and injection rates of the ground heat exchanger. Conventional analysis methods employed by line source theory are used to predict heat transfer rate between ground heat exchanger and soil. Shape of ground heat exchanger was simplified by equivalent diameter model, but these methods do not accurately reflect the heat transfer characteristics according to the heat exchanger geometry. In this study, a numerical model that combines a user subroutine module that calculates circulation water conditions in the ground heat exchanger and FEFLOW program which can simulate heat/moisture transfer in the soil, is developed. Heat transfer performance was evaluated for 3 different types ground heat exchanger(U-tube, Double U-tube, Coaxial).

The objective of this study was to determine the effect of refrigerant heat exchanger on the performance of type II absorption heat pump performance using numerical analysis. Two heat exchange installation methods were used: solution to refrigerant and waste hot water to refrigerant. These methods were compared to the standard model of hot water flow without using refrigerant heat exchanger. When waste hot waters were bypassed to refrigerant heat exchanger, COP was not affected. However, steam mass generation rates were increased compared to those of the standard model. When solutions were bypassed to the refrigerant heat exchanger, results were different depending on the place where the solution rejoined. COP and steam mass generation rates were lower compared to those when waste heat water was passed to refrigerant heat exchanger. Thus, it is possible to obtain higher steam mass generation rates by using waste water and installing refrigerant heat exchanger.
The objective of this report is to determine the difference of thermal response that grouted two different materials, and compare the simulation result of the length of total ground heat exchanger length that using the ground thermal conductivity. And also to know heat exchange variation of ground heat exchanger temperature that measured with various test depth. The result shows that the test hole grouted with water permeable material got better thermal response than grouted with water impermeable material. However, with consideration of ingnore for the initial 12 hour data, the test hole grouted with impermeable material has larger thermal conductivity than the other. By former thermal conductivity, simulated data by engineering program shows only 3.4% difference or less. This result shows that ground thermal conductivity is not the main variables for the design program of ground heat exchanger. At the cooling or heating mode, base on the depth of -150m, the ground heat exchanger has best temperature at $-90{\sim}-60m$ and than getting worse because of entering water heat exchanged with leaving water in the same hole.
Nowadays Plate Heat Exchanger (PHE) is widely used in different industries such as chemical, food and pharmaceutical process and refrigeration due to the efficient heat transfer performance, extreme compact design and efficient use of the construction material. In present work, PHE is applied in the fresh water generator system. Fresh water generators or desalinators are installed in ship to convert seawater to fresh water using heat from engines. PHE is an important part of a condensing or evaporating system. Among many of factors which should be concentrated on, the heat transfer and pressure drop is most important parts during sizing and rating the performance of PHE. Flow maldistribution is common but it will significantly reduce the heat exchanger performance. In this paper provide a overview of PHE cover basic of theory and conduct a numerical approach for flow distribution in plate channel. An experimental study on the performance of fresh water generator system which developed by plate heat exchanger will presented in future research. Thus, extensive experiment and analysis is required to study the thermal and fluid flow characteristics of PHE.
The SCW ground heat pump system releases ground energy from the ground water of ground heat exchanger. In other word, ground water is used to heating through releases ground energy which oneself has. But the thermal efficiency of system is going to down because repetitive process of ground water will lost ground energy in standing column well system and if heating load is continually increase, energy of ground water may be frozen or there are no benefits to use ground energy as it owes just little energy. To solve these problems, there are need to exchange water to the ground heat exchanger then the way will be used to maintain Efficiency continually as the way of to be supplied with fresh ground water into ground heat exchanger. However, this type causes waste of ground water. Therefore it is essential to discharge water to outside timely on a heat exchanger. Therefor through a study, find out the best time to discharge water to outside and exchange water to ground heat exchanger, and propose to the DB of design of the ground heat exchanger.
In conventional adsorption chamber, adsorbent is embedded in between heat exchanger fins by wire mesh. This method impedes heat and mass transfer efficiency. So in this study, to improve the heat transfer performance of heat exchanger, a fin-tube exchanger was coated with FAPO (Ferroaluminophosphate) zeolite adsorbent. The fin-tube heat exchanger has a fin pitch of 1.8 mm with a variation of adsorbent coating thickness of about 0.1 mm, 0.15 mm and 0.2 mm. By varying cooling water temperature and chilled water temperature respecively, heat transfer rate and overall heat transfer coefficient were investigated. As a result, the heat transfer rate and overall heat transfer coefficient increase with decreasing cooling water temperature and increasing chilled water temperature. Under the basic conditions, the heat transfer rate of heat exchanger with 0.2 mm coating thickness is 11% and 43% higher than that of 0.1 mm and 0.15 mm, respectively. The overall heat transfer coefficient is $189.1W/m^2{\cdot}^{\circ}C$, it is two times lager than that of 0.1 mm.
A numerical analysis of the heat and mass transfer and pressure drop characteristics in modular shell and tube bundle heat exchanger was carried out. Finite Concept Method based on FVM and $k-\varepsilon$ turbulent model were used for this analysis. Condensation heat transfer enhanced total heat transfer rate $4\sim8%$ higher than that of dry heat exchanger. With increasing humid air inlet velocity, temperature and relative humidity, and with decreasing heat exchanger aspect ratio and cooling water velocity, total heat and mass transfer rate could be increased. Cooling water inlet velocity had little effect on total heat transfer.
