Laser Transmission Joining (LTJ), which is a joining process of polymers by using different transmission rates of materials, was studied numerically. Unlike previous studies, energy loss by reflection at the surface was included. Besides, energy absorbed in the transparent substrate is also considered to increase the accuracy of the analytical results. Furthermore, thermal deformations of the substrates were also calculated. Temperature distribution of the substrates on the joining process could be effectively predicted by using the thermal analysis model developed, which could also analyze the rising phenomenon of the absorbing substrate by bulge effect. Calculated results show that temperature of the absorbing substrate is higher than that of transparent substrate when the laser is being radiated, and this temperature difference causes more thermal deformation in absorbing substrate, which results in the surface rise of the absorbing substrate. Comparison of calculated results with corresponding experimental results could confirm the validity of the numerical analysis model proposed.
Laser Transmission Joining (LTJ) of plastics is a process in which light of suitable wavelength is transmitted through a transparent substrate that is in contact with an absorbing one. In this paper, LTJ is investigated by preliminary experiments from the viewpoint of mechanical engineering. To understand transmitting characteristics of each polymer substrate, transmission rate, reflection rate and absorption coefficient of polymer are measured by using a laser power-meter. Characteristics of joining in the spot welding and seam welding are investigated by measuring the fracture load. Fracture load increases in accordance to the laser power and irradiation time. However, when the laser power is over 60W and irradiation time over 4seconds, fracture load decreases. This phenomenon is probably due to heat-softening of materials. Besides, cavities are generated at a joint by evaporation of water molecules, which can be suppressed by introduction of a gap between two substrates.
Building energy simulations which are mainly used in Korea have evaluated the building energy performance with the different thermal conductivity of construction materials. In order to evaluate the energy consumption accurately, the difference in thermal conductivity of the wood used in stud for wooden structure was confirmed from the each simulation. In addition, the thermal transmission of building members and the thermal bridge at the conjunction of building members according to thermal conductivity from each simulation programs were researched. The thermal conductivity of pine that has the largest variation among the energy simulations was applied to the thermal properties of studs in wooden structure. The maximum error between the maximum and minimum thermal transmission of roof, wall, and floor slab was $0.023W/m^2{\cdot}K$. Plus, that thermal bridge at Rafter junction on the roof, roof-wall joint, and floor slab-wall joint was $0.025W/m{\cdot}K$. The heat transfer image for changes in temperature and the heat exchange were analyzed by HEAT2 program. The distorted temperature lines were found around the insufficient insulated connection parts. It was predicted that the temperature at the distorted parts in the analyzed image was lower than that of the other portion of the other structures.

The thermal rating of an overhead conductor, which is the maximum allowable current, is generally calculated on the basis of heat balance equation found in IEEE P738 standard. This is given as a function of the weather conditions such as air temperature, wind speed, wind direction, and sun heat. Wind speed among such weather parameters is strongly affected on determining the line rating when it appears very low level. Therefore there may occur inaccuracy since most anemometers used in line rating monitor systems may show low resolutions and stall speed performance. In this paper, we introduce a new methodology for determining the dynamic line rating in overhead transmission lines, without using my anemometer. It was shown that wind speed can be estimated by the temperatures of 2 indirect conductors, and through experimental study, the dynamic line rating obtained by the estimated wind speed was very closely that of weather model.

The worm reducer is capable of quadrature power transmission when the shafts are disposed at right angles to each other. Since a large reduction ratio can be obtained of up to approximately 1/100 and a sliding movement is performed during operation compared with other gears, the noise and vibration are small, and there is the advantage that reverse rotation can be prevented. On the other hand, severe wear and damage are displayed on the gear and worm tooth surface, and many defects, such as intense heat generation of the reducer, occur. In the reducer case, the four-piece casing method was selected to solve the problems of heat generation, transmission efficiency, and assemblability. In this paper, we analyzed the problems of the worm and worm wheel (the core parts of a 5-Ton worm reducer) and casing through these methods and researched how to solve them.

