  • Radiation therapy is one of the beneficial choices in the treatment of cancer. This is a comparison of TPS(Treatment Planning System) and GEANT4-DICOM, which should be preceded by the best radiation therapy. A treatment plan for prostate cancer was established with Eclipse and the point doses 366.1 cGy, 189.1 cGy, 213.4 cGy, 127 cGy, 105.7 cGy of any five prostate, bladder, rectum, right femoral head and left femoral head were identified. GEANT4-DICOM simulation showed that the results of Eclipse and ${\pm}2%$ dose error were confirmed. The monthly X-ray output agreement management value recommended by TG-142 is ${\pm}2%$, which means that the experimental results can be meaningful. In conclusion, GEANT4-DICOM is an infinite way to obtain more extended dose information once the time constraints are overcome in the simulation.

  • Purpose: The relationship between computed tomography (CT) number and electron density (ED) has been investigated in previous studies. However, the role of these measures for guiding cancer treatment remains unclear. Methods: The CT number was plotted against ED for different imaging protocols. The CT number was imported into ED tables for the Pinnacle treatment planning system (TPS) and was used to determine the effect on dose calculations. Conversion tables for radiation dose calculations were generated and subsequently monitored using a dosimeter to determine the effect of different CT scanning protocols and treatment sites. These tables were used to retrospectively recalculate the radiation therapy plans for 41 patients after an incorrect scanning protocol was inadvertently used. The gamma index was further used to assess the dose distribution, percentage dose difference (DD), and distance-to-agreement (DTA). Results: For densities <1.1 g/cm3, the standard deviation of the CT number was ±0.6% and the greatest variation was noted for brain protocol conditions. For densities >1.1 g/cm3, the standard deviation of the CT number was ±21.2% and the greatest variation occurred for the tube voltage and head and neck (H&N) protocol conditions. These findings suggest that the factors most affecting the CT number are the tube voltage and treatment site (brain and H&N). Gamma index analyses for the 41 retrospective clinical cases, as well as brain metastases and H&N tumors, showed gamma passing rates >90% and <90% for the passing criterion of 2%/2 and 1%/1 mm, respectively. Conclusions: The CT protocol should be carefully decided for TPS. The correct protocol should be used for the corresponding TPS based on the treatment site because this especially affects the dose distribution for brain metastases and H&N tumor recognition. Such steps could help reduce systematic errors.

  • Based on combined continuum-fracture mechanics, fracture criterion was utilized to predict impact performance of advanced high-strength steel sheets: 340R and TWIP940. The macro-crack propagation behavior at high stress triaxiality was characterized by V-notch tests while deformation behavior at high strain rate was characterized by simple tension tests with various cross head speeds. The characterized mechanical properties were incorporated into the FE program ABAQUS/Explicit to simulate the charpy impact tests, which showed good agreement with experiments.

  • The operation Move is defined in Chomsky (1999, 2000) as a composite operation consisting of three components: Agree, Identify and Merge, taking Agree as a necessary condition for Move. Therefore, I call this definition of Move as the Agree-based Move. In this paper, I argue that the Agree-based approach to Move cannot be maintained; I claim that the Selection-based approach to Move, in which the EPP-feature is analyzed as an s-selectional property of a head, offers a more natural account of the sentences under consideration. I believe that the three components of Move as defined in (6) happen to co-occur in the derivation of certain sentences, as the composite transformation called Passivization does in the derivation of a passive sentence like “the city was destroyed by the enemy.” On the basis of these observations, I conclude that Agree and Move should be regarded as separate computational operations; the task of Agree is to erase uninterpretable features of both probe and goal, and that of Move is to satisfy the EPP-feature, which should be taken as an s-selectional feature.

