  • This paper shows significant methods that improve the lifespan of LED modules as well as efficiently using an aluminum heat-sink for LED module in high power. It proposes a method that raises stability and lifespan to protect LED modules and the power unit when the LED module has been used for a long hours at high temperatures. During the research, we applied a method of pulse-width modulation (PWM) in order to prevent the phenomenon that the entire power of a system is turned off and the lifespan is reduced when the LED nodule reacts to the high temperatures. To protect the LED module and SMPS based on high efficiency, a temperature sensor is attached underneath the circuit board and the sensor measures the temperature of circuit board when the LED module is powered on. The electrical power connected to SMPS is controlled by PWM when the temperature of the LED module reaches a particular temperature.

  • COMS (Communication, Ocean and Meteorological Satellite) is a geostationary satellite and has been developing by KARI for communication, ocean and meteorological observations. It will be launched by ARIANE 5. Ka-band components are installed on South panel, where single solar array wing is mounted. Radiators, embedded heat pipes, external heat pipe, insulation blankets and heaters are utilized for the thermal control of the satellite. The Ka-band payload section is divided several areas based on unit operating temperature in order to optimize radiator area and maximize heat rejection capability. Other equipment for sensors and bus are installed on North panel. The ocean and meteorological sensors are installed on optical benches on the top floor to decouple thermally from the satellite. During the transfer orbit operation, satellite will be under severe thermal environments due to low dissipation of components, satellite attitudes and LAE(Liquid Apogee Engine) firing. This paper presents temperature and heater power prediction and validation of thermal control design during transfer orbit operation.

  • An experiment was conducted to investigate the effects of adding extra dietary salt on the blood acid-base balance, water intake and egg quality in heat stressed layers. Eighteen 44-wk-old brown commercial layers(Dekalb Warren) were randomly alloted to 0.25 and 0.75% dietary salt treatments, with nine replicates per treatment and one bird per replicate. After 3 d of preliminary period at 13~$16^{\circ}C$(normal temperature), layers were subjected to 3 d of collection period. Then the room temperature was raised to 33-$35^{\circ}C$f(hot temperature), and another 3 d of collodion period was followed. The experiment was designed as a $2\times2$ factorial and analyzed as suck The ANOVA test and comparison among treatment means were done at 5% probability levels. Results obtained were summarized as follows. L The heat stressed layers decreased feed intake, and increased water intake and excreta moisture content significantly. The addition of extradietary salt significantly increased excreta moisture content 2. The heat stressed layers showed significantly higher blood pH and lower $pCO_2$ values than the control bird However, the addition of extra salt did not change any acid-base variables. 3. The egg weight and shell quality decreased significantly, and haugh unit increased significantly by the heat stress. However, these values were not affected by the salt addition. In summary, the heat stressed layers displayed respiratory alkalosis and poor egg quality, as expected However, the addition of ex03 salt to the diet failed to alleviated the heat stress in this layer experiment.

  • Rotary kiln in cement work has been evaluated for a wide variety of organic wastes such as wood, used tyres, plastic wastes and automobile shredder residue (ASR). However the presence of chlorine hampers the use of ASR as fuel in rotary kiln. Therefore, the behavior characteristics of chlorine components in rotary kiln should be considered to develop an effective method for ASR treatment to recovery energy resources. The aim of this paper is to present the chlorine control system applied to a cement manufacturing process for ASR use as an alternative fuel. In this work, the simulation of bypass unit and cyclones for chlorine control in rotary kiln has been studied and compared with the operation results of field test.

  • The purpose of this study is to provide basic data for setting environmental design standards for domestic greenhouses. We conducted experiments on thermal environment measurement at two commercial greenhouses where hot water heating system is adopted. We analyzed heat transfer characteristics of hot water heating pipes and heat emission per unit length of heating pipes was presented. The average air temperature in two greenhouses was controlled to $16.3^{\circ}C$ and $14.6^{\circ}C$ during the experiment, respectively. The average water temperature in heating pipes was $52.3^{\circ}C$ and $45.0^{\circ}C$, respectively. Experimental results showed that natural convection heat transfer coefficient of heating pipe surface was in the range of $5.71{\sim}7.49W/m^2^{\circ}C$. When the flow rate in heating pipe was 0.5m/s or more, temperature difference between hot water and pipe surface was not large. Based on this, overall heat transfer coefficient of heating pipe was derived as form of laminar natural convection heat transfer coefficient in the horizontal cylinder. By modifying the equation of overall heat transfer coefficient, a formula for calculating the heat emission per unit length of hot water heating pipe was developed, which uses pipe size and temperature difference between hot water and indoor air as input variables. The results of this study were compared with domestic and foreign data, and it was found to be closest to JGHA data. The data of NAAS, BALLS and ASHRAE were judged to be too large. Therefore, in order to set up environmental design standards for domestic greenhouses, it is necessary to fully examine those data through further experiments.

