에너지 추종방법을 이용한 안정적 햅틱 상호작용 (Stable Haptic Interaction with Reference Energy Following Scheme)

  • A recently proposed method for stabilizing haptic interfaces and teleoperation systems was tested with a 'PHANToM' commercial haptic device. The 'Passivity Observer' (PO) and 'Passivity Control1er' (PC) stabilization method was applied to stabilize the system but also excited a high frequency mode in the device. To solve this problem, we propose a method to use a timevarying desired energy threshold instead of fixed zero energy threshold for the PO, and make the actual energy input follow the timevarying energy threshold. With the time-varying energy threshold, we make the PC control action smooth without sudden impulsive behavior by distributing the dissipation. The proposed new PO/PC approach is applied to PHANToM with high stiffness (K = 5000N/m), and stable and smooth contact is guaranteed. Resetting and active environment display problems also can be solved with the reference energy following idea.

  • This paper presents a new colonoscopy training simulator that includes a specialized haptic device and graphics algorithms to transfer haptic sensation through a long and flexible tube, and manage large number of polygons. The developed haptic device makes the colonoscope tube move along the two guiding rods in the translational direction. The torque of the roll motion is transferred by a timing belt and pulleys. A special guide is developed, which allows the force and torque from the motors to be transmitted to the user without loss. The haptic device is evaluated by physicians. One of the important skills of the colonoscopy, jiggling is incorporated for the first time by the developed sensor mechanism using photo-sensors. A colonoscope handle that shares the look, feel, and functions with the actual colonoscope, is developed with the necessary electronics inside. The number of polygons is reduced by an edge-collapse algorithm for real-time simulation. The algorithms to import CT data, to segment the colon image, to extract centerline of the colon, and to construct the colon surface, are integrated into a Colon Modeling Kit system that performs all these processes in real-time.

가변적인 통신지연시간을 갖는 원격 작업 환경을 위한 실시간 햅틱 렌더링 (Real-Time Haptic Rendering for Tele-operation with Varying Communication Time Delay)

  • This paper presents a real-time haptic rendering method for a realistic force feedback in a remote environment with varying communication time-delay. The remote environment is assumed as a virtual environment based on a computer graphics, for example, on-line shopping mall, internet game and cyber-education. The properties of a virtual object such as stiffness and viscosity are assumed to be unknown because they are changed according to the contact position and/or a penetrated depth into the object. The DARMAX model based output estimator is proposed to trace the correct impedance of the virtual object in real-time. The output estimator is developed on the input-output relationship. It can trace the varying impedance in real-time by virtue of P-matrix resetting algorithm. And the estimator can trace the correct impedance by using a white noise that prevents the biased input-output information. Realistic output forces are generated in real-time, by using the inputs and the estimated impedance, even though the communication time delay and the impedance of the virtual object are unknown and changed. The generated forces trace the analytical forces computed from the virtual model of the remote environment. Performance is demonstrated by experiments with a 1-dof haptic device and a spring-damper-based virtual model.

시각장애인을 위한 실시간 햅틱 디스플레이 시스템 설계 및 구현 (Design and Implementation of Real-time Haptic Display System)

  • 본 논문에서는 시각장애인에게 점자 및 촉도(점자 그림)를 거의 실시간으로 촉각정보(촉각으로 인지할 수 있는 정보)로 변환하여 제공할 수 있는 햅틱 디스플레이 시스템을 제안한다. 제안한 시스템은 시각장애인에게 촉각정보를 전달하는 햅틱 디스플레이 장치와 점자 및 촉도 정보를 촉각신호로 변환하여 장치에 전달하는 장치 제어 소프트웨어 프로그램으로 구성된다. 제안한 시스템의 성능평가는 10인의 시각장애인들을 통해 진행하였다. 실험결과 제안한 시스템은 기존 점자정보단말기들과 유사한 점자 인지율 및 인지속도를 제공하였다. 또한 촉도 정보를 최대 1.1초 이내에 촉각정보로 변환하여 출력함으로써 기존 점자프린터에서는 불가능한 실시간 그래픽 정보 전달이 가능하였다.

