  • In this paper, human heartbeat detection using signal reflected from the antenna which is varied reflection coefficient by near field variation of the antenna. For detection reflected signal from antenna, 20 dB directional coupler is used because of not affecting transmitting signal. Variance of reflection coefficient of dipole antenna is about 0.07 dB which is too small the distinction between heartbeat and noise. Sensitivity increasing method is applied and heartbeat is clearly detected. Due to phase and magnitude errors come from discrete value components, antenna is located some points in experiments ro find optimum sensitivity position. And providing verification of using communication signal, heartbeat detection when frequency modulated signal which have 4 MHz bandwidth is applied.

  • Arrhythmia electrocardiogram signal contains a specific unusual heartbeat with abnormal morphology. Because unusual heartbeat is useful for diagnosis and classification of various diseases, such as arrhythmia, detection of unusual heartbeat from the arrhythmic ECG signal is very important. Amplitude and kurtosis at R-peak point and RR interval are characteristics of ECG signal on R-wave. In this paper, we provide a method for detecting unusual heartbeat based on these. Through the value of the attribute deviates more from the average value if unusual heartbeat is more certainly, the proposed method detects unusual heartbeat in order using the mean and standard deviation. From 15 ECG signals of MIT-BIH arrhythmia database which has R-wave distortion, we compare the result of conventional method which uses the fixed threshold value and the result of proposed method. Throughout the experiment, the sensitivity is significantly increased to 97% from 50% using the proposed method.

  • In this paper, we implemented a heartbeat-signal monitoring system that can measure and check the heartbeat of a human body in any time and anywhere. The implemented prototype is composed of heartbeat measurement terminal, gateway, and server that collect and process data. The terminal compose sensor network using ZigBee protocol. And server acquire heartbeat signal through differentiating collected data two times, and store above data to database and manage it. We can understand the status of examinee's heart without restriction and self-awareness. Through experiment, we confirmed the possibility of ubiquitous healthcare system based on sonsor network using the ZigBee.

  • This paper proposes an improved heartbeat signal extraction method for ballistocardiography(BCG)-based heart-rate measurement on mobile environment. First, from a mobile facial video, a handshake-free head motion signal is extracted by tracking facial features and background features at the same time. Then, a novel signal periodicity computation method is proposed to accurately separate out the heartbeat signal from the head motion signal. The proposed method could robustly extract heartbeat signals from mobile facial videos, and enabled more accurate heart rate measurement (measurement errors were reduced by 3-4 bpm) compared to the existing method.

  • The photoplethysmogram (PPG) signal is one of the mainly considered bio signals along with the electrocardiogram (ECG) signal. PPG signals can be used to estimate the speed of flow of blood in vein, saturation of peripheral oxygen and etc. The heartbeat rate is a common feature in order to evaluate those checkup lists. To estimate the correct heartbeat rate, dynamic noises must be removed in the PPG signal. Conventionally, the acceleration signal is used to remove dynamic noises. This method, however, increases the computational complexity. In this paper, we proposes a solution that uses only PPG signals to calculate the heartbeat rate, and which can be used as a basement in real-time healthcare solution.

  • In this paper, the 2.4GHz doppler radar system consisting of the doppler radar module and a baseband module were designed to detect heartbeat and respiration signal without direct skin contact. A bio-radar system emits continuous RF signal of 2.4GHz toward human chest, and then detects the reflected signal so as to investigate cardiopulmonary activities. The heartbeat and respiration signals acquired from quadrature signal of the doppler radar system are applied to the pre-processing circuit, amplification circuit, and the offset circuit of the baseband module. ECG(electrocardiogram) and reference respiration signals are measured simultaneously to evaluate the doppler radar system. As a result, the respiration signal of doppler radar signal is detected to 1m without complex digital signal processing. The sensitivity and calculated from I/Q respiration signal were $98.29{\pm}1.79%$, $97.11{\pm}2.75%$, respectively, and positive predictivity were $98.11{\pm}1.45%$, $92.21{\pm}10.92%$, respectively. The sensitivity and positive predictivity calculated from phase and magnitude of the doppler radar were $95.17{\pm}5.33%$, $94.99{\pm}5.43%$, respectively. In this paper, we confirmed that noncontact real-time heartbeat and respiration detection using the doppler radar system has the possibility and limitation.

  • The paper proposes a new signal model which is revised from the commonly used signal model. Recently, many research institutions had a research about CW bio-radar for detecting he heartbeat and respiration. However, when the bio-radar detects the heartbeat using the previous signal model, the bio-radar has a disadvantage of weakness about he residual phase and AWGN. Also, the model is inappropriate in ergonomics because this signal model supposes hat the heart and lung are located at a same place. In this paper, the modified signal model, which is appropriate n ergonomics, is proposed. This paper analyzes and compares with the performance for detecting the heartbeat and respiration using the previous model and revised model in AWGN and multi-path environment.

  • In this paper, a new stacked element pressure sensor has proposed for heartbeat and respiration measurement. This device can be directly attached to an individual's chest; heartbeat and respiration are detected by the pulsatile vibration and deformation of the chest. A key feature of the device is the simultaneous measurement of heart rate and respiration. The structure of the sensor consists of two stacked elements, in which one element includes one polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) thin film bonded on polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) substrate. In addition, for the measurement and signal processing, the electric circuit and the filter are simply constructed with an OP-amp, resistance, and a capacitor. One element (element1, PDMS) maximizes the respiration signal; the other (element2, PVDF) is used to measure heartbeat. Element1 and element2 had sensitivity of 0.163V/N and 0.209V/N, respectively, and element2 showed improved characteristics compared with element1 in response to force. Thus, element1 and element2 were optimized for measuring respiration heart rate, respectively. Through mechanical and vivo human tests, this sensor shows the great potential to optimize the signals of heartbeat and respiration compared with commercial devices. Moreover, the proposed sensor is flexible, light weight, and low cost. All of these characteristics illustrate an effective piezoelectric pressure sensor for heartbeat and respiration measurements.

  • Communication in real-time distributed system should have high reliability. To develop group communication Protocol with high reliability, potential fault should be known and when fault occurs, it should be detected and a necessary action should be taken. Existing detection method by Ack and Time-out is not proper for real time system due to load to Ack which is not received. Therefore, group communication messages from real-time distributed processing systems should be communicated to all receiving processors or ignored by the message itself. This paper can make be sure of transmission of reliable message and deadline by suggesting and experimenting fault detection technique applicable in the real time distributed system based on ring, and analyzing its results. The experiment showed that the shorter the cycle of the heartbeat signal, the shorter the time to propagate the fault detection, which is the time for other nodes to detect the failure of the node.

  • In this paper, a small microwave sensor that can be applied to a wearable device is proposed because it can detect the heartbeat signal of a human body moving irregularly at low speed. It consist of balanced microstrip radiation patches in the 2.4 GHz ISM band, self-oscillation detection circuit, and feedback circuit. Based on the theoretical development and simulation, the validity of the proposed structure was confirmed and the manufactured prototype was tested. The board size of the circuit is as small as 65mm × 85㎟, and has a low power consumption of 60mW thanks to the simple RF circuit structure. Finally heartbeat signal has been obtained from a human body moving at low speed (0.5Hz) within a linear distance of 2 to 30mm close to the sensor and a lateral distance of ±20mm.
