케비테이션 제트 유동을 이용한 발전 시스템 (A Power-Generation System using Cavitation jet flow)

  • Cavitation phenomenon has long been a difficult problem that regarded as negative event to fluid machines or industrial facilities. In the latest, however, some engineers became to understand the power of cavitation and use it to cleaning wall after developing cavitation nozzle. In this paper, we introduce new concept for power-generation system using cavitation jet flow maid by nozzle and impulse turbine in vacuum condition. The vacuum needed to make cavitation is generated naturally by Torricelli's vacuum, 10.23m effective head drop without additional power. We analyzed water's boiling and the steam's mean free path according to vacuum purity levels for nozzles and turbine blades. The nozzles make water accelerate in the neck and boil in expansion section of the nozzles. The shape of the impulse turbine is designed for absorption of the molecule's kinetic energy of the steam.

  • The freshwater goby, Micropercops swinhonis ($G\"{u}nther$) was studied on the spawning behavior and egg develeopment at the two areas of Chollabukdo, Korea from March to May 1995. Egg mass attached to a layer under stones and the inner wall of waterplant, Cyperus. Spawning behavior was divided in to 1) premating stage: selecting spawning sites and formation of territory by male, 2) mating stage: enticement with zigzag-like dance and intermittant shaking of head by male and fertilization, 3) postmating stage: fanning, guarding and cleaning the nest by male. The eggs were transparent and spherical in shape, measuring $0.9\times1.4mm$ with yellowish yolk sac and many oil globules. Hatching began in about ten days after fertilization at water temperature $16~20^{\circ}C$. The newly hatched larvae were 3.8~4.0 mm in total length with 30 myomeres and their mouths and anuses were opened. Melanophores appeared at the air-bladder and the ventral side of caudal region.gion.

Bithyniidae과 패류 치설의 미세구조에 관한 연구 (Ultrastructural Study on the Radulae of Bithyniid Snails (Mollusca: Prosobranehia))

  • The radulae of six species of bithyniid snails, Bithynia striatula, B. tentaculate, B. siamensis, B. leachi, Gabbia misella and G. australis, were observed by SEM. The radular formula of all the bithyniids studied was 2 : 1 : 1 : 1 : 2. The all teeth were multicuspid and the central teeth had numerous basal denticles. The mesocones of the central and lateral teeth were spade or arrow-head shape. The mesocones of the central teeth and the lateral teeth of B. leachi, G. misella and G. australis were slightly larger than the other cusps in contrast of those of the other species. Number of cusp was varied by the specimen and the species.

The Role of the Cricopharyngeus Muscle in Pitch Control - Electromyographic and radiographic studies

  • Electromyographic studies of the cricopharyngeus muscle using hooked wire electrodes were performed in thyroidectomized patients. The shape of the cricoid cartilage and soft tissue thickness in the postcricoid area were evaluated during pitch elevation and pitch lowering using conventional neck lateral films. The cricopharyngeus muscle simultaneously activated in the initial task of speech and continuously activated. Its activity lessened in the interrogative stress contrast of sentence terminals and increased in the pitch lowered contrast of sentence terminal. On the radiologic findings the cricoid cartilage was tilted backward during high pitched phonation and tilted forward during low pitched phonation. The soft tissue thickness of postcricoid area was thicker at the low pitch than at high pitch. At low pitch the cricoid cartilage paralleled along the vertebral column. This result suggests that the bulging of cricopharyngeus muscle in contraction induce a thickened the postcricoid area thickened, and exert pressure anteriorly exerted on the cricoid cartilage. This contraction of the cricopharyngeus muscle may result in shortening the vocal fold and lowering pitch.

정상상태인 박용 TP620 익형의 경계층 특성 연구 (A study on the boundary layer characteristics of TP620 hydrofoil in the steady state)

  • This report deals with a study on the boundary layer characteristics of TP620 hydrofoil in the steady state by using two dimensional boundary layer theory. On the basis of complex velocity and laminar and turbulent boundary layer theory, the author attempts to know some tendency by evaluating the performance characteristic values of TP620 hydrofoil working in a uniform flow. In deriving characteristic values, he calculates numerically velocity, momentum thickness, skin friction coefficient, shape factor, and displacement thickness on the TP620 hydrofoil working at each attack angle in a uniform flow. Applying this present numerical calculation using Thwaites' and Head's method, the results of boundary layer on the hydrofoil are shown to be influenced by surface velocity and attack angle.

