The subjects were comprised of 243 elderly aged 65 years or over living in 3 large cities. The instruments used for this study were a health promoting lifestyle, perceived health status, geriatric depression short form scale-Korea, social support scale, and self-efficacy. The data was analyzed using SPSS Win 12.0. Result: Powerful predictors of a health promoting lifestyle were depression, self-efficacy, and perceived health status for the elderly living at home. In the cases of the elderly living in institutions, a powerful predictor of a health promoting lifestyle was identified as social support. Conclusion: For the operation of long-term care insurance, a service for home care programs is needed for the elderly living at home in order to reduce depression and to increase self-efficacy and perceived health status. In addition, social support provided by health-care professionals should be developed to promote a healthy lifestyle for the elderly living in institutional environments.

  • The disease patterns among the Korean was shifted from acute and infectious diseases to chronic diseases. According to the these disease patterns trends, people have concerned about the health promotion and health behaviors. Pender's(1996) revised health promotion model(HPM) is consist of three categories; Individual characteristics and experiences, Behavior-specific cognitions and affect, behavioral outcome. Of these categories, individual characteristics and experiences, this category of variables is considered to be of biological, psychological and socio-cultural personal factors, especially, individual fatigue. Futhermore. these variables constitute a critical core for nursing intervention, as they are subject to modification through nursing actions. But there is no few the research of the relationship between the fatigue and health promotion. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to investigate the correlation between the fatigue and health promoting life style among a rural college students. Additionally, this descriptive correlational study identified the relation of demographic factors and fatigue, health promoting life style. From June 20 to 26, 1998, a convenience sample of 270 college students completed the questionnaire of the fatigue and health promoting life style profile which were developed by the Yoshitake(1978) and Walker, et al.(1987), respectively. The descriptive correlational statistics, mean, t-test, ANONA, Pearson correlation coefficient were used to analyze the data gathered with SAS pc+ program. The results were as it follows: 1. The average fatigue score of the subjects was $64.93{\pm}12.89$. Fatigue scores by subcategory were physical symptoms($23.5{\pm}4.87$). psychological symptoms($22.11{\pm}4.66$) and neuro-sensory symptoms($19.32{\pm}5.14$). With the respect to the demographic characteristics of the subjects, there were statistically significant differences between the demographic factors and fatigue, especially, sex(t==3.69 p<0.01), major(t=-2.89 p<0.01). the experience of family illness(t=2.76 p<0.01). 2. The average health promoting life style item score of the subjects was $2.33{\pm}0.33$. In the subcategories, the highest degree of performance was self-actualization(2.94), following interpersonal support(2.81). stress management(2.33), exercise(2.20), nutrition(2.10), and the lowest degree was health responsibility(1.73). There were the significant differences on the learning of health education(t=2.00 p<0.01). religion(F=3.01, p<0.05), circle activity(t=2.07, p<0.05), nutrition control(t=5.25, p<0.01) of demographical factors with the health promoting life style. 3. The correlation between the fatigue and health promoting life style made statistically no significance(r=-0.09731, p>0.05). But there was negative significant relationship between health promoting life style and psychological symptom as a fatigue subcategory(r=-0.15721, p<0.05). The self-actualization showed negative significant correlation with all fatigue subcategory. The health responsibility showed significant relationship with total fatigue(r=0.13050. p<0.05). For further research, it suggests to replicate the correlational and causal study between the fatigue and the health promoting life style using the another fatigue scale which is able to measure the subjective and objective fatigue degree. And it needs to develop the nursing intervention program for maintaining and promoting the health behavior as well as for decreasing the college students's fatigue.

  • This study aimed to examine bone health awareness and knowledge and the bone mass-improving behaviors of female nursing college students. The subjects were 172 nursing students attending nursing colleges. The data were collected from March 16 to April 4, 2020, by using bone health awareness, bone health knowledge, and bone mass-promoting behavior assessment tools. Descriptive statistics are presented, and t-tests, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation, and multi-regressions were used for data analysis. Students' bone health awareness was 1.79, bone health knowledge was 8.86, and bone mass-promoting behavior level was 2.78. There were significant negative correlations between bone mass-promoting behavior level and age of menarche (r = 0.21, p = .004) and sun exposure (r = 0.44, p < .000). Also, bone mass-promoting behavior level and knowledge of bone health were negatively correlated (r = 0.21, p = .005). Regression analysis showed that knowledge of bone health (β = 0.21, p = .005), age of menarche (β = 0.20, p = .005), and sun exposure (β = 0.38, p < .000) were significant predictors of bone mass-promoting behaviors and their variance explanation power was 20.6%. Based on these results, education to improve knowledge of bone health will help to improve bone health and increase bone mass-promoting behaviors among young women.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to assess the relationship between menopausal symptoms and decline in cognitive functioning of menopausal women with mediating effects of health promoting behavior. Methods: Using a convenience sampling, 140 menopausal women were recruited for the cross-sectional survey. Data were collected by using the Menopause Rating Scale, Health Promoting Lifestyle Profile, Everyday Cognition, and Korean Mini-Mental State Examination. Health promotion behavior was directly affected by menopausal symptom ($R^2=8%$). Cognitive decline was directly affected by menopausal symptom ($R^2=11%$). Menopausal symptom (${\beta}=.33$, p<.001) and health promotion behavior (${\beta}=.21$, p=.014) were found to be predictive factors in subjective cognitive decline and explained 14%. Health promotion behavior had a partial mediating effect in the relationship between menopausal symptom and perceived cognitive decline (Sobel test: Z=2.05, p=.040). Conclusion: Based on the findings of this study, developing nursing intervention programs focusing on decreasing menopausal symptoms and encouraging health promotion behavior are recommended to improve cognitive decline in menopausal women.

  • Purpose: This study was done to examine the effects of a Program Promoting Efficacy Expectation, as to whether the program improved self-efficacy, health promotion behavior and quality of life for rural middle-aged women. The program was based on Bandura's self-efficacy theory and Pender's health promoting behavior theory. Method: The research design was a quasi experimental, nonequivalent control group pretest-posttest design. Data were collected from August 25 to December 7, 2000. The participants were 40 to 59 year old women who resided on Je-ju island. Among the 83 participants, 43 were assigned to experimental group and the rest to the control group. Results: The level of self efficacy and the degree of health promoting behavior of participants in the experimental group was higher than those in the control group (t=12.82, p=0.0001; t=14.13, p=0.0001). Also, the level of quality of life in the experimental group was higher than that of the control group (t=12.02, p=0.0001). Conclusion: The Efficacy Expectation Promotion Program was an effective nursing intervention for improving self-efficacy, health promotion behavior and quality of life. Therefore, when nurses are planning programs directed at improving health promotion behavior in rural middle aged women, they should consider the concept of self-efficacy.

Factors impacting the PTG of gynecologic oncology women undergoing chemotherapy were age, recurrence, family support, sexual distress, and health promoting behavior. These factors accounted for 47.0% of PTG. Conclusion: It is necessary to develop and apply programs that include sexual distress management education, and health promotion with families. PTG programs for gynecologic oncology patients undergoing chemotherapy should be approached considering these results.
