Preparation and Improvement of Physicochemical and Functional Properties of Dietary Fiber from Corn Cob Fermented by Aspergillus niger

  • Corn cobs were fermented with Aspergillus niger to produce soluble dietary fiber (SDF) of high quality and excellent food safety. In this work, the fermentation process was optimized by single-factor test and response surface methodology (RSM). The optimal fermentation conditions were determined to be a material-liquid ratio of 1:30, an inoculum concentration of 11%, a temperature of 32℃, a time of 6 days, and a shaking speed of 200 r/min. Under these conditions, the SDF yield of corn cob increased from 2.34% to 11.92%, and the ratio of soluble dietary fiber to total dietary fiber (SDF/TDF) reached 19.08%, meeting the requirements for high-quality dietary fiber (SDF/TDF of more than 10%). Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and Fourier-transformed infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) analysis revealed that the fermentation effectively degraded part of cellulose and hemicellulose, resulting in the formation of a loose and porous structure. After fermentation the water swelling capacity, water-holding capacity, and oil-holding capacity of the corn cob SDF were significantly improved and the adsorption capacity of glucose, cholesterol, and nitrite ions all increased by more than 20%. Moreover, the total phenolic content increased by 20.96%, which correlated with the higher antioxidant activity of SDF. Overall, the fermentation of corn cobs by A. niger increased the yield and enhanced the functional properties of dietary fiber (DF) as well.

Concept Analysis of Health Literacy for Patients with Cardiovascular Disease using Hybrid Model

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study is to provide a clear definition of the health literacy for patients with cardiovascular disease by analyzing the dimensions and properties using Hybrid concept analysis. Methods: The concept of health literacy of patients with cardiovascular disease was analyzed according to the cyclic process of theoretical phase-field work phase-final analysis phase presented in the Hybrid model. We reviewed 26 literatures and conducted in-depth interviews with 13 patients with cardiovascular disease. Results: The concept of health literacy in cardiovascular patients is derived from two dimensions and five attributes. Literacy skills, health information search ability and health information utilization skills were derived as attributes in the individual functional dimension, while active communication with the medical team and utilization of health information support resources were derived at the interrelational dimension. It is defined as the individualized and integrated ability of an individual to explore and utilize the various health information needed to make appropriate health decisions during the chronic course after diagnosis of cardiovascular disease, to communicate proactively with medical staffs and to utilize support resources. Conclusion: This study will contribute to the development and related research of health literacy measurement tools that can be used in cardiovascular nursing practice based on the attributes and indicators of health literacy for patients with cardiovascular disease.

견직물의 초란각액 처리 조건에 따른 연구(I) - 물성 및 태 변화를 중심으로 - (Development of Eco-friendly Textiles by Studying the effect of the Natural Chorangak Liquid Treatment of Silk Fabrics - Focusing on the Mechanical Properties & the Hand -)

  • Eco-friendly and health-functional clothing is now becoming the target of the worldwide hot trends. The purpose of this study is to develop an eco-friendly textiles to decrease environmental pollution and to be harmless for human health by investigating how the natural chorangak liquid treatment affects the changes of mechanical properties and the hand of silk fabrics according to different treatment conditions. Treatment was varied with various temperatures ($85^{\circ}C$, $90^{\circ}C$, $95^{\circ}C$) for 90 seconds after degumming. The results were as follows: 1) The natural chorangak liquid is the most effective at the ratio of glacial acid 200ml with eggshell 20g minimizing the time limit and sludge reduction. Its treatment of silk fabrics is optimized at $90^{\circ}C$ for 90 seconds with 25% conc. after degumming when considering tenacity and elongation. 2) After the treatment, tenacity and elongation of specimen are increased compared with those of degummed silk fabrics. 3) After analyzing the effect of the treatment on the characteristic values of basic mechanical properties of silk fabrics, mechanical properties (tensile, bending, shearing, compression, surface) are overall improved. The properties of thickness and weight are increased as well. 4) Based on the clear analysis on effects of the treatment on the mechanical properties and the hand of silk fabrics, the level of THV was enhanced from good to excellent. Therefore, chorangak liquid can be utilized satisfactorily as a new finishing agent for developing eco-friendly textiles.

