The theoretical analysis of performance characteristics in a $CO_2$ cycle with the heat exchanger type was carried out. The size and performance of the fin-tube and microchannel heat exchanger were compared with operating conditions. As a result, the performance of the fin-tube gascooler and evaporator were more sensitive to the variation of operating condition compared to that of the microchannel gascooler and evaporator. Beside, the sizes of microchannel gascooler and evaporator could be decreased by 73% and 76%, respectively, compared to those of the fin-tube type gascooler and evaporator with the similar capacity. The COP and reliability of the $CO_2$ system can be increased by using a microchannel heat exchanger.
In this study, comparison study has been performed between two-stage compression and a vapor-recompression refrigeration cycle and a liquefaction using LNG cold heat. When using a first method using two-stage compression and a refrigeration cycle, at least three compressors are required, however when using LNG cold heat, no compressor is required since carbon dioxide can be pumped after condensing with the heat exchange with -160℃ of LNG. Through this study, we can save more than one hundred million KRW annually by using LNG cold heat instead of using gas compression and refrigeration cycle.
The mathematical model for the heat exchangers of absorber and desorber is made in the elementary control volume method and the thermodynamic properties of working fluid. water/ammonia mixture. are calculated by some fundamental subroutines in RefProp 7.0 and flash subroutines made by authors The simulation results show that two-stage cycle has higher COP than single stage if temperature lift is high: the performance of single stage compression cycle can be improved by increase of absorber pressure. but the performance of two-stage compression cycle can not be improved in this way : the compressor discharging temperature of two-stage compression is much lower than that of single stage cycle. which is very important to the safety operation of CA heat pump. Major parameter comparison between the cycles at their optimal configurations is also given.
The simulation of power cycle and unsteady gas exchange processes in the inlet and exhaust systems of the single-cylinder 2-stroke cycle compression ignition engine was studied in this paper. In power cycle process, the single-zone model proposed by Whitehouse and Way was used, and the convective and radiative heat transfer from cylinder contents to surroundings was considered. To solve the equations for gas exchange process, the generalized method of characteristics including area change, friction, heat transfer and entropy gradients was used. Also with the path line calculation, the entropy change along the path line and the variation of specific heat due to the change of temperature and the composition of cylinder gas were considered. As a result of the simulation, the change of pressure and temperature in the cylinder against the crank angle, the rate of net heat release, and the change of properties at each point in the inlet and exhaust pipe against the crank angle were obtained. The engine performances under various operating conditions were also calculated.
Cycle analysis was performed in order to find the optimum design point of the LNG Boil-off gas re-liquefaction system. Thermodynamic analysis revealed the system could be defined by three state variables. Thus the system performance could be described by the three cold endpoint temperatures of the three-pass heat exchanger. This enabled us to investigate the cycle performance in terms of the heat exchanger parameters. To get access to the cycle states of higher system performances, larger heat exchangers were found necessary. Also the thermal pinch in cryogenic heat exchangers was found to act as a limiting factor to the system performance.
The objectives of this study are to analyze the performance of a heat pump system with the various heat source and to carry out economic assessment for the heat pump system. The COP of the river water and ground source heat pump system was 20% higher than that of the air source heat pump system because river water and geothermal provide stable operating temperature compared with air temperature throughout the year. In addition, the economic assessment of a heat pump system using air, river water, and geothermal as a heat source was carried out. The ratio of the life cycle operating cost to the life cycle cost increased with the increase of building capacity. The payback period was found to be less than 3.3 and 4.5 years, respectively when the capacity of the river water and ground source heat pump was larger than 10 RT.
The major irreversibilities in absorption chillers are associated with the transfer of heat into and out from the machine and irreversible process inside the machine. By modeling only external irreversibilities(endo-reversible), a model was formulated to predict the ideal performance of a single-effect absorption chiller. Its actual performance including both external and internal irreversibilities was calculated with a in-house simulation program. The optimization of heat transfer area distribution was performed for both endo-reversible cycle and actual cycle. The equation of endo-reversible modeling was found to give about 2times higher cooling capacity than the simulation program. At optimal distribution, it was found that heat transfer area of the evaporator was about 30% of total area, that of the generator was 20%, and the rest 50% was for the absorber and condenser. The system COP for endo-reversible cycle was slightly higher than that for actual cycle. In the case of LiBr-water single-effect absorption chiller, the maximum cooling capacity was obtained near the condition that LMTD is same at all heat exchangers.
This study is collects design data through the process design of the organic Rankine cycle, which can produce 20kW of electric power through the recovery of waste heat. In this study, the simulation was conducted by using APSEN HYSYS in order to make the model for the process design of the 20kW class waste heat recovery system. For the thermodynamic model, the test was conducted with hot water as the heat source, with the water steam used as the cooling water for the cooler and the refrigerant R245fa in the cycle. In Case 1 and Case 2, it was expected and found that the cycle efficiency was 10.6% and that 36.86kw was produced, considering the margin of 84% of 20kW. In Case 3 and Case 4, it was expected and found from the simulation that the cycle efficiency was 12% and that 30.0kw was produced, considering the margin of 84% of 20kW.
To apply an analysis method of life cycle cost when assessing economics of equipment system, we should basically set up preconditions such as useful life, price escalation rate, interest rate, etc. as well as consider a calculation algorism of source energy and heat source system, which is a complex process for life cycle costing. For this reason, equipment designers tend to plan heat source systems, without a thorough investigation on economics of alternative systems at the pre-design phase. In this process, architectural designers should adopt a proper heat source system, which is one of the most important factors for planning an appropriate architectural design, through a discussion with equipment designers in a short time. In order to offer an evaluation method for equipment designers to analyze economics of an alternative heat source system easily at the pre-design phase, this research would define the simplified economics, evaluation method through analysis of existing papers for economics evaluation, and examine validity through comparison of simplified method values ($LCC_{EC}$) and life cycle costing values ($LCC_{15}$) for six alternative heat source systems.
This paper presents the new cascade liquefaction cycles using $CO_2-C_2H_6-N_2$ and $CO_2-N_2O-N_2$. The performance of the cascade liquefaction cycles with respect to temperature differences in the LNG heat exchangers is analyzed using HYSYS software and then compared the performance of these cycles with phillips optimized cascade liquefaction cycle. The coefficient of performance of the new liquefaction cycles considered in this study decreases with the temperature differences in the LNG heat exchangers, but the compressor work, expander work and heat capacity in the LNG heat exchanger increases, respectively. From the comparison of performance of three cycles, the cascade liquefaction cycles using $CO_2-C_2H_6-N_2$ showed the highest COP. And the cycles using $CO_2-C_2H_6-N_2$ and $CO_2-N_2O-N_2$ presented the second and third highest COP, respectively. In the view of performance, the optimized cascade liquefaction cycle using $C_3H_8-C_2H_4-C_1H_4$ yields much better COP. But, in the environment view, it is found that the cascade liquefaction cycle using $CO_2-C_2H_6-N_2$ shows favorable characteristics.
