  • Purpose: This is a descriptive study to identify the relationship of quality of life and learning style of the elderly. Method: 106 elderly persons living in Seoul were surveyed using a questionnaire to identify their demographic characteristics, learning styles, and perceived quality of life. Results: 17% of the respondents were in the low quality of life (QOL). The QOL showed significantly different according to learning styles, gender, current health status, perceived level of current life happiness, and monthly pocket money. The highest average score of QOL was found in the Assimilator group, and the lowest average score was found in the Diverger group. Conclusions: Among the four categories significantly related to QOL, the case of learning style and current health status are the categories by which nurses can intervene to improve QOL. Thus, nurses should emphasize the relationship to improve the clients' QOL. Since the scores of QOL were high for the Assimilator and Accomodator groups, nurse should identify the learning style of the elderly as soon as possible and then help those who are under-developed, to further develop Assimilator and Accomodator learning styles.

  • Introduction: Preplacement health examination (PHE) is performed when a worker starts a certain work task which is designated as having occupational risks by the Ministry of Employment and Labor (MOEL). All data related to health examination except PHE are reported to the MOEL by the law. This study has been performed to understand the status of PHE at certain workplaces. Methods: PHE data gathered in a university hospital were analyzed and they were followed with results of the special health examination (SHE) in 2019 and 2020. Those who were evaluated as unfit to work as it was, were interviewed directly or indirectly through an occupational health manager to follow up the management status of their recognized health problems. Results: The unfit to work (unFTW) rate of PHE was 2.8%, and was not different according to the size of workplace or having occupational health service. The major cause of unfit to work was the uncontrolled life-style diseases such as hypertension and diabetes. The rate of SHE followed by PHE was 31.1%. It was not different by the unFTW rates, however, they were different according to having a full time in-house occupational health manager. Thirty-one among 71 examinees who were evaluated as unFTW underwent SHE after controlling their health condition and were finally evaluated as fit to work. Nineteen among 31 started to take medicine and eight have been placed in the work without designated risks. Conclusion: PHE can be used for new workers, who may have unknown or uncontrolled life-style diseases, to be asked to manage life-style diseases as well as work-related risks such as shift work. In order to have a better tracking system for work-related risks, the information of PHE should be analyzed together with other data from health examination.

The purpose of this study is to identify the demographic variables, life-style and level of concern about osteohealth-related factors according to the health promotion behavior among university female students. The result are following: 1. The highest level of concern about osteoporosis-related factor is sufficient sleeping. 2. The highest level of dietary about osteoporosis-related factors are vegetable and fruit. 3. Level of concern about osteoporosis-related factors according to demographic variables are not significantly different, but dietary were significantly different in age, height and income. 4. Level of concern about osteoporosis-related factors according to lifestyle are significantly different in weekly hour of exercise and weight control, and dietary are significantly different in milk intake at elementary school and present. 5. Level of concern about osteoporosis-related factors have correlated positively with dietary. University and College female students who participated in this study have concerned middle at calcium intake and exercise, but two variables are significantly different in lifestyle and dietary. Because of two variables are modifiable, it should be regarded importantly in nursing domain. The results were as follows 1. 30.8% of subjects were early gastric cancer anf 69.2% were advanced gastric cancer. The subject knowing about diagnosis was 83.1%. 16.9% did'nt know about diagnosis. 2. The correlationship between Health belief and Locus of control of subjects was not supported. 3. There was statistically no difference of life style between early and advanced gastric cancer patients. 4. There were statistically significant differences in perceived sensitivity according to weight. educational level. and birth order, in perceived barrier according to educational level. and in perceived severity according to occupation among demographic characteristics of study subjects. From above results. health professional has to educate general population to detect gastric cancer early to improve survival rate because early gastric cancer is high in survival rate, and to prevent recurrence and to maintain continuing healthy status. In the future, gastroscopy also has to expand to detect early. For there was no difference in life style between early and advanced gastric cancer. carcinogen related to diet should be emphasized through education. The perceived benefit among health belief model was not supported in this study therefore further study and comparison between gastric cancer and normal population are needed.

  • The aim of this study was to determine the extent to which sociodemographic and health related life-style variables explain body weight distribution and to understand weight contol behavior. To study this study 298 students were selected, it was consisted of obesity group(101) and control group(197). The average age of subjects was 14.2 and the prevalence of obesity was 2-3 per class as 5.6% among 1,793. 71% among same subject was showed higher weight pattern than last one year, ovesity group which was obesity both in 93 and 94 was 34%. Correlation between body weight(under weight/obesity) and independent variables including sociodemographic factor and health- related life style tested through Multiple Classification Analysis was very significant, explained 36% of the total variance. Sociodemografic and hereditary factors such as education level, age of father and physical features of parents, life style factors as exercise preference and perceived health status showed highly contribution to body weight. Concretely, there were showed a higher obesity prevalence tendency when education level and age of father was high, physical features of parents was obesity. In otherwise, there were showed a higher underweight prevalence tendency when education level and age of father was low. Experience rates of weight control was 53% generally, 84% in obesity group, and 11% in underweight group. There were utilized weight control behaviors through diet method mainly in obesity group, diet and exercise methods in underweight group. There were showed that underweight group are prefer exercise to obesity group. Conclusionally, These findings suggest that education, age, physical features of parents, exercise preference and perceived health status is important factors related to body weight among middle school girls.
