  • In this paper, a new controller for a single-phase PWM converter is described, which requires only two input parameters, the dc voltage and the ac current. Detail simulation model with EMTDC(Electro-Magnetic Transient program for DC transmission) including power circuit and controller was developed to verify the operation of proposed controller. The application feasibility of the proposed controller was verified through experimental works with a prototype. The proposed controller has a simple structure in the point of hardware implementation, and shows excellent performance in normal operation as well as in sudden load change.

  • This paper presents the development of the I/O Interface for the real time parallel data communication between controller of a six-axis industrial robot(CRS-A460) and an external computer. The proposed I/O Interface consists of the hardware I/O interface and the software that is downloaded to the robot controller and executed by the controller operating system. The constitution of the digital I/O Port for CRS-A460 robot controller and the digital I/O board for IBM-PC are presented as well as the Process Control Program of the robot controller. The developed protocol for the parallel data communication is described. The data communication is tested, and the performance is analysed. In particular, it is shown that the real-time constraint of the robot controller process is satisfied.

  • This paper describes a controller design for the stator reactive power generator in the transmission system. The controller of static reactive power generator was designed using a mathematical model and non-linear state feedback. The performance of controller was verified using computer simulation with EMTP code and experimental work with scaled-model. The dynamic interaction with a simple power system was also analyzed using both the simulation model and hardware scaled-model. Both simulation and experimental results prove that the controller using PI block and non-linear state feedback offers better performance than the controller using PI block only.

  • This paper describes a design and performance evaluation of robust controller which overrides unstable motion and pulls out quickly after water entry of underwater vehicle dropped from aircraft or surface ship. We use 6-DOF equation for model of motions and assume parameter uncertainty to reflect the difference of real motion from modelled motion equation. we represent a nonlinear system with uncertainty as Takagi and Sugeno's(T-S) fuzzy models and design controller stabilizing them. The fuzzy controller utilizes the concept of so-called parallel distributed compensation (PDC). Finally, we confirm stability and performance of the controller through computer simulation and hardware in the loop simulation (HILS).

  • GoldStar Industrial Systems Co. R & D center successfully developed the inverter for welding under the support of GoldStar Electric Machinery Co. Now, we are currently working on the mechanical part of articulated robot and a high-performance general purpose motion controller. By combining the above three items, we will be able to constitute the complete welding robot system on our own. In this article. the welding robot system currently under developing is introduced. The main focus will be placed on the development of general purpose motion controller with welding control module. Therefore, the architecture of welding robot controller where the general purpose motion controller is combined with the welding controller module will be explained. Here, the software system will be explained with regard to the hardware system.

  • This paper proposes an autonomous decentralized control for a parallel connected uninterruptible power supply (UPS) system based on a fast power detection method using a FPGA based hardware controller for a single phase system. Each UPS unit detects only its output voltage and current without communications signal exchange and a quasi dq transformation method is applied to detect the phase and amplitude of the output voltage and the output current for the single phase system. Fast power detection can be achieved based on a quasi dq transformation, which results in a realization of very fast transient response under rapid load change. In the proposed method, the entire control system is implemented in one FPGA chip. Complicated calculations are assigned to hardware calculation logic, and the parallel processing circuit makes it possible to realize minimized calculation time. Also, an Nios II CPU core is implemented in the same FPGA chip, and the software can be applied for non-time critical calculations. Applying this control system, an autonomous decentralized UPS system with very fast transient response is realized. Feasibility and stable operation are confirmed by means of an experimental setup with three UPSs connected in parallel. Also, rapid load change is applied and excellent performance of the system is confirmed in terms of transient response and stability.

  • The Deep-sea miner system is composed of body, actuators, sensors, and devices for control and monitoring. At present, we are manufacturing the miner's body included actuators and already consisted with off-the-shelf embedded controller. But sensors and those devices were just determined. To previously test performance of embedded controller which manages control and monitoring of miner system, its simulator must be developed for control and monitoring. Hardware-In-the-Loop(HIL) simulation is being increasingly used in industrial applications. This is an effective tool for the evaluation of electric system and drives. In the HIL simulator, we can test and design the control and monitoring system freely without the risk of hardware ruins and the load of expenses. Also the programming software for miner operating is verified on the HIL simulator. In this paper, we introduce the concept of HIL simulator for control and monitoring of deep-sea miner.

  • In order to improve the capability of mission flight of tiltrotor UAV that has been developed by Korea Aerospace Research Institute, a simulation study on the formation flight of autonomous control 5 level has been performed. The formation flight is based on the centralized method with leader and follower airplanes. The formation flight controller was verified through numerical simulation with 3 followers and hardware-in-the loop simulation with 1 follower. This paper describes controller design methods, hardware-in-the-looped simulation test, and performance verification using simulation.

  • This paper proposes an effective countermeasure to an intrinsic hardware vulnerability of the keyboard controller that causes sniffing problem on the password authentication system based on the keyboard input string. Through the vulnerability, some possible attacker is able to snoop whole the password string input from the keyboard even when any of the existing keyboard protection software is running. However, it will be impossible for attackers to gather the exact password strings if the proposed policy is applied to the authentication system though they can sniff the keyboard hardware protocol. It is expected that people can use secure Internet commerce after implementing and applying the proposed policy to the real environment.

  • This paper presents an intuitive and powerful way to study and design motor drive control. The control of induction motors, as most widely used machines, is discussed. Thanks to ultra low latency and high fidelity Hardware-in-the-Loop systems, different aspects of up-to-date drive regulation are examined. A power stage, comprised of a grid voltage source, a rectifier, a VSC inverter and an induction motor, is emulated on the HIL platform in real time. A digital signal controller is plugged into the interface board and connected to the HIL emulation platform, without any hardware modifications. For motor control and power electronics applications, a dedicated Texas Instruments TMS320F2808 DSP is chosen. The same controller can drive an emulation platform and a real device with no modifications. Current and speed control loop test results are presented and discussed.
