표준 머리전달함수 추출 기법에 관한 연구 (Research on methods to extract standard head-related transfer function)

  • Researches on three-dimensional multimedia has been performed actively in recent years. Virtual sound technology corresponding to virtual image should be provided to implement 3D multimedia with high quality. Head-related transfer function (HRTF) plays a key role in this research area. HRTFs measured in changing azimuth, elevation, and distance for each and every subject is necessary for ideal solution. However, it is practically impossible to measure all subjects' HRTFs, so various HRTF databases have been built by many researchers. Because HRTF displays quite different aspects from subject to subject, HRTF of dummy head has been used for generic usage. However, mannequin's HRTF showed much worse performance comparing with individual case so this solution should be improved. From previous work, standardization of HRTF based on tensor-singular value decomposition method has been proposed. For effective extraction of standard HRTF, three different decomposition methods are compared in this paper.

  • When we render 3D sound images using headphones or speakers, the main key of this technology is the Head-related transfer function (HRTF) database. Even though there are various HRTF databases, they have some drawbacks such as detrimental effects caused by imperfect measuring environment and insufficient measurement points. Moreover there is no database with Korean subjects. We are planning to develop the HRTF database for Korean. As a first step to establish the HRTF database aimed at Korean, the new HRTF measurement system with minimized aforementioned drawbacks is designed. In this paper, the newly designed HRTF measurement system is introduced and the overall effects caused by the diffraction of the apparatus, especially the headrest and backrest of the chair, are analyzed. The backrest of the chair does not distort the HRTFs significantly while the headrest makes significant distortion on the HRTFs and it could have significant effects on directional perception. We determined acceptable head rotation angle and head position of the subject for accurate HRTF measurement based on the experiments with B&K HATS. We conclude that the 3 degrees of the head rotation and the 1.5cm front/back/left/right shift of the head do not distort the HRTFs significantly.

한국인 평균 두형 실험더미의 제작과 머리전달함수의 측정 (Development of Experimental Dummy and Measurements of Head-Related Transfer Functions (HRTF) for Averaged Korean Head Shape)

  • Based on the averaged Korean head shapes that are the results of digital Korean project by KISTI and Catholic university, experimental apparatus of head dummies of Korean male and female are developed in order to measure head-related transfer functions (HRTF) by using a reverse engineering and rapid prototyping techniques. For the Korean dummies, HRTFs are measured using the substitution method over 12 kHz frequency bands. At every azimuth angle $15^{\circ}$ HRTFs are measured for elevation angles $-30^{\circ}$, $0^{\circ}$, and $30^{\circ}$. The measured HRTFs are compared with those of KEMAR (Knowles Electronic Manikin for Acoustic Research) dummy head, which shows a little different frequency characteristic beyond 2 kHz frequency band.

  • Because individual HRTFs (Head-Related Transfer Functions) vary from a person to a person, a HRTF database has been measured by researchers to investigate the inter-subject variation, and to generate high fidelity virtual sound image. Individual HRTFs not only vary between subjects but also vary due to wearing clothes and glasses in daily life. However, influence of different dressing condition on the measured HRTF was not sufficiently investigated. To quantify the effect of wearing clothes and glasses, dummy's HRTF is measured in an anechoic chamber with various dressing condition, and is evaluated in the sense of spectral distortion. HRTFs are measured both in the median plane and in the horizontal plane. In the median plane, under 6kHz, effect of different wearing clothes and glasses is negligible. Over 6kHz, however, effect of clothing distorts HRTF about 6dB in the sense of spectral distortion. Moreover, at high frequencies, effect of glasses is no longer negligible. In the horizontal plane, at some azimuths, even additional light cloth over the dummy can change the spectrum of HRTF (6dB spectral distortion) especially when sound source is at contralateral positions. Therefore, HRTF measurement with different wearing conditions can broaden the capability of HRTF customization whose technique utilizes a HRTF database.

