In actuality, as most of harmful businesses running at school environment hygiene purification zones are stationeries with game rooms, comic book stores, PC rooms, etc., which are highly accessible to students, they become serious problems in school environment. The present study conducted a survey of violation cases at school environment sanitation and purification zones around 21 elementary schools in Seoul. The objectives of this study are, first, to investigate harmful environment around schools regulated by the School Health Act, and second, to suggest plans to improve harmful environment around schools. According to the results of our survey, illegal acts and facilities observed at school environment sanitation and purification zones are as follows. Amusement pubs/room saloons occupied 52.5%, singing rooms 15.4%, game rooms 15.1%, billiard clubs 4.3%, gambling houses 4.3%, hotels/motels/inns 3.6%, cartoon shops 2.6%, video rooms 1.0%, LPG storages 0.7%, and infectious disease hospitals/detention hospitals/detention facilities 0.7%. As it is required to make continuous and systematic surveys and researches on the environmental hygiene around schools, we need to manage school environment efficiently through cooperation among the government, education offices and individual schools.

Objectives: The working environment affects employees' physical and mental aspects, and has a deep associations with depression. The purposes of this study are to investigate how hazardous environment working experience impacts on depression, to provide rationale and practical implications for reducing depression and drinking. Methods: This study targeted 215 dental hygiene students from 3 universities located in Gyeonggi-do from November 30 to December 4, 2015. We analyzed the data with frequency analysis, descriptive statistics, t-test. One-way ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficient, Regression analysis by using SPSS. Results: This study showed that experience working in hazardous environments increased depression and alcohol drinking, on the other hand alcohol drinking reduced depression. In addition, experience working in hazardous environments effected on depression indirectly through mediating of drinking, subjective health had not role of Moderating Effects between experience working in hazardous environments and depression. Conclusions: In order to reduce workers' depression and alcohol, the improvements of harmful environment are needed. For this governments and local governments should efforts to support enhancing workplace environment, to develop model of standard work environment, and to change employers' awareness on the harmful environment.

Objectives: Adolescent health risk behaviors are typically smoking, drinking, violence, and the use of harmful media. The articles published in the literature are about those behaviors which was individually studied. Teenagers, however, are likely to have those behaviors simultaneously such as smoking and drinking. Also, the use of media and harmful materials are common among adolescents. This study was conducted with the purpose of investigating the relationship of smoking, drinking, the use of harmful media. Methods: This study was a secondary analysis using the data drawn from National Youth Committee's survey of adolescent harmful environment in 2007. The self-reported questionnaires were administered to 7,409 students attending junior high schools between October 10 and November 20. The samples were randomly selected based on strata of geography, schools, and gender. Results: Junior high school students used the harmful media ranging from 13.9 % to 31% depending on the type of media. The most accessed one was adult-only games. The current smoking rates was 5.4% and drinking rates was 27.4%. There are statistically significant relationship between smoking and the use of harmful media, between drinking and the use of harmful media, and between smoking and drinking. The behavioral factors that can predict the use of harmful media based on logistic regression analysis are the grade and smoking. Conclusion: Students were at risk of engaging health risk behaviors as they were getting older. Like other literature, smoking was a significant predictor of adolescent behavioral problems.
This study examined moderating effects of mother's support and community environment on relationships between after school self-care and problem behaviors. Subjects were 579 3rd and 6th grade elementary school children. Major findings were positive relationships between after school self-care and problem behaviors. Neither gender differences nor grade differences were found in the relationships between after school self-care and problem behaviors. Moderating effects of care by relatives or neighbors on mother's support was shown in the relationships between after school self-care and internal problem behaviors. Moderating effects of proximity to harmful facilities were found in relationships between after school self-care and external problem behaviors.

Objectives: Literature has shown the relationship between the use of harmful media and sexual behaviors among adolescents. Laws and regulations of violent and sexual mass media are getting stricter, but young children reported that they were still accessible to these harmful materials. It might be due to the development of new techniques in media delivery and new trends of game addict among Korean adolescents. Since there were very few studies on recent harmful media available to young children, the authors explore the usability of harmful media and identify related factors that can predict adolescent sexual attitudes and activities. Methods: This study was conducted secondary analysis using the internal data that were drawn from National Youth Committee's survey of adolescent harmful environment in 2007. The self-reported questionnaires were administered to 13,721 adolescents who were randomly selected based on strata of geography, school, and gender. Results: Adolescents accessed mostly to NC-19(No Children under 19) TV programs(35.8%) and AO(Adult Only) games(35.5%). Most of them reported that they did not have difficulty in the contact of these harmful media. The factors that can predict adolescent sexual intercourse are male adolescents, attending high school, not being satisfied with family life and school, contact with phone-advertising of sex, AO games and other online games, viewing adult videos, or reading adult books. Conclusions: When sex education is designed, an instructor considers not only students' demographic characteristics but also the strategies to deter the use of harmful media especially for game materials.