Fitting process carried out in the automobile transmission assembly line is classified into three classes; heat fitting, press fitting, and their combined fitting. Heat fitting is a method that heats gear to a suitable range under the tempering temperature and squeezes it toward the outer diameter of shaft. Its stress depends on the yield strength of gear. Press fitting is a method that generally squeezes gear toward that of shaft at room temperature by a press. Another method heats warmly gear and safely squeezes it toward that of shaft. Warm shrink fitting process for the automobile transmission part is now gradually increased, but the parts (shaft/gear) assembled by this process produced dimensional changes in both the outer diameter and profile of the gear. So that it may cause noise and vibration between gears. In order to solve these problems, we need an analysis of warm shrink fitting process, in which design parameters are involved; contact pressure according to fitting interference between outer diameter of shaft and inner diameter of gear, fitting temperature, and profile tolerance of gear. In this study, an closed form equation to predict contact pressure and fitting load was proposed in order to develop an optimization technique of the warm shrink fitting process and verified its reliability through the experimental results measured in the field and FEM, that is, thermal-structural coupled field analysis. Actual loads measured in the field was in good agreements with the results obtained by the theoretical and finite element analysis.

Korean government plans to establish large-scale horticulture facility complexes using reclaimed land in order to improve the national competitiveness of agriculture at the government level. One of the most significant problems arising from the establishment of those large-scale horticulture facilities is that these facilities still largely depend on a fossil fuel and they require 24 h a day heating during the winter season in order to provide the necessary breeding conditions for greenhouse crops. These facilities show large energy consumption due to the use of coverings with large heat transmission coefficients such as vinyl and glass during heating in the winter season. This study investigated the applicability of waste heat from power plant for large-scale horticulture facilities by evaluating the waste heat water temperature, heat loss and energy saving performance as a function of distance between power plant and greenhouse. As a result, utilizing power plant waste heat can reduce the energy consumption by around 85% compared to the conventional gas boiler, regardless of the distance between power plant and greenhouse.
In general, heat-based treatments are preferred to form the most natural and elastic curls. Therefore, this study measured the degree of hair damage, which has an influence on hair, in relation to the heat formation of the rods used during perms using a scanning electron microscope (SEM). To examine the influence of the heat formation rods on permanent waves, this study measured the temperature transmitted from such rods. Then, a treatment was given after cutting the hair according to the round shape. According to observation with a SEM, hair breakage was found in the portion in direct contact with the heat, and the broken surface was smooth. According to the study results, it is anticipated that there should be many studies on the rods used during perms in the consideration of their structure and importance using materials that have the property of even heat transmission.
In this study, the effects of heat treatment on the nano-scale creep behavior of CoCrFeMnNi high-entropy alloy (HEA) processed by high-pressure torsion (HPT) was investigated through nanoindentation technique. Nanoindentation experiments with a Berkovich indenter were performed on HPT-processed alloy subjected to heat treatment at 450℃, revealing that the hardness of the HPT-processed alloy (HPT sample) significantly increased with the heat treatment time. The heat treatment-induced microstructural change in HPT-processed alloy was analyzed using transmission electron microscopy, which showed the nano-sized Cr-, NiMn-, and FeCo-rich phases were formed in the HPT-processed alloy subjected to 10 hours of heat treatment (HPT+10A sample). To compare the creep behavior of HPT and HPT+10A samples, constant load nanoindentation creep experiments were performed using spherical indentation indenters with two different radii. It was revealed that the predominant mechanism for creep highly depended on the applied stress level. At low stress level, both HPT and HPT+10A samples were dominated by Coble creep. At high stress level, however, the mechanism transformed to dislocation creep for HPT sample, but continued to be Coble creep for HPT+10A sample, leading to higher creep resistance in the HPT+10A sample.
In this paper, the thermal behaviors of expanded graphite(EG)/erythritol composites with different contents of EG were studied. The surface and structure properties of the composites were determined by using scanning electron microscope (SEM), transmission electron microscope (TEM), and X-ray diffraction (XRD), respectively. The thermal properties were investigated by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and thermal conductivity (TC). As experimental results, the thermal conductivity of the composites increased with increasing the EG content. However, the latent heat was somewhat decreased in the presence of EG. We could concluded that EG was highly promising materials for improving the heat transfer enhancement and energy storage capacity of phase change materials (PCMs).
