The Korean Pharmaceutical Codex (KPC) analytical method of ambroxol hydrochloride and clenbuterol hydrochloride formulation is complicated and needed to carry out multiple processes during the test. To improve the low efficiency of analytical procedure that makes pharmaceutical laboratory consume much time and high cost to conduct the test of this formulation, this study was performed for simplifying the pretreatment process and optimizing conditions of the HPLC assay. The analytical procedure using HPLC was developed to establish analytical specification for ambroxol hydrochloride and clenbuterol hydrochloride formulations. The newly developed analytical method has good linearity ($R^2$ >0.999), specificity, precision (RSD<1.0%) and the recovery ranges of 98.50~101.84% for ambroxol, 98.29~101.35% for clenbuterol syrup and 98.66~101.71% for clenbuterol tablets. The LOQs were 0.204 ${\mu}g/ml$ for ambroxol, 0.021 ${\mu}g/ml$ for clenbuterol syrup and 0.073 ${\mu}g/ml$ for clenbuterol tablets. The new method was performed with commercially available samples to confirm analytical conditions and validated to be suitable for saving time and cost to control the quality of routine manufactured products. This analytical method will be used for revising the monograph of ambroxol hydrochloride and clenbuterol hydrochloride formulation in next supplement of KPC.
For preventing the accidents generated from the chemical materials, thus far, MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheet) data have been made to notify how to use and manage the hazardous and chemical materials in safety. However, it is difficult for users who handle these materials to understand the MSDS data because they are only listed based on the alphabetical order, not based on the specific factors such as similarity of characteristics. It is limited in representing the types of chemical materials with respect to their characteristics. Thus, in this study, a lots of MSDS data are visualized based on relationships of the characteristics among the chemical materials for supporting safety managers. For this, we used the textmining algorithm which extracts text keywords contained in documents and the Self-Organizing Map (SOM) algorithm which visually addresses textual data information. In the case of Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) in the United States, the guide texts contained in MSDS documents, which include use information such as reactivity and potential risks of materials, are gathered as the target data. First, using the textmining algorithm, the information of chemicals is extracted from these guide texts. Next, the MSDS map is developed using SOM in terms of similarity of text information of chemical materials. The MSDS map is helpful for effectively classifying chemical materials by mapping prohibited and hazardous substances on the developed the SOM map. As a result, using the MSDS map, it is easy for safety managers to detect prohibited and hazardous substances with respect to the Industrial Safety and Health Act standards.
Objectives: Children are exposed to various environmental pollutants through contact with children's products. We investigated the KC mark, certification number, and contained substances labeled on children's products through market research and collected the toxicological data on these substances. Methods: The environmentally hazardous substances labeled on children's products (n=6576), including toys (n=2812), personal care products (n=2212), stationary/books (n=1333), and playground equipment (n=219) were examined. For the components that could be identified by CAS number, toxicological data on oral, inhalation, and dermal routes, cancer slope factor, and reference dose were collected. Results: Among the investigated products, KC marks or certification numbers were found for 4557 products (69.3%). Except for cosmetics and cleansers, the material information was labeled on most of the products. The frequency of labeling substance information in toys and stationary/books was low since this information could be omitted if KC certification was obtained. In the target products, 617 substances were identified by CAS number, and polypropylene, acrylonitrile butadiene styrene, and polyester were the most frequently displayed. Chronic toxicity data was found for only 32.4% of individual components, and information on toxicity through the dermal route was also highly limited. Conclusion: Our study suggested that labeling guidelines should be required to identify the environmentally hazardous substances contained in children's products. In addition, the toxicological data on many ingredients in children's products were insufficient. The data gap for toxicity data should be filled for future risk assessment.

Objectives: The objectives of this study are to introduce the development process of work situations and types in the revised regulations on wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) for hazardous chemical handlers, analyze the implementation of the regulations, and then provide basic data for future education strategies. Methods: The development process of work situations for regulation was explained through a flowchart by year. In 2018, a survey of 30 chemical managers and 201 managers and handlers was conducted based on recognition of work situations and the related regulations. In 2019, 91 chemical managers and 204 handlers were surveyed to find the degree of compliance with regulations, direction for improvement of understanding the regulations, and training methods. Results: Only 78.0% of chemical managers and 66.7% of handlers said they were aware of the regulations (p<0.05). Just 79.0% of handlers knowing the regulations said they would wear PPE in compliance with these regulations. Therefore, the best way to make workers wear proper PPE in accordance with regulations is to strengthen the promotion of education on regulations. In order to improve the quality of education, 51.7% of managers and 33.3% of handlers cited educational content (video, ppt, etc.) as the top priority. Conclusion: This study suggested that more educational opportunities should be provided and educational content should be developed in order for workers handling hazardous chemicals to wear PPE as prescribed in regulations.
In this study, a convenient approach for sensitive, quick and simple detection of hazardous acids was investigated. A series of azo dyes were synthesized and applied as a chemosensor for the acid detection both on fibers and in solution. Various aniline, benzothiazole or isoxazole derivatives were used as diazo component and coupled with N-benzyl-N-ethylaniline or 2,2'-(phenylimino)bis-ethanol to give azo based dyes. The acid sensing phenomenon was observed by naked-eye and detection was further confirmed by UV-Vis spectrophotometer and hue difference(ΔH*) evaluation. The developed sensors showed a distinct and quick color change from yellow to magenta by addition of trace amounts of the hazardous acids. The absorption maxima was shifted to a longer wavelength by 70 ~ 150nm and hue difference(ΔH*) was 60 ~ 120°. A cotton fiber coated with Dye 1 exhibited excellent storage stability under various temperature(-30 ~ 43℃) and humidity(30 ~ 80%) conditions without discoloration and fading of the fiber sensors. Also the acid sensing properties were maintained.