Temporal and spatial characteristics of cyanobacterial communities at the monitoring stations for Harmful Algal Bloom Alert System (HABAS) in Nakdong River and Lake Dukdong were investigated for two years (2013 to 2014). A total of 30 cyanobacterial species from 14 genera were found at the survey stations. Microcystis sp. showed maximum cell density in the total cyanobacterial community in August, 2014 at ND-2 and in September, 2013 at ND-3 station. Lynbya limnetica and Geitlerinema sp., non-target species for alert criteria showed maximum cell density at ND-1 (August, 2013) and Dam station of Lake Dukdong (September, 2014), respectively. Total cyanobacterial cell density and the relative abundance of four target genera (Microcystis, Anabaena, Aphanizomenon and Oscillatoria spp.) for alert criteria was relatively lower in the mesotrophic Lake Dukdong than at the eutrophic riverine stations of Nakdong River, indicating cyanobacterial density and the RA of target genera is affected by the trophic state of the monitoring stations. Simulating the alert system using phycocyanin concentration as an alert criterion resulted in the longer period of alert issued compared to the period of alert issued using the current criterion of harmful cyanobacterial cell density due to the influence of phycocyanin concentration from non-target cyanobacterial species.

This study examined the working site environment of Korean native cattle raising farmers and their actual condition of wearing personal protective equipment as part of preventing disasters during agricultural work. To this end, 160 Korean cattle raising farmers were surveyed and a site visit was performed on 10 farms. According to an examination of the cattle breeding environment, the major harmful factors were in the following order: fine dust (12.8%), organic feed dust (10.3%), contact with cattle (9.7%), manure (8.2%), germs and viruses (8.1%), harmful gases (7.4), contact with obstacles (6.7), and temperature (6.6%). The current status of the rate of wearing protection was in the order of gloves (20.9%), working hats (19.7%), boots (19.6%), masks (10.9%), protective clothing (8.9%), and specialized working clothing (6.6%). Nevertheless, most Korean cattle raising farmers recognized the risks when they did not wear protective equipment and the need for wearing protectors, but they mostly did not wear personal protective equipment due to a lack of knowledge on the selection of appropriate personal protective equipment and the discomfort they experience when they put on protectors. Even when they put on protective equipment, 38% was inappropriate for the farming work environment. Given the research results, improvements on and the development of specialized working clothing and personal protective equipment to protect farmers from harmful and dangerous materials from the cattle nurturing environment is necessary. Overall, based on the study data, objectified data collection, a determination of the necessary performance elements of personal protective equipment, and R&D will be needed through an on-site current status investigation.
We analyzed cyanobacterial community including akinete, resting cell, and benthic cyanobacteria in sediment of Bukhan, Namhan-River, Paldang-Lake, and Kyeongan-Stream and compared the physicochemical factors for water and pore water. We also performed cyanobacteria growth potential test through incubating sediment. As a result of physicochemical analysis, the concentrations of nutrients were similar for each depth of Bukhan-River. For Namhan-River and Lake Paldang sites, the concentrations of TP and DTN in bottom and deep water had higher levels. DTN in water body composed of NO3-N(73%) while DTN in pore water composed of NH3-N(77.8%). Benthic cyanobacteria in the sediment such as Oscillatoria tenuis, O. limosa, Phormidium tenue, Pseudanabaena limnetica, and Lyngbya sp. were dominant (between 0.0∼243.3×103 cells/g, w/w). Cell densities of cyanobacteria in sediment depth of 0∼2 cm in most sites were higher compared to those in other depths. The cell density of cyanobacteria in sediment correlated with pH, conductivity, BOD5, TP, DTP, and chl. a. Increased phytoplankton and organic matters were found to be able to inhibit the growth of benthic cyanobacteria. Results of cyanobacteria growth potential test after incubating sediment revealed that harmful cyanobacteria (Anabaena, Aphanizomenon, Microcystis, and Oscillatoria) appeared at 7 days post culturing. Base on these results, the methods used in this study are considered to be able to determine the appearance of harmful cyanobacteria.
From early 2000, many researchers in the groundwater and soil environment remediation project tried to calculate the pollution level and pollution remediation cost and reflect it in the design. In addition, by identifying the movement characteristics of oil pollutants in the underground environment, many researchers tried to derive design factors necessary for pollution purification. However, although the test should be conducted in an area contaminated with oil, the toxicity and risk are too great for testing by deliberately leaking pollutants that are harmful to the human body. And as oil-contaminated areas are promoted by military units such as returned US military bases, there is a limit to access by the general public. In addition, since the indoor simulation test and the field application test have been carried out separately from each other, it was difficult to compare and review various simulation tests Therefore, in this study, PITT (Partitioning Interwell Tracer Test) and analysis methods were specifically presented through actual tests so that field workers could easily use them with the help of the military base and the Korea Rural Community Corporation Soil Environment Restoration Team. However, in order to directly reflect the distribution tracer test results in the pollution remediation design, it is necessary to reduce the analysis errors by comparing the analysis results of the existing soil pollution survey, physical exploration, and numerical modeling. In addition, it is judged to be cautious in the analysis because errors can easily occur due to various factors such as the type of oil at the polluted site, the hydraulic conductivity of the aquifer, and the skill of the researcher.

There are many work-related injuries and diseases of fisheries in Korea. Fishermen have exposed to harmful environment, such as natural disasters, ultraviolet, noise, vibration, organic solvents, ergonomic risk factors, loss of fresh water and food, and psychologic stress. They have suffered from numerous work-related health problems, including musculoskeletal disorders, cardiovascular diseases, infectious diseases, pyschological diseases, decompression sickness, and so on. Sea accidents can cause deaths of fishermen and if sea pollution is occurred, fishermen have a great economic damage. However, the concern of these injuries and diseases has been little because they are small in number and have decreased. Fisheries are important core industries, so the problems of fisheries have to be solved by a government. But work-related injuries and diseases are not investigated properly and accurate diagnoses are not made due to loss of concern. We hope that this article will be a cornerstone to solving the work-related problems of fisheries.
