Importance of dental check-up, recommendation for the use of oral hygiene supplies, etc. The findings of this study were oral health education should be strengthened for them.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to construct and test a structural equation model of health behavior compliance among patients with percutaneous coronary intervention based on self-determination theory. Methods: A total of 227 participants who received follow-up care after percutaneous coronary intervention were recruited. A structured questionnaire was used to assess health providers' autonomous support, basic psychological needs, autonomous motivation, controlled motivation, type D personality, and health behavior compliance. Collected data were analyzed using SPSS 21.0 and AMOS 21.0 program. Results: The final hypothetical model showed a good fitness with data: GFI=.94, RMSEA=.07, CFI=.96, NFI=.92, TLI=.94. The results revealed that autonomous support of health care providers, basic psychological needs, and autonomous motivation, and D-type personality accounted for 51.8% of health behavior compliance. Conclusion: The findings of this study indicate that enhanced autonomous support of health care providers is essential to promote patients' basic psychological needs and autonomous motivation. This leads to maximized compliance to the health behaviors among patients who underwent percutaneous coronary intervention. We recommend that health care institutions establish various measures to foster the special environments in which health care providers can actively provide and utilize autonomous support for their patients.
Purpose: This study was done to examine the level of performance and predictors influencing health promotion behavior of Korean students in China. Method: The participants were 160 Korean students who have lived in Beijing, China. Data were collected by self reporting questionnaire from september to november, 2001 and t-test, ANOVA, Person's correlation coefficients, and stepwise multiple regression were used to analyze the data. Results: The health promotion behavior score showed a positive correlation with perceived health status(r=.17, p=.025), social support(r=.29, p=.0001), and self-efficacy(r=.41, p=.0001). By use of stepwise multiple regression analysis, it was determined that the main factors influencing health promotion behavior were self-efficacy 17.0%(F=32.56, p=.0001) and social support 2.2%(F=4.11, p=.044). These variables explained 19.2% of the variance in the health promotion behavior scores. Conclusion: Self-efficacy and social support were the main factors influencing health promotion behavior. These findings showed that we need to develop nursing strategies to promote self-efficacy and social support for Korean students in China.
The purpose of the study was to investigate the level of health behavior of school-age children and to identify the predicting variables of the school-age children's health behavior. The subject were 467 children in grades four to six, enrolled in two elementary schools located in two cities. The mean age of the subject was 10.03(SD=1.33). The data were analyzed using t-test, ANOVA, correlation analysis, and stepwise multiple regression. The result are as follows : 1. The mean of the score of health behavior of the school-age children was 154.6, showing that they are practicing health behavior relatively well. 2. There were significant differences in the mean scores of health behavior according to grade (F=6.53 p=.001), sex(t=-3.70, p=.000), educational level of the parents(F=4.92, p=.002 ; F=4.47, p=.004), occupation of the parents(F=3.31, p=.003 ; F=4.76, p=.000), and socioeconomic status(F=11.87, p=.000). 3. There were significant correlations between health behavior and health motivation(r=.53, p=.000), self-concept(r=.32, p=.000), perceived health status(r=.16, p=.000), and health locus of control (r=.15, p=.001). 4. Health motivation, self-concept, grade, socioeconomic status, and health locus of control were identified as predictor variables of health behavior of the school-age children from the stepwise multiple regression analysis. The total percent of variance accounted for by these five variables was 35.0%. From the result, it is suggested that in the development of a school health education program, the effect of health motivation and self-concept to promote student's health behavior in school-age children should be considered.
This study was conducted to examine factors influencing mental health of middle-aged adults(N=203) in relation to sociodemographic variables, health behaviors, and social support. The survey with questionnaire was carried out for the subjects of the residents in two communities of a local city located in Gangwon-do, Korea from September 3 to 15, 2003. Data analysis procedure included stepwise multiple regression using mental health as the dependent variable, and sociodemographic variables, health behaviors, and social support as independent variables. There were significant differences in the mental health by birth place(t=-1.67, p<0.10), religion (t=2.27, p<0.05) and subjective economic status(F=2.29, p<0.10). Mental health showed significant positive correlations with both health behavior (r=0.462, p<0.001) and social support (r=0.142, p<0.05). Stepwise multiple regression analysis for mental health revealed that the most powerful predictor was health behavior(β=0.453, p<0.001). Health behavior and religion explained 24% of the variance. The results suggest the necessity of a intervention that considers the health behaviors should be included in middle-aged adults so as to promote mental health.
Purpose: The aim of this study was to investigate the educational status and needs of premature birth prevention, and to identify factors associated with preconception health behaviors. Methods: The study design was a crosssectional descriptive study. Data were collected through an online questionnaire survey, and the subjects were 192 women of childbearing age in Korea. Data were analyzed using the Mann-Whitney U test, Kruskal-Wallis test, Spearman's correlation coefficients, and multiple regression. Results: The proportion of subjects who received education on premature birth prevention was 8.9%, and 75.5% of subjects answered that they needed education on premature birth prevention. They demanded education through online media, small groups, cases, cartoons (webtoon) with stories, pictures, and videos. A related factor of preconception health behavior was self-efficacy for high-risk pregnancy health care (β=.20, p=.012), which accounted for 8.2% of the total variance related to preconception health behavior. Conclusion: There was a need for more development of education programs to prevent premature birth for women of childbearing age. Its education programs should be applied with online, small group activities using various educational media. It is also required to promote preconception health behavior through self-efficacy for high-risk pregnancy health care.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate osteoporosis knowledge, health beliefs, and influencing factors on health behaviors among female college students. Methods: Using the Osteoporosis Quiz, the Health belief Scale, and the Health Behavior Questionnaire, data were collected from 314 female college students from 4 universities located in Chungcheong providence. Results: The mean scores of knowledge and health belief were $12.7{\pm}3.81$ and $90.9{\pm}12.66$, respectively. There was a statistically significant correlation between osteoporosis knowledge and health belief (p<.001). Also, a statistically significant correlation was found between health belief and health behavior (p<.001). According to the regression model, knowledge, perceived benefit, perceived barrier, family history of osteoporosis, and health interest explained 6.7% of total variance in health behavior. Conclusion: Female college students should be taught to be aware of the importance of proper dietary intake and regular exercise as a way to maintain or promote the health of their bones so that they can prevent osteoporosis.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between perceived health state, personality, situational barrier, health promoting behavior, to provide the basic data for health promoting intervention. Method: This study was designed as a descriptive correlation study. Data were 396 undergraduate students of one university in Chung-Buk. The instruments for this study were the modified health promoting behavior scale developed by Bak, Insuk(1995), and the modified perceived health state scale developed by Im, Meeyoung (1998), the modified personality scale developed by Park, Youngbae(1998), the modified situational barrier scale developed by Im, Meeyoung(1998). Result: The results of this study showed that the mean score for perceived health state 2.72, personality 3.35, situational barrier 2.72 and health promoting behavior 2.67. The health promoting behavior categories, scores for 'sanitary life'(3.08), 'self-actualization and interrelationship'(2.93) were higher than the mean score, whereas scores for 'healthy diet'(2.64), 'rest and sleep'(2.62), 'exercise and stress management'(2.49), and 'diet management' (2.25) were lower than the mean score. This study revealed the negative correlation between perceived health state, personality, situational barrier and health promoting behavior in undergraduate students. Conclusion: Perceived health state accounted for 16% and personality accounted for 21.3% of the variance in health promoting behavior in students. Therefore, health promoting programs that increase health state and personality should be developed to promote health behavior and to diminish situational barrier for students in Korea.
