Eight rabbits exhibited head tilt and subsequently died. At necropsy, three rabbits had crusty deposits in ears and four had reddish lungs. The main histopathological features were severe diffuse suppurative meningoencephalitis (75.0% of rabbits), fibrinopurulent pneumonia (37.5%), and otitis externa (37.5%). Pasteurella multocida (P. multocida) was isolated from brains, ears, and lungs. The capsular serogroups of the isolates were untypable. Based on histopathological features and bacterial analysis results, the rabbits were diagnosed as P. multocida infection. P. multocida infections might result in considerable economic loss in commercial rabbit production facilities in Korea.

A lot of information storage devices have been introduced and developed for recently years. The trends of those devices are high capacity, compact size, low power consumption, reliability, and removability for data interchange with other device. As a satisfaction of these trends, near-field technique is in the spotlight as the next generation device. In order for a near-field recording to be successfully implemented in the storage device, a slider and suspension is introduced as actuating mechanism. The optical slider is designed considering near-filed optics. Suspension is not only supports slider performance, and tracking servo capacity but also meets the optical characteristics such as tilt aberration, and guarantee to satisfy shock performances for the mobility fir the actuator. In this study, the optical slider and the suspension for near-field probe array are designed and analyzed considering dynamic performance of head-gimbal assembly and shock simulation..
The purpose of this study is to compare the outcomes of manual stretching treatment with those of motor development and positioning physical therapy (MDPPT) for congenital muscular torticollis (CMT). This study was designed to be randomized controlled trials and to evaluate the outcomes of 43 consecutive patients with CMT who were first seen when they were average 26 days old. Before treatments, the patients were unintentionallv classified into two clinical groups along with the treatment methods. Among the 43 patients, 22 were classified to the manual stretching group and 21 to the MDPPT group. By means of independent t-test on the result. the duration of treatment according to methods was not significantly different in two groups (p>.05). The duration of treatment in accordance with head tilt level was not significantly different in two groups (p>.05). There was change of mass diameter, between at the beginning day of treatment and after treatment in manual stretching group with a strong positive linear correlation (p=.000, r=.734), but slightly positive linear correlation in MDPPT group. The result of this study indicates that two therapeutic methods make little difference in effectiveness.
Vertigo and dizziness are common symptoms with various etiologies and pathogeneses. Vertigo is an illusion of motion due to disease of the vestibular system, usually a sense of rotation. Dizziness, a term that represents a wide range of non-vertigo symptoms, is commonly associated with non-vestibular disorders including old age, cardiac syncope, orthostatic hypotension, metabolic disease, anxiety, and drugs. Vertigo should be determined whether the cause is central or peripheral. Peripheral vertigo is usually benign but central vertigo is serious and often require urgent treatment. The careful history and detailed physical examinations(pattern of nystagmus, ocular tilt reaction, head impulse test and positional tests such as Dix-Hallpike maneuver) provide important clues to the diagnosis of vertigo. Most of patients have benign peripheral vestibular disorders - vestibular neuritis, benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV), and Meniere's disease. BPPV is a leading cause of peripheral vertigo and can easily be cured with a canalith repositioning maneuver. In this review, a focus is on the differential diagnosis of common vestibular disorders with peripheral and central causes.
A 10-year-old male Schnauzer dog presented with a 1-week history of ataxia, right-sided hemiparesis, and right-sided head tilt. On the basis of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) with neurological examination and cerebrospinal fluid analysis results, a primary brain tumor was suspected. Therapy with imatinib mesylate plus hydroxyurea for 7 weeks was not effective and clinical signs worsened. Chemotherapy was then changed to lomustine plus hydroxyurea. Although the existing clinical signs continued, they did not deteriorate. No change in mass size was observed in subsequent MRI. The subject suddenly died from dyspnea 388 days after initial presentation. In this case, choroid plexus papilloma was definitively diagnosed based on histopathological findings.
Background: Postural tachycardia syndrome (POTS) refers to the presence of orthostatic intolerance symptoms associated with a heart rate increment of greater than 30 beats/min, usually up to 120 beats/min, on head-up tilt test. Symptoms related to POTS are usually light-headedness, palpitations and tremor, but syncope can also occur. The pathophysiology of POTS is heterogeneous and its prognosis is uncertain. Methods: We prospectively evaluated patients who met the criteria for POTS, at baseline and follow-up, using composite autonomic symptom scores and autonomic tests to assess the autonomic function. We compared the clinical and autonomic test results between baseline and follow-up. Results: Sixty-eight patients met the inclusion criteria for POTS and forty-five patients were ultimately followed up for at least 1 year after baseline. The patients were predominantly young females (84%), with a mean age of 21 years. Most patients showed improved orthostatic symptoms and more than a quarter of patients had no longer met the criteria for POTS at follow-up. Conclusions: Most patients had a benign outcome in that they could resume their daily activities without great limitations. Our results demonstrated a relatively favorable prognosis in most patients with POTS.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation (PNF) abdominal muscle strengthening exercise on the activity, posture, and body function of clients with abdominal muscle weakness after cesarean section. Methods: PNF abdominal muscle strengthening exercise was applied to one patient with abdominal muscle weakness after cesarean section. PNF abdominal muscle strengthening exercise was applied five times a week for four weeks. The 5-time supine-to-long sitting test (5-TSLST) and supine-to-stand test (SST) were used to measure activity, and the pelvis tilt angle test (PTAT) and anterior head translation test (AHTT) were used to measure posture. Body function was assessed using the transverse abdominis muscle strength test (TAMST), the internal oblique and external oblique muscle strength test (IOEOMST), and the rectus abdominis muscle strength test (RAMST). Results: Activity, posture, and body function were improved post-intervention. Conclusion: The study verified that PNF abdominal muscle strengthening exercises are effective when applied to patients with abdominal muscle weakness after cesarean section. The findings of this study provide useful data for future interventions in patients with abdominal muscle weakness after cesarean section.