  • A measurement system of contact force between overhead contact line and pantograph of train is developed which measures the contact force by using four sets of full-bridge strain gauges instead of load cells and accelerometers. The sensors are installed on the pan head of pantograph and the measured data from the sensors are transmitted to a server system in the train by way of wireless Lan. This configuration of the measuring system makes it easy to install on the trains without any alteration of train system. The measurement system is applied to KTX on the Kyungbu high speed line, and the measured contact force data shows good agreement with those measured by load cell and accelerometers. The waveform of the contact force between overhead contact line and pantograph contains essential information about their conditions. The proposed measurement system can probe any defects on overhead contact lines with train running at high speed, which will be a powerful solution for the maintenance of long-distance overhead contact lines.

  • The present paper will argue what can be considered to be principled elements of the initial state S/sub 0/ of the Faculty of Language, which are called the Interface Condition (IC), and how far we can take the strongest minimalist thesis (SMT), which aims to offer principled explanation of language in terms of IC and the principle of efficient computation, to linguistic analysis. We will discuss implications of label-free phrase structures, required by the strong version of the Inclusiveness Condition, and possibilities of crash-free syntax, required by the condition of efficient computation. I will point out problems of Chomsky's assumption that an externally Merged expletive there is a head, which, as a probe, undergoes agreement with the goal T. I will present several advantages we obtain if we maintain A and A' distinction, and assume that wh-movement to the outer [SPEC, υ] is an A'-movement like wh-movement to [SPEC, C].

  • The present study focuses on the flow analysis of a turbopump inducer by performing both numerical and experimental methods. The head rise, efficiency and detailed flow fields such as outlet flow angles, pressure and velocity vectors are measured and compared with the computational data. Generally a good agreement is obtained between numerical and experimental results. However, some discrepancies are observed due to complex flow structures inside the inducer. Future calculations with an advanced turbulence model and a dense computational grid needs to be performed to obtain accurate numerical solution for the detailed flow fields.

  • With the objective of studying the response of brain tissue in a transient rotational acceleration of the head, as occurs in car crash, the problem of a cylindrical case containing a prototype brain material of silicone gel and subjected to a rotational acceleration around the axis of the cylinder is analysed. The prototype material is considered to be homogeneous and isotropic, and is modeled alternatively as a linear elastic or a linear viscoelastic solid. The computational model for the present problem consists of a 3-dimensional isoparametric finite element model, wherein large deformations and large strains are treated through the updated Lagrangian approach. A comparison of the results of the present 3-dimensional computations, with the attendant assumptions on material data, is made with the results of independent experimental study. The deformation profiles and the major characteristics of response of the brain material are in good agreement with the test results. Moreover, the study suggests the possibility that the use of more accurate material data may yield very useful results even appropriate for accurate quantification of deformations.

  • In this study, three-dimensional heat flow in laser beam welding for deep penetration was analyzed by using F.E.M common code, and then the results were compared with the experimental data. The models for analysis are full penetration welds and are made at three different laser powers (6, 9.9, 4.5 kW) with two different welding speeds (5.8mm/s, 5mm/s). The characteristics of thermal absorption by the workpiece during deep penetration laser welding can be represented by a combination of line heat source through the workpiece and distributed heat source at the top surface due to the plasma plume above the top surface. This gives an insight into the way in which the beam interacts with the material being welded. The analyses performed with the combined heat source models show comparatively good agreement between the experimental and calculated melt temperature isotherm, i.e, the fusion zone boundary. The results are used to explain the "nail head" appearance of fusion zone, which is quite common in laser beam welds.eam welds.

  • The surging stresses of the valve spring of over head valve 4 cycle engine, which is made is Korea, were computed from theoretical analysis and these values were compared with the experimental results. For calculating surging stresses of test engine valve spring. Kato's equation should be corrected by the corretion factor C which is equal to twice rocker arm level ratio. Good agreement was found to exist between the theoretical analysis and the experimental results within.+-.5 percent differences. The stress amplitudes of test valve spring at each harmonic order were determined by the experiment and by using corrected equation, The safety considerations of test valve spring were discussed.