고역 주파수 영역에서 HRTF의 간략화에 관한 연구 (A study on the simplification of HRTF within high frequency region)

  • 본 연구에서는 머리전달함수(Head-Related Transfer Function : HRTF) 고역 주파수 영역에서의 간략화가 음상정위에 미치는 영향에 관하여 검토하였다. 이를 위해 HRTF를 측정하였으며 측정한 HRTF에 대하여 분석한 결과, 음원 반대편(음원에서 멀리 떨어진 귀)의 HRTF 고역 주파수 특성은 회절의 성질을 고려하면 머리에 의해 거의 감쇄가 된다. 이와 같이 감쇄된 주파수 영역에 대해서는 정위에 미치지 않는다고 가정하면 간략화가 가능하다. 간략화는 경계 주파수를 차단 주파수로 하는 지역통과 필터를 삽입하여 고역의 주파수 진폭특성을 평탄하게 함으로서 간략화를 하였다. 간략화를 한 HRTF를 평가하기 위하여 청취실험을 하였다. 청취실험의 결과, 정위오차에 대해서는 HRTF의 주파수 특성을 간략화 하여도 방향 지각에 영향이 없다는 것이 나타났다. 전후 혼란율에 대해서는 HRTF의 8kHz 이상의 주파수 특성을 간략화 하여도 영향이 없음이 나타났다. 최종적으로는 HRTF의 8kHz 이상의 주파수 특성에 본 연구의 간략화를 적용하여도 음상정위에 영향을 미치지 않는다는 것이 나타났다.

선추적공식을 이용한 머리전달함수의 회전타원체 형상 모델링 (A prolate spheroidal head modeling of head related transfer function based on ray tracing formula)

  • To customize individual characteristics of HRTF, a spherical model has been used for structural modeling technique. A pseudo-code of prolate spheroidal HRTF caused by incident acoustic point source is already developed, and it can be used a head shadow filter for structural modeling of HRTF. In this research, to see the necessity and efficiency of spheroidal head modeling, ITD optimization is performed on CIPIC HRTF database. From given cost function, ITD-optimized spheroidal head model, whose ITD information is the most matched version of measured ITD information, is found by varying head parameters subject by subject. By comparing results of ITD-optimized spheroids and ITD-optimized spheres, we concluded that a spherical head model is more efficient way of generating head shadow effect than a spheroidal head model does.

  • 머리관련 전달함수는 음원으로부터 이도의 입구까지 소리의 전달함수로 인간이 소리의 위치를 판단하는 데 중요한 역할을 하는 함수이다. HRTF 는 개인간의 편차가 크게 나는 것으로 알려져 있다. 본 논문에서는 한국인의 평균두형에 관해서 HRTF 를 해석하는 경계요소해석 모델을 개발하고 해석 결과와 실험결과와의 비교를 통해서 모델을 검증하였다. 또한 특정 성인에 대하여 CT 촬영을 통하여 두형, 귓바퀴 및 이도의 형상을 획득하여 이를 바탕으로 이도 내의 음향응답을 전 가청주파수에서 해석할 수 있는 모델을 개발하고 실험과의 비교를 통하여 모델을 검증하였다. 개발된 모델을 이용, 경계요소 해석을 수행하고 한국인 HRTF 의 특성에 영향을 미치는 인자를 살펴보았다.

  • 시스템공학연구소 감성공학연구부에서는 수행중인 "멀티미디어 컨텐트용 입체음향처리 S/W개발"과제의 일환으로 머리전달함수(Head-Related Transfer Function, HRTF)의 측정을 수행하였다. 본 논문에서는 무향실에서의 HRTF 데이터 측정 과정 및 얻어진 HRTF들에 대한 음상정위청취 평가 결과에 대해 설명한다. 청취 평가에서는 피험자들이 측정된 HRTF와 MIT Media Lab의 KEMAR 더미헤드 HRTF를 사용하여 각 방향에 대해 필터링된 음원을 듣고 음상정위 주관평가를 시행하였는에, 측정된 HRTF를 사용하여 양호한 음상정위 결과를 얻을 수 있음을 확인하였다.있음을 확인하였다.

  • 이 연구에서는, 반사 음파 전달 특성에 의한 공간감 효과를 이용하여 음상 정위를 개선할 수 있는 HRTF 모델링 방법을 제안하였다. 실험 결과, 최적으로 평가된 반사 음파 전달 특성을 갖는 HRTF 모델은, 직접 음파 전달 특성만으로 구성된 HRTF 모델과 비교하여 음상 전위가 약 23% 이상 개선되었다. 그리고, 적절한 공간감이 음상 정위의 정확도를 증가시킬 수 있는 요소임을 알았다.