Research on the advanced detection of harmful objects in airport cargo for passenger safety against terrorism has increased recently. However, because associated studies are primarily focused on the detection of relatively large objects, research on the detection of small objects is lacking, and the detection performance for small objects has remained considerably low. Here, we verified the limitations of existing research on object detection and developed a new model called the Small Hazardous Object detection enhanced and reconstructed Model based on the You Only Look Once version 5 (YOLOv5) algorithm to overcome these limitations. We also examined the performance of the proposed model through different experiments based on YOLOv5, a recently launched object detection model. The detection performance of our model was found to be enhanced by 0.3 in terms of the mean average precision (mAP) index and 1.1 in terms of mAP (.5:.95) with respect to the YOLOv5 model. The proposed model is especially useful for the detection of small objects of different types in overlapping environments where objects of different sizes are densely packed. The contributions of the study are reconstructed layers for the Small Hazardous Object detection enhanced and reconstructed Model based on YOLOv5 and the non-requirement of data preprocessing for immediate industrial application without any performance degradation.
Background and Objectives: To investigate the relationship between hearing impairment and alcohol drinking patterns in South Korean adults. Subjects and Methods: Data collection was performed by Korean National Health and Nutrition Survey from January 1 to December 31, 2012. Data analyses were performed from February 20 to March 3, 2018. Data from 3,860 adults 20 years of age or older without a history of malignancy or chronic otitis media in the Korean National Health and Nutrition Survey 2012 database who participated in the health questionnaires, and who had available results from otologic examinations that included pure tone audiogram, were included. Pure-tone average hearing thresholds were calculated at 500, 1,000, 2,000, and 4,000 Hz. Hearing loss was defined as a pure-tone average >40 dB in one or both ears. The Alcohol Use Disorder Identification Test was used to evaluate drinking statuses of subjects. Data were analyzed using the complex-sample χ2-test of independence and a complex-sample logistic regression analysis. Results: Of the 29,954,319 individuals in the weighted cross-sectional study population, 15,106,040 (50.4%) were men and 14,848,098 (49.6%) were women. A total of 8.1% of men and 7% of women had hearing impairment. The degrees of drinking with appropriate, risky, and hazardous drinking habits were 58.2, 32.1, and 9.7% among men; and 76.4, 12.5, and 11.1% among women, respectively. Among men, the odds ratio of hearing loss increased by 2.506 times when comparing hazardous and appropriate drinking (confidence interval, 1.083 to 5.800, p=0.002). Moderate alcohol consumption (≤2 drinks per day) was not protective for hearing in either group. Conclusions: As hazardous drinking tends to coexist with hearing impairment in men, appropriate prevention and intervention strategies should be emphasized. A longitudinal study to investigate harmful drinking and the mechanism of hearing loss should be performed.

This study applied ALOHA Program to predict the damage caused by fire and explosion predicted to occur from gas leakage at LPG stations and presented plans to prevent damages by diagramming the impact range and distance. The propane gas leakage from LPG stations causes human damage like breathing issues and property damage, including building destruction to residents in the surrounding areas. As a way to reduce this, first, the hazardous substance safety manager of the LPG station needs to check frequently whether the meters and safety valves are working properly to prevent leakage in advance. Second, the LPG stations' storage tanks should be worked by the person who received "hazardous substance safety manager training" under the provisions of the Act on the Safety Control of Hazardous Substances and has been appointed as a "hazardous substance safety manager" by the fire department. Third, LPG station's various safety device functions, such as overfill prevention devices, must be checked on a regular basis. Finally, wearing work clothes and shoes that prevent static electricity at LPG stations is highly recommended, as static can cause a fire when gas leaks.

With a rapid growth of domestic industry in korea, now about 25,000 kinds of chemicals are being distributed, and it has been known that just about 15% of them has toxic substances. Recently, South Koreans have an anxiety about the stability and accidents of chemicals because chemical accidents like Gumi hydrofluoric acid accident have occurred. The U.S. has adopted the systems like EPCRA (Emergency Planning and Community Right-to-Know Act), TRI (Toxic Release Inventory) and TSCA (Toxic Substances Control Act), and is also managing the hazardous chemicals by providing the information about them to its people and site workers. Japan's Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare also has adopted J-CHECK system and is implementing it to let Japanese people know the information of safety of chemicals about REACH. However, the Korean government has a difficult situation to mediate the different idea with the Korean industry to make lower statute of Pre-legislation registration & evaluation of chemicals that will be implemented and Chemical Material Control Association that is being implemented. Especially city and country areas located in the industrial areas need political improvement focusing on vulnerable area through the check about current situation of hazardous chemicals of jurisdiction and management method, but the information about the management situation of small scale work places is insufficient. Therefore this study set up the urgent management area in Ansan Smart Hub through NFPA code according to the types of accident and dander characteristics of each chemical being used in the companies that have less than 50 workers and deal with chemicals located in Ansan Smart Hub in Gyeonggi-do.