실린더 라이너 오일그루브 가공 로봇 시스템 개발 (Development of a Grinding Robot System for the Engine Cylinder Liner's Oil Groove)

  • An engine for marine propulsion and power generation consists of several cylinder liner-piston sets. And the oil groove is on the cylinder liner inside wall for the lubrication between a piston and cylinder. The machining process of oil groove has been carried by manual work so far, because of the diversity of the shape. Recently, we developed an automatic grinding robot system for oil groove machining of engine cylinder liners. It can covers various types of oil grooves and adjust its position by itself. The grinding robot system consists of a robot, a machining tool head, sensors and a control system. The robot automatically recognizes the cylinder liner's inside configuration by using a laser displacement sensor and a vision sensor after the cylinder liner is placed on a set-up equipment.

Rail Inspection Using Noncontact Laser Ultrasonics

  • In this study, a noncontact laser ultrasonic system is proposed for rail defect detection. An Nd-Yag pulse laser is used for generation of ultrasonic waves, and the corresponding ultrasonic responses are measured by a laser Doppler vibrometer. For the detection of rail surface damages, the shape of the excitation laser beam is transformed into a line. On the other hand, a point source laser beam is used for the inspection of defects inside a rail head. Then, the interactions of propagating ultrasonic waves with defects are examined using actual rail specimens. Amplitude attenuation was mainly observed for a surface crack, and reflections were most noticeable from an internal damage. Finally, opportunities and challenges associated with real-time rail inspection from a high-speed train are discussed.

도형을 그리는 소리: 소리를 이용한 형태정보의 전달 가능성 탐색 (Auditory shaping _Conveying shape information using auditory images)

  • 시각적인 정보전달이 어려운 상황에서의 대상인식, 혹은 시각장애인의 대상인식에 있어서 소리는 어느 정도의 역할을 할 수 있을까? 이 연구는 소리를 통해 대상의 형태정보를 전달하기 위해 진행되었다. 하나의 음(musical tone)을 음높이와 음색, 지속시간을 조정한 후, 머리전달함수(Head-Related Transfer Function: HRTF)를 이용하여 수평선, 수직선, 대각선, 곡선의 형태로 운동하는 3-D 사운드 형태소로 만들었다. 그리고 이들의 연속적인 조합을 통해 단순한 도형에서부터 복잡한 도형, 이들 2차원상의 도형을 단면으로 하는 3차원상의 도형들까지 그려내는 소리자극을 구성하였다. 성인 대학생을 대상으로 한 실험에서, 이렇게 만들어진 청각이미지(auditory image)를 듣고 표상된 형태를 여러 개의 시각적인 이미지들(visual images) 중에서 선택하는 과제를 실시하였는데, 실험 결과는 평균 78%의 정확율을 보였다. 이는 소리를 이용한 형태정보 전달의 가능성이 있음을 시사하는 것이며, 이러한 시도는 청각 인터페이스의 응용범위를 확장하는데 도움이 될 것이다.

  • With a rapid industrialization, repair and strengthening methods for a damaged bridges are raised a head in face of safety and reduction of physical distribution costs of bridges. Above all, external prestressing method has the high adaptability for concrete structures and the reliable effect of strengthening. Innovative ideas for bridges strengthening were considered along with established methods. That methods are identified, described. However there is not a systematic and categorized manual for external prestressing method. This study will provide a systematic and reliable manual with investigating the arrangement shape of cable and characteristics of brackets. And the key result of this study is an extensive compilation, which can be used by practicing engineers, of the most effective techniques for strengthening existing bridges.

2D Computational Analysis of Overtopping Wave Energy Convertor

  • An Overtopping Wave Energy Convertor (OWEC) is an offshore wave energy convertor used for collecting overtopping waves and converting the water pressure head into electric power through hydro turbines installed in a vertical duct affixed to the sea bed. A numerical wave tank based on the commercial computational fluid dynamics code Fluent is established for the corresponding analysis. The Reynolds Averaged Navier-Stokes equation and two-phase VOF model are utilized to generate the 2D numerical linear propagating waves, which are validated by the overtopping experiment results. Calculations are made for several incident wave conditions and shape parameters for the overtopping device. Both the incident wave periods and heights have evident effects on the overtopping performance of the OWEC device. The computational analysis demonstrates that the present overtopping device is more compatible with longer incident wave periods.
