  • This study was to determine the characteristics of vapor-permeable waterproof finished fabric by the coating method. 4 different kinds of coating fabrics (A : wet, porous, polyurethane, B : dry, no porous, polyurethane, C : shape memory polyurethane and D : dry, porous polyurethane) were used, which were developed recently With this sample, moisture transport rate ($40^{\circ}C$, 45%RH & $40^{\circ}C$, 95%RH), changes of coating side's shape by washing times, water repellency rate, contracted length, qmax, heat conductivity, heat keeping rate, heat keeping rate with cotton, heat keeping rate on humidity temperature and humidity within clothing etc. were checked. And it was done in a climate chamber under $20{\pm}2^{\circ}C$, $65{\pm}5%RH$. The results of this study were as follow; In the moisture vapor transmission of sample B and C increased on high temperature and high humidity while sample A and D decreased, on this condition. Qmax rate had high relation with ground fabric's surface properties and the order was A>C>D>B. Heat conductivity had high relation with thickness and surface properties. Heat keeping rates on sweat condition showed around half percents of heat keeping rates on normal condition, but had no relation with moisture vapor transport rate. Changes of the fabric's properties by washing times were different in accordance with the construction of fabrics and the coating resin. Sample C had tow heat keeping rate on the high temperature and humidity and high heat keeping rate on the low temperature and humidity Moisture transport rate of vapor-permeable waterproof finished fabrics had high relation with the properties of ground fabrics on low humidity condition, but on the high humidity condition, it was highly related with the properties of coating resin.

  • The objective of this study was to measure and compare the radiation heat load generated through a few chosen shade-materials that would protect animals from the direct solar radiation heat in summer condition. The results obtained from this study are as follows; 1. when the materials were used in original state, the most effective material for radiation heat reduction was slate, followed by aluminum and galvanized steel successively. 2. The radiation heat load under the white top and black underside aluminum was 2.5 Cal. per hour per square cm less than that under the bare aluminum of their diurnal peak. 3. When the modified galvanized steel was used, the radiation heat load was reduced as much as 2.4 cal per hour per square cm by attaching plywood under the galvanized steel, 3.9 cal per hour per square cm by attaching plywood and coating white paint on the top of the galvanized steel. The galvanized steel covered by hay material showes similar result as that of the galvanized steel lined with plywood. 4. In case of slate, the radiation heat reduction value was increased by using bare slate, white top slate and white-top-black-underside slate in the descending order. 5. The calculated value of radiosity of inside surface of aluminum was about 20 percent of the radiation heat load, the reduced value of radiosity by coating paint was considered to be indirect indication of the effect of total radiation heat load reduction of painted surface. 6. About an hour of the time lag of radiation heat load peak on sept. 10 for slate materials should be investigated more comprehensively in future.

  • Power consumption in Southeast Asia is steadily increasing due to industrialization and the effects of hot and humid climates. However, there are not enough energy generation facilities and infrastructures to meet the growing demand because it is difficult to secure the construction and operation costs of the transmission and distribution systems. This study aims to develop a gas engine driven heat pump system that supplies heating, cooling and electric power to buildings. This system, besides its normal function to produce heat, has the capacity to generate electricity on a household level. This paper investigates similar cases overseas before developing the system. Through the investigation of commercialized similar systems, the level of technology and market trend of development system were identified. Features and specifications of commercial and industrial systems will be used for system development.

  • This article investigates the heat transfer characteristics in a RTA system for LCD manufacturing and suggests a way to evaluate the quality of a poly-Si film from the thin film optics analysis. The transient and one-dimensional conductive/radiative heat transfer equation considering wave interference effect is solved to predict surface temperatures of thin films. In dealing with radiative heat transfer, a one-dimensional two-flux method is used and the ray tracing method is also utilized to account for the wave interference effects. It is assumed that each interface is assumed diffusive but the spectral radiative properties are included. It is found that the selective heating region exists for various wavelengths and consequently may contribute to heat the poly-Si film. Using the formalism of the characteristic transmission matrix, the lumped structure reflectance, transmittance, and absorptance are calculated and they are compared with experimental data of the poly-Si film during the SPC process via the FE-RTA (Field-Enhanced RTA) technology.

  • To improve the mean-life and reliability of power cables, we have investigated the volume resistivity and thermal properties demonstrated by changing the content of carbon black, an additive of the semiconductive shield for underground power transmission. Nine specimens were made of sheet form for measurement. Volume resistivity of the specimens was measured by a volume resistivity meter after 10 minutes in a preheated oven at temperatures of both 25$\pm$1[$^{\circ}C$] and 90$\pm$ 1[$^{\circ}C$]. As well, specific heat (Cp) and thermal conductivity were measured by Nano Flash Diffusivity and DSC (Differential Scanning Calorimetry). The ranges of measurement temperature were from 0[$^{\circ}C$] to 200[$^{\circ}C$], and heating temperature was 4[$^{\circ}C$/min]. From these experimental results, volume resistivity was high according to an increase of the content of carbon black. Specific heat was decreased, while thermal conductivity was increased according to a rise in the content of carbon black. Furthermore, both specific heat and thermal conductivity were increased by heating temperature because the volume of materials was expanded according to a rise in temperature.

  • High Temperature Superconductor (HTS) transmission cable can carry more than 2 to 5 times higher electricity and also obtain substantially lower transmission losses than conventional cables. Liquid nitrogen is to be used to cool the HTS power cable and its cost is much cheaper than the liquid helium used for the cooling of metal superconducting wire. In Korea the HTS power cable development project has been ongoing since July, 2001 with the basic specifications of 22.9kV, 50MVA and told dielectric type as the first 3-year stage. The cryogenic system of the HTS cable is composed of HTS cable cryostat termination and refrigeration system. Termination of HTS cable is a connecting part between copper electrical cable at room temperature and HTS cable at liquid nitrogen temperature. In order to design the termination cryostat, it is required that the conduction heat leak and Joule heating on the current lead be reduced, the cryostat be insulated electrically and good vacuum insulation be maintained during long time operation. Heat loads calculations on the copper current lead have been performed by analytical and numerical method and the feasibility study fer the other candidate materials has also been executed.

  • Thermo-acoustic waves can be generated in a compressible fluid by rapid heating and cooling near the boundary walls. These phenomena are very important mechanism of heat transfer in the space environment in which natural convection does not exist. In this study, the generation and transmission characteristics of thermo-acoustic waves in an air filled enclosure with rapid wall heating are studied numerically. The governing equations were discretized using control volume method, and were solved using PISO algorithm and second-order upwind scheme. For the stable solution time step were considered as t=1$\times$$10^{-9}$ order, and grids are 50$\times$800. The induced thermo-acoustic wave propagates through the fluid until it decays due to viscous and heat dissipation. The wave showed sharp front shape and decreased with long tail.

  • This paper presents the basic quench protection idea for the HTS(High-Temperature Superconducting) cable. In Korea power system, the transfer capability of transmission line is limited by the voltage stability, HTS cable could be one of the countermeasure to enhance the transfer limit with its higher current capacity and lower impedance[1]. However, the quench characteristic makes not only HTS cable to loss its superconductivity, but also change the impedance of the transmission line and power system operating condition dramatically. This pheonominum threats HTS cable safety as well as power system security, therefore a proper protection scheme and security control counterplan have to be established before HTS cable implementation. In this paper, the quench characteristics of HTS cable for the fault current based on heat balance equation was established and a proper protection method regarding conventional protection system was suggested.
