  • Objectives: Scientific verification for health effects has been constantly demanded through the forest healing factors. In this study, phytoncide concentration which is one of the forest healing factors, was investigated according to stand density, season and visiting time, and analyzed correlation with micrometeorology factors. Methods: Total volatile organic compounds (TVOCs) and Natural volatile organic compounds (NVOCs) were collected using a measuring instrument which is connected to an air pump with the Tenax TA tube. The 32NVOCs were selected through the detailed criteria of adequacy assessment for recreational forest. The statistical analysis (correlation and stepwise regression analysis) was conducted between phytoncide concentration and micrometeorology factors. Results: NVOCs concentration linearly increased according to stand density. The high level showed in the summer (p<0.05), and there is no significant difference according to visiting hours of the Healing forest. NVOCs is a negative correlation with solar radiation, PAR and wind direction, and a positive correlation with relative humidity and temperature (p<0.01). NVOCs increased following the increase of humidity and temperature ($R^2=0.55$). Conclusions: Phytoncide linearly increased according to stand density, and showed the correlation significantly with microclimate factors. In future, these results will be utilized as a basic material to promote the generation of phytoncide, which positively influences human health promotion and manage the forest welfare space.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of personal, family, and job characteristics on married male postal delivery workers' overall life satisfaction. For this purpose, we surveyed 263 married male postal delivery workers between October 1st to 21st, 2008, and analyzed the data with multiple regression analysis. The results of this study were as follows: First, postal workers earned a low level of income, and their quality of health was not good relative to their age. They had severe work-family conflict, but could support and communicate with colleagues well. Second, even though they felt little opportunities and difficulties in lives, they moderately satisfied with everyday lives. Third, 43% of their satisfaction was explained by personal, family, and job related variables. Levels of workfamily conflict (${\beta}=-.31^{***}$), work support with colleagues (${\beta}=.25^{***}$), family sharing time (${\beta}=.14^*$), and health (${\beta}=.12^*$) were especially important variables affecting their satisfaction.

  • Objectives: Low birth weight (LBW) is a major public health concern, especially in developing countries, and is frequently related to child morbidity and mortality. This study aimed to identify key determinants that influence the prevalence of LBW in selected developing countries. Methods: Secondary data analysis was conducted using 10 recent Demography and Health Surveys from developing countries based on the availability of the required information for the years 2010 to 2013. Associations of demographic, socioeconomic, community-based, and individual factors of the mother with LBW in infants were evaluated using multivariate logistic regression analysis. Results: The overall prevalence of LBW in the study countries was 15.9% (range, 9.0 to 35.1%). The following factors were shown to have a significant association with the risk of having an LBW infant in developing countries: maternal age of 35 to 49 years (adjusted odds ratio [aOR], 1.7; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.2 to 3.1; p<0.01), inadequate antenatal care (ANC) (aOR, 1.7; 95% CI, 1.1 to 2.8; p<0.01), illiteracy (aOR, 1.5; 95% CI, 1.1 to 2.7; p<0.001), delayed conception (aOR, 1.8; 95% CI, 1.4 to 2.5; p<0.001), low body mass index (aOR, 1.6; 95% CI, 1.2 to 2.1; p<0.001) and being in the poorest socioeconomic stratum (aOR, 1.4; 95% CI, 1.1 to 1.8; p<0.001). Conclusions: This study demonstrated that delayed conception, advanced maternal age, and inadequate ANC visits had independent effects on the prevalence of LBW. Strategies should be implemented based on these findings with the goal of developing policy options for improving the overall maternal health status in developing countries.

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the heath status and health behavior of middle-aged Korean men and women. Even though there has been increased concern about extremely high mortality rate of Korean middle-aged men and mental health problems of middle aged women, there is a dearth of empirical studies which examine the health status and health behavior of middle-aged men and women in Korea. This study attempts to fill these gaps. Data gathered from 1,667 men and women aged between 30-59 are analyzed to examine the level of physical health, mental health, perceived health and health behavior and to explore the gender and age group differences in these aspects. The results show that there exist gender difference and age group difference in health status: Women are less healthy than men and as age increased health status declined. Women at their 50s are least healthy and most unhappy suggesting age and gender interaction in health status. There exist a gender difference in health behavior: Men have regular check-ups more frequently than women and exercise more. These results are discussed in terms of the gender differences in the experiences, social roles and life styles over the life course.

  • Purpose: this study investigates the effect of private health insurance on healthcare utilization. Methodology: For the analysis, we employed the three level nested two part model. Findings: the private health insurance adoption was associated with higher health care utilization. In particular, indemnity and fixed insurances adoption was associated with higher probability of outpatient visit, the number of outpatient visit and outpatient cost. While indemnity insurance adoption was associated with higher inpatient admission probability and inpatient days, fixed insurance adoption was associated only with higher inpatient admission probability. Practical Implications: indemnity and fixed insurance adoption were related with the adverse selection as well as moral hazard.

Oct. 1986, and February, April. 1987, 324 kindergartners is Seoul. And those factors assumed in the study to have impacts on the clothing weight were, 1) Anthropometric measurement and BMI, Kaup-Index, % fat. 2) The motor ability 3) The health states assumed by application of cornell medical index and health state, Incidence, medical history. The results obtained were to follows. 1) In November, clothing weight was ghigh correlation between anthropometric measurements, BMI, Kaup-Index, motor ability and cornell-medical index. 2) The health problem scores were significant in total clothing weight, upper wear clothing weight, under wear clothing weight. 3) The relation between clothing weight and weight, BMI, motor ability and cold contration among the health state scores proves to be significant correlation.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the influence of perception of physical attractiveness and demographic variables on health promoting behavior and appearance management behavior. This study used a questionnaire. The participants were 325 adult women. The results were as follows. As they were younger, their perception of physical attractiveness was more positive, and they were a tendency to manage their appearance with clothing, makeup, skin care, and hair style more active. As they were older, they perceived higher in the mental and physical health promoting behavior. The higher perception of physical attractiveness people had, the higher awareness of mental health promoting behavior they had. Finally, appearance management behaviors such as clothing, cosmetics, and body care were found to have a positive effect on physical health promoting behavior.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of human capital and social capital, including employment status, education, income, social supports, and social participations, on the health status of the elderly aged over 50, after controlling for various demographic variables. Data were from the 6th wave of the Korean Labor and Income Panel Study(n=3,459). The major findings of this study were as follows: First, human capital and social capital were both resources that can contribute to improving the health status of the elderly aged over 50. Second, the effects of human capital and social capital on the health status of the elderly differed in the three subsamples defined by employment status. Based on the empirical results, policy implications were provided.