Recently, the research on renewable energy against depletion of fossil fuel have been actively carried out in the world. Especially, offshore wind turbines are very economical and innovative technology. However, offshore wind turbines experience large base moments due to the wind and wave loading, so the monopile with large diameter needs to be applied. For the economical design of the large diameter pile, it is important to consider the flexibility of the foundation to estimate the maximum moment accurately, based on studies conducted so far. In this paper, the foundation was modeled using the finite element method in order to better describe the large diameter effect of a monopile and the results were compared with those of p-y method. For the examples studied in this paper, the change in maximum moment was insignificant, but the maximum tilt angle from the finite element method was over 14% larger than that of p-y method. Therefore, the finite element approach is recommended to model the flexibility effect of the pile when large tilt angles may cause serviceability issues.
Purpose: To report a case of trochlear nerve palsy caused by quadrigeminal cistern lipoma located in the dorsal midbrain. Case summary: A 65-year-old male visited our clinic for intermittent vertical diplopia over 2-year period. Symptoms of diplopia had worsened over the past two weeks. He had no previous medical history except having had diabetes for 1 month. The best-corrected visual acuity was 20/25 in the right eye and 20/20 in the left eye. Pupillary examination was not remarkable. Extraocular examination showed 4 prism diopters (PD) left hypertropia at distant gaze and 4 PD exotropia at near gaze, with adduction elevation of the left eye. The Bielschowsky head tilt test revealed 6 PD left hypertropia on the left gaze and orthotropia on the right tilt. Fundus examination showed excyclotorsion of the right eye and incyclotorsion of the left eye. Brain magnetic resonance imaging revealed quadrigeminal cistern lipoma. Prism glasses were prescribed to alleviate diplopia, and we followed up the lesions without further treatment. Conclusions: Trochlear nerve palsy can be caused by quadrigeminal cistern lipoma; however, it is uncommon for this condition to be caused by a compressive lesion. Prompt neuroimaging can be helpful to rule out the causes of this condition in patients with atypical symptoms.

In this paper, we propose a two-stage head tracking algorithm adequate for real-time active camera system having pan-tilt-zoom functions. In the color convergence stage, we first assume that the shape of a head is an ellipse and its model color histogram is acquired in advance. Then, the min-shift method is applied to roughly estimate a target position by examining the histogram similarity of the model and a candidate ellipse. To reflect the temporal change of object color and enhance the reliability of mean-shift based tracking, the target histogram obtained in the previous frame is considered to update the model histogram. In the updating process, to alleviate error-accumulation due to outliers in the target ellipse of the previous frame, the target histogram in the previous frame is obtained within an ellipse adaptively shrunken on the basis of the model histogram. In addition, to enhance tracking reliability further, we set the initial position closer to the true position by compensating the global motion, which is rapidly estimated on the basis of two 1-D projection datasets. In the subsequent stage, we refine the position and size of the ellipse obtained in the first stage by using shape information. Here, we define a robust shape-similarity function based on the gradient direction. Extensive experimental results proved that the proposed algorithm performs head hacking well, even when a person moves fast, the head size changes drastically, or the background has many clusters and distracting colors. Also, the propose algorithm can perform tracking with the processing speed of about 30 fps on a standard PC.
