Heat Characteristic Analysis of Stacking Type HTS Current Lead (적층형 고온초전도 전류도입선의 열 특성 해석)

  • Current lead is one of the first proposed devices for the application of High Temperature-Superconductor(HTSC). The current lead provides high current for electrical machine using superconductor from room temperature. Its characteristics that is zero resistance and low heat transfer rate under critical temperature lead to research for the replacement of existing current lead with HTSC. In this paper, we investigated the temperature distributions of stacking type and rod type current lead with each cross-section area and length using Nastran program and compared each temperature distribution. It is obtained from this paper that stacking type current lead has flat temperature gradient and than rod type one and more stable operation as current lead is closely related with its cross-section area and length.

  • Cooling characteristics of cooling jacket for spindle system with built-in motor are studied. Three dimensional model was selected for the analysis of the helical-type cooling jacket. This model includes the estimation on the amount of heat generation from bearing and built-in motor and the thermal characteristic values such as heat flux on the boundary. The temperature distributions are analyzed and the cooling by Nusselt number and total heat transfer coefficient. Numerical results show that stream-wise cross section area and flow rate are important factors for cooling characteristics of cooling jacket.

  • This study analyzes and optimizes a design for a trapezoidal profile straight fin using one-dimensional analytical method. The heat transfer, fin length and fin height are optimized as a function of fin volume, fin shape factor and fin base length. In this optimization, convection characteristic number over fin surface and that of fluid inside fin wall are considered. One of the results shows that the maximum heat loss increases as fin volume increases and both fin shape factor and fin base length decrease.

  • A reversed trapezoidal fin with variable fin base thickness is optimized using a two-dimensional analytical method. For the fin base boundary condition, instead of a constant temperature, heat transfer from the inside fluid to the fin base is considered. Heat loss from the fin tip is not ignored. The maximum heat loss, corresponding optimum fin effectiveness, fin length and base height are presented as a function of the fin base thickness, shape factor and volume.

  • Recently, environmental concerns and issues have become great concerns for the public. Therefore, this study is conducted with the objective of preventing energy depletion and $CO_2$ emission. PCM (Phase Change Materials) having latent heat characteristic is mixed in mortar to find a proper mix proportion. Also, the mortar properties and performances as well as a melting point of PCM when applied to air conditioning and heating conditions in at building environments were obtained by performing experiments. Also, latent heat and heat transfer characteristics were obtained from experiments by test of thermal performance to formulate temperature gradient about amount of heat transfer of PCM content using the Fourier's thermal equation. The study results can be used in the application of PCM in buildings and expected effect of air conditioning and heating energy.

Heat Transfer Characteristics of the Asphalt pavement by Solar Energy accumulation (열에너지 누적에 따른 아스팔트 포장의 열전달 특성 변화)

  • Asphalt pavement accounts for more than 90% of the total pavement in Korea. Pavement is most widely constructed among construction structures. The heat transfer characteristics (Thermophysical Properties) of the asphalt pavement cause the heat island effect in downtown areas. An increasing asphalt surface temperature is one of the major causes of damage to asphalt pavement. This study examined the heat transfer characteristic factors according to solar energy accumulation in an asphalt mixture. The specimens (WC-2 & PA-13, Recycled aggregate used WC-2) used in the experiment were compacted with a Gyratory Compactor. The thermo-physical properties (thermal conductivity, specific heat capacity, thermal diffusivity, and thermal emissivity) and solar energy accumulation were evaluated. The thermal accumulation and HFM tests revealed a 1.2- to 2.0-fold difference. This indicates that the thermal conductivity of the asphalt mixture pavement changes with the accumulation of solar energy. An analysis of the correlation of thermal conductivity according to the surface temperature of the asphalt mixture showed that WC-2 was logarithmic, and PA-13 was linear. Experiments on the heat transfer characteristics of asphalt pavement that can be used for thermal failure modeling of asphalt were conducted.

  • A finite-difference method based on conservative supra characteristic method(CSCM) type upwind flux difference splitting has been studied on the bluntness effect on the wall heat transfer rate and wall pressure over blunt-body. The results show that the stagnation heating varies inversely with the square root of the nose radius.

  • A rotating cryogenic system was designed similar to the cooling system for the rotor of a superconducting generator. The experimental rotor has an inner vessel which simulates the winding space of an actual superconducting rotor, and a torque tube of comparable design. This paper describes the evaluation of the total heat leak into the inner vessel that leads to the study of the jheat transfer characteristic of the rotating cryogenic system.