비파괴식 검사를 통한 선글라스의 품질에 관한 연구 (Properties of Sunglass Lenses by Non-Destructive Test for the Sunglass Standards)

  • 시중에서 시판되고 있는 완성품 선글라스를 고가형 23개, 저가형 55개를 대상으로 비파괴식 검사를 통하여 선글라스의 품질에 대한 분석을 행하였다. 선글라스렌즈의 일반적 광학성질은 규격을 대체적으로 만족할 정도였으며, 재질면에서 HIGH-type은 glass의 비율이 그리고 LOW-type은 Acrylate의 비율이 높았다. HIGH-type의 투과색은 무채색에 근접하였으나 LOW-type은 570 nm와 485 nm를 잊는 선상에 넓게 분포되었다. 렌즈 투과색의 자극순도의 규정을 벗어난 경우는 HIGH-type에서 7%, LOW-type에서 18%였다. UV/VIS cut-off는 HIGH-type의 경우에 350 nm, 380 nm, 400 nm를 초과하는 그룹으로 대별되었으며 LOW-type에서는 350 nm 이하 영역에 있는 경우가 6%에 달하였다. erythemal UV의 투과특성에 있어서 HIGH-type의 경우에는 모두 규격을 만족시켰으나 LOW-type의 경우에는 DIN 규격에서 최대 5개의 fail을 보였다. 또한 Near UV의 투과특성은 HIGH-type의 선글라스에서 더 많은 fail을 보였다. IR 투과특성에서는 LOW-type이 HIGH-type보다 열등한 특성을 보였다. 신호등 인지도의 경우에 HIGH-type은 모두 규격을 만족시켰지만 LOW-type은 21.8%가 만족시키지 못하였다. 대비감도 시력은 L의 증가와 함께 증가하였으며, 측정 거리의 감소와 함께 높아졌다. a와 b의 변화에 따른 대비감도 시력은 a-b 교점에 근접하는 경우 높은 값을 보였다. 선글라스 렌즈의 특성은 투과색, UV, IR, 신호등 가시도, 재질, 대비감도 시력 등의 종합적인 평가에 의해서 이뤄져야 하며 한가지 규격의 획일적 적용을 지양해야 한다. 비파괴식 선글라스 렌즈의 분석에 있어서 HIGH-type의 경우가 LOW-type에 비하여 종합적인 특성이 우수하였다.

고분자 수용액의 레올러지 특성이 캡슐의 침강에 미치는 영향 (Effect of Rheological Properties on the Sedimentation of Capsules in an Aqueous Polymer Solution)

  • 본 연구에서는 캡슐을 함유하는 저점도 고분자 수용액에서 캡슐의 침강과 고분자 수용액의 레올러지 특성간의 상관관계를 살펴보고자 했다. 고분자 수용액의 레올러지 특성은 carbomer (이하 C), acylate/C10-30 alkyl acylate crosspolymer (이하 AC), ammonium acryloyldimethyltautate/VP copolymer (이하 AV) 3종류의 고분자로 조절했으며 실험결과 고분자 C는 가장 적은 함량으로 높은 점증효과를 보였고 고분자 AV는 함량이 $0.35 wt\%$이상인 경우 같은 점도에서 고분자 C보다 높은 항복응력 값을 가졌다. 저점도 고분자 수용액에 대한 실험 결과 점도와 항복응력이 높을수록 캡슐의 침강비가 낮아지는 것으로 나타났다. 또한 shear stress 0.1${\~}$2.0 Pa 범위에서의 점탄성 결과를 분석한 결과 점탄성 역시 높은 값을 가지면 캡슐의 침강비가 작아졌다. 이는 고분자 수용액의 레올러지 특성이 캡슐의 침강비와 강한 상관관계를 가짐을 증명해주는 결과들이다. 고분자 C와 AV를 혼합 사용한 결과 단독 사용 시 보다 캡슐의 침강비가 작아져서 시너지 효과를 확인할 수 있었으며, 이 경우 고분자 수용액의 레올러지 특성과 캡슐의 침강비는 복잡한 상관관계를 나타내었다. 이는 고분자의 구조적인 특성과 고분자 간 상호작용에 의한 영향으로 추정된다.

연도별 가습기 살균제 피해자 분포 고찰 - 폐 손상 중심 - (Distribution of Health Problems Associated with Humidifier Disinfectant by Year)

  • Objectives: Studies are needed to examine the characteristics of health effects reported by people who used humidifier disinfectant (HD), including the distribution of victims. Methods: We analyzed the distribution of health effects including lung injury that were asserted by a total of 699 individuals who registered with the first through third national programs to determine health effects associated with the use of HD. Results: We found that HD-associated lung injury (HDLI) occurred every year from 2002 through 2011, and in 2011 for 37.2% (n=96) of the total of 258 clinically evaluated HDLI victims. More than half of the victims responded that they were victimized between 2010 and 2011. This was consistent among all classifications by sex, age, HD brand and HD chemical ingredient. Conclusion: This study assumed that the major reason for the outbreak of the health effect between 2010 and 2011 could be the variations in concentrations and physical properties related to polyhexamethylene guanidine (PHMG). Further studies are necessary to examine if some factors related to the chemical disinfectants contained in HD brands may have caused the massive outbreak of health effects including HDLI.
