The Study on Eating behavior and Nutrients intake about Seoul, Cheon Nam region. (지역에 따른 섭식태도 및 영양섭취 실태에 관한 조사연구 -서울.전남 일부지역을 중심으로-)

  • This study was attempted to investigate the difference f eating behavior and nutrients intake according to Region. The summarized results are as follows; the economic values were most important scores and highest ranks for most of subjects, followed by health and social. subjects in Cheon Nam consider health values more important than those in Seoul, who consider social values more important than former. Food habits of subjects in both regions belonged to "Fair" group, the score of food habit it in Cheon Nam was higher than those in Seoul. Though Subjects in both regions showed similar in level of nutrients intake, Cheon nam are a little higher than Seoul(average 1~2%). This survey showed the more they concerned with health value, the better food habits and nutrients intake they had. The residents in Cheon Nam regarded health more importantly and had better food habits, and higher standard of nutrients intake than those in Seoul. in Seoul.

Demand for Elderly Food Development: Relation to Oral and Overall Health -Focused on the Elderly Who Are Using Senior Welfare Centers in Seoul- (구강 및 전신 건강 기반 고령자용 식품 개발을 위한 요구도 조사 -서울 일부 지역 복지관 이용 노인을 대상으로-)

  • Oral health is a critical factor for diagnosing overall health, as poor oral health has a negative impact on food intake and results in deterioration of nutritional status. The purpose of this study was to research the needs for food developments for the elderly based on their oral and overall health status. Oral status was significantly associated with self-reported health status, and dry mouth (lack of saliva) especially showed a significant relationship with negative self-perception of both oral and overall health. For both elderly men and women, fish and leafy vegetables were the most preferred side dishes. Bread, rice cake, and beverage-type foods were also preferred for snack development. Disease status of the elderly was significantly related with their preference for food development. For instance, those with diabetes were more likely to ask for anti-diabetic diets. The most important factor for the elderly in choosing food was nutritional balance, and less than 3,000 won was cited as an affordable price. The results could be utilized as basic data to develop foods for the elderly.

Survey on Health-related Factors, Nutrition Knowledge and Food Habits of College Students in Wonju Area (원주지역 대학생의 건강관련요인, 영양지식 및 식습관 조사)

  • Objectives: This study was performed to investigate health-related factors, nutrition knowledge and food habits of college students in Wonju. Methods: A total of 442 (male: 221, female: 221) college students were recruited and a questionnaire-based survey was conducted. The general characteristics, health-related factors, nutrition knowledge, and food habits were investigated and data were analyzed using SPSS WIN (ver 21.0). Results: The body mass index ($22.9kg/m^2$ vs $20.9kg/m^2$, p < 0.001) was significantly higher in the males. The ratio of weight (p < 0.001) was significantly different between males and females. Health-related factor scores 'Exercise (p < 0.001)', 'Number of exercise (p < 0.001)', 'Times of exercise (p < 0.01)', 'Concerns about health (p < 0.05)', 'Health condition (p < 0.001)' were significantly higher in the males. 'Type of exercise (p < 0.001)' was significantly different between males and females. Score on 'Watching TV & computer games (p < 0.01)' was significantly higher in the females. Smoking (p < 0.001) was significantly higher in the males. Type of beverages consumed (p < 0.001) was significantly different between males and females. Nutrition knowledge score (11.8 vs 12.9, p < 0.05) was significantly higher in the females. Scores on 'Iron deficiency is leading to anemia (p < 0.01)' and 'carbonated beverages, such as coke, have no calorie (p< 0.05)' were significantly higher in the females. Food habits score (56.4 vs 53.7, p < 0.01) was significantly higher in the males. Scores on 'I have three meals a day (p < 0.01)', 'I have breakfast regularly (p < 0.001)', 'I have meals on time (p < 0.001)', 'I do exercise every day (p < 0.001)', 'I don't eat junk food often (p < 0.05)', 'I don't eat sweet food often (p < 0.05)', and 'I don't eat out often (p < 0.05)' were significantly higher in the males. Conclusions: Nutritional education for college students is needed in order to improve their health and nutritional education program should be tailored to meet various needs of these students.

A Study on Hazardous Heavy Metal Contents of Lip Cosmetics (립메이크업 제품의 유해 중금속 함량 조사연구)

  • From March to August 2021, a total of 66 lip makeup products were collected from Seoul to measure the contents of lead, arsenic, cadmium, antimony, and nickel, and compared by product type (lip gloss, lip balm and lip tint), production area (domestic and imported), and user (for adults and children). The average metal contents were as follows; 0.284 ㎍/g for lead, 0.020 ㎍/g for arsenic, 0.003 ㎍/g for cadmium, 0.004 ㎍/g for antimony and 0.415 ㎍/g for nickel. The results of lip cosmetics were below the recommended maximums in regulations on safety standards for cosmetics of Ministry of Food and Drug Safety.

Investigation on the Safety of Biodegradable Synthetic Resins for Food (식품용 생분해성 합성수지제의 안전성 조사)

  • In this study, we investigated the migration level of items specified in the Korean Standards and Specifications for Utensils, Containers, and Packages (Ministry of Food and Drug Safety Notification) for 50 utensils and hygiene products made of biodegradable resins. Our results revealed that one Polylactide (PLA) baby tableware contained 20 mg/L in consumption of potassium permanganate, exceeding the standard of 10 mg/L or less. In all other samples, formaldehyde, lead (Pb), and arsenic (As) levels could be considered very safe and remained below the standard. Moreover, we tested the PLA baby tablewares (n = 21) for migration into a food simulant (4% v/v acetic acid) upon repeated elution at 100℃ for 30 min or UV irradiation for 2 h. We detected increased formaldehyde and As amounts at the repeated 100℃ treatment for 30 min compared to those upon repeated UV irradiation. However, the migration level was markedly low under both conditions. Furthermore, the Estimated Daily Intake (EDI) calculated on an infant-to-child basis from the formaldehyde and As migration at 100℃ for 30 min in the PLA sample was at the maximum value, i.e., 6.0×10-4 mg/kg b.w./day and 1.3×10-1 ㎍/kg b.w./day, corresponding to 0.40% and 10.42% of the Tolerable Daily Intake (TDI, 0.15 mg/kg b.w./day) and Provisional Tolerable Weekly Intake (PTWI, 9.0 ㎍/kg b.w./week), respectively. Therefore, in this study, we confirmed that biodegradable synthetic resins are safe to use for food.