  • This study investigates the characteristic properties of strength, flowability, durability and drying shrinkage to control strength and to reduce heat of hydration of high performance concrete using crushed stone fines. According to the experimental results, when crushed stone fines are increased every 10%, $10{\sim}15%$ of compressive strength is decreased and flowability of high performance concrete is effectively improved due to the decrease of modulus of deformation and confined water ratio. When crushed stone fines are replaced every 10%, $4^{\circ}C$ of the highest adiabatic temperature rise is decreased by reducing the unit cement. However, 5% of drying shrinkage is increased in the same condition In the meantime, durability of high performance concrete is excellent, having over 100% of good relative dynamic modulus of elasticity due to fineness of formation mused by the increase of the unit powder content and the improvement of flowability, without regard to the replacement of crushed stone fines. Therefore, It can be said that the usage of crushed stone fines can control the strength of high performance concrete by replacement and reduce heat of hydration.

  • The FPGA is used to the high speed digital satellite communication on the Digital Signal Process Unit of the next generation GEO communication satellite. The high capacity FPGA has the high power dissipation and it is difficult to satisfy the derating requirement of temperature. This matter is the major factor to degrade the equipment life and reliability. The thermal control at the equipment level has been worked through thermal conduction in the space environment. The FPGA of CCGA or BGA package type was mounted on printed circuit board, but the PCB has low efficient to the thermal control. For the FPGA heat dissipation, the heat sink was applied between part lid and housing of equipment and the performance of heat sink was confirmed via thermal vacuum test under the condition of space qualification level. The FPGA of high power dissipation has been difficult to apply for space application, but FPGA with heat sink could be used to space application with the derating temperature margin.

  • With the recent continuous expansion of subways, newly created subways tend to have lower locations and wider sections. Furthermore. since box structures and evacuating tunnels are classified into a category of mass-concrete. the thermal-stress, emitted from the inside. causes cracks to structures from the inception of constructing. In this paper, thermal-stress analysis and durability evaluation of box structure were carried out to investigate relationship between durability and parameter causing the heat of hydration. Through the examination, this paper tries to find out satisfactory solutions to regulated thermal crack and ensure the required duration period. The results of this paper showed that to control thermal crack and guarantee the required duration period it was more effective to use low-heat-portland cement and moderateheat-portland cement. As cement volume due to reduction of water-cement ratio increased, the possibility of thermal cracks occurrence increased but results of durability evaluation was different depending on evaluation method. The results showed that the appropriate water-cement ratio to control the heat of hydration and satisfy the required durability was $45\∼55\%$. And it was showed that during placement of concrete blocks ambient temperature affect the heat of hydration. thermal crack and long-term durability largely and when concrete was placed at low temperature to control thermal crack. it need to try to guarantee the required duration period. Henceforth, by studying not only internal and external conditions, such as the relative humidity and the unit weight. but also methods, to evaluate durability, in accordance with domestic situations, more reasonable design of durability should be achieved.

  • Enterotoxigenk E. coli is one of the major causative agents of the infantile diarrhea and traveler's diarrhea. The heat-labile enterotoxin is thought to be a virulence factor in the pathogenesis of the diarrhea and to be a marker for identification of the enterotoxigenic E. coli from non pathogenic E. coli. Therefore knowledge about the heat-labile enterotoxin is essential not only for understanding the pathogenesis but also for the diagnosis of the diarrhea. However the in-vitro heat-labile enterotoxin production is reported to be greatly affected by the cultural condition. In this regards, this study was designed to know the optimal conditions for the production of the heat-labile enterotoxin by assaying the permeability factor in the 18 hours culture supernatant of E. coli 08K25(B2) H9 and of E. coli 015 H11. Results obtained were summerized as follows: 1. Amounts of heat-labile enterotoxin produced were greater at initial pH 8.5 than at 7.0 of CYES-2 broth culture. However, the bacterial growth itself was more abundant at 7.0 than at 8.5. 2. Heat-labile enterotoxin per unit volume of culture supernatant was greater at shaking culture than at standing culture condition, but ratio of the enterotoxin produced over the unit mass of E. coli calculated was greater at standing culture than shaking culture condition, indicating that the greater yields of the toxin produced at shaking culture was due to increase in E. coli cell mass compared to the standing culture condition: 3. The enterotoxin produced in the lincomycin(128 microgram/ml) supplemented media was 5 or 11 times greater on the basis of enterotoxin per unit mass of E. coli, compared to the lincomycin-non-supplemented media, indicating that lincomycin itself increases the enterotoxin production. 4. Treatment of 18 hours culture of E. coli with polymyxin B(0.2 mg/ml) for 1 hour increased the yields of enterotoxin amounting to 2 or 5 times of the non-treated control cultures.