  • 서구에서는 인체의 오감 중 시각을 가장 중요하게 여기고 있으나, 시각중심주의적 사고는 많은 문제점을 내포하고 있다. 시각중심주의는 주체를 특권화하며, 다른 감각들과의 상호작용을 억제하면서 세계에 대한 경험을 시각 영역에 한정한다. 그러나 경험은 다양한 양식의 '만짐'으로써 이해될 수 있으며, 감촉성과 관련이 있다. 현대조경에서는 시각중심주의에 반하여 신체의 다감각적 측면에 관심이 고조되면서 외부공간에서 신체의 개입이 중요한 이슈가 되었다. 본 연구는 주체의 능동적 체험을 촉발하는 촉지적 지각 체제에 대한 가능성을 탐구한다. 촉지적 지각은 주체의 능동적 체험을 이끄는 촉매적 역할을 수행하며, 이러한 촉지적 지각을 통해 주체는 장소성을 체험한다. 촉지적 지각은 다양한 감각의 동시성과 상호작용을 통하여 촉각을 통해 알고 있던 것을 드러냄으로써 능동적인 참여를 이끌어낸다. 촉지적 지각 체제는 다양한 분야에서 연구되었으나, 조경 분야에서는 연구가 이루어지지 않았다. 이에 본 연구는 모더니즘 이전에 나타난 조경에 한하여 촉지적 지각의 양상에 관하여 논하고자 한다. 촉지적 지각에 대한 이론적 배경에서는 선행연구 및 문헌 고찰을 통하여 촉지적 지각의 개념을 명확히 하고, 촉지적 지각의 특성을 도출한 연후, 시각중심주의 체제의 문제점과 촉지적 지각의 필요성을 논하다. 촉지적 지각의 역사적 전개 과정에서는 시각 체제의 변화 과정을 시대순으로 살펴보며, 시각중심적 사고와 반-시각중심적 사고가 각 시대의 건축과 조경에 어떻게 투영되었는지를 문헌 및 사례를 통하여 고찰한다. 이후, 시대적 변화 과정에서 시각 체제가 조경 분야에 미친 영향을 고찰한다.

Force Distribution Algorithms For Singularity-Free 3-DOF Parallel Haptic Device With Redundant Actuation

  • The parallel-type mechanism provides more accurate and stiff motion than the serial-type mechanism. However, in case of using the haptic device, the performance of the force reflection can be deteriorated due to the singular points existing in workspace. In this paper, we propose a redundantly actuated parallel 3-DOF haptic device, which is singularity-free in the workspace and has an improved force reflection capability. In addition, we propose a new force distribution algorithm, which can reflect force of both high and low resolution, using two sets of actuator with different size. Redundant actuators are attached to the base frame in order to minimize the inertia of the system. Moreover, a wire and gear reduction system is employed to achieve high force reflection along with soft feeling. We confirm the performance of the force reflection capability throughout simulation.

사진 속 피사체의 법선 벡터 예측에 기반한 햅틱 상호 작용 (Haptic Interaction with Objects Displayed in a Picture based on Surface Normal Estimation)

  • In this paper we propose a haptic interaction system that physically represents the underlying geometry of objects displayed in a 2D picture, i.e., a digital image. To obtain the object's geometry displayed in the picture, we estimate the physical transformation between the object plane and the image plane based on homographic information. We then calculate the rotated surface normal vector of the object's face and place it on the corresponding part in the 2D image. The purpose of this setup is to create a force that can be rendered along with the image without distorting the visual information. We evaluated the proposed haptic rendering system using a set of pictures of objects with different orientations. The experimental results show that the participants reliably identified the geometric configuration by touching the object in the picture. We conclude this paper with a set of applications.

  • In this paper, a five degree-of-freedom haptic device is proposed. The proposed haptic device has a pen which is suspended by tensioned six strings. Human operator handles the pen. Six DC motors are used as actuators to generate tensions in six strings to make resultant force feedback at the pen to the human operator Six encoders are used for calculating the movement of the pen. A digital controller is used for generate control signals for the suitable tension in the six strings. A current amplifiers is used for amplifying the control signals. Cable-suspended system has advantages of structure simplicity (only with several strings driven by motors without using other tensioning mechanisms), low inertia, and high force-to-weight ratio.   • A redundantly actuated planar 3-degree-of-freedom parallel mechanism is analyzed to show its high application potential as a haptic device. Its structure along with the closed form forward position solutions is briefly discussed. Then its geometric and kinematic characteristics via singularity analysis, the kinematic isotropy index, and the input-output force transmission ratio are investigated both for the redundantly actuated cases and for the non-redundantly actuated case. In addition, comparative joint torque simulations of the mechanism with different number of redundant actuations as well as without redundant actuation are conducted to confirm the improved joint torque distribution characteristics. Through these analyses it is shown that the geometric and kinematic characteristics of the redundantly actuated mechanism are superior to the ones of the mechanism without redundant actuation. Thus, it can be concluded that the suggested planar mechanism with redundant actuation has a very high potential for haptic device applications.

햅틱기술을 이용한 피시봇 개발 (Development of the Fishbot Using Haptic Technology)

  • 본 연구에서는 가상낚시시스템(VFS, Virtual Fishing System)을 위해 제작된 햅틱장치인 FishBot을 개발한다. FishBot는 XY테이블에 휠축을 장착한 3자유도 로봇으로 구성된다. 물고기의 동작을 모사하기 위해 XY 축 제어는 토크값을 가변적으로 제한하는 모션 위치 제어 모드로 하고 휠 축은 힘제어 모드로 하였다. 낚싯대는 실제 낚싯대에 LED를 장착하고 웹 카메라를 튜닝하여 낚싯대의 위치를 인식할 수 있도록 하였다. 결과적으로 제작된 Fishbot은 물고기와 같이 위치와 속도를 변화하고 DAC를 통해 낚는 힘을 제어할 수 있으며 낚싯대 끝단의 위치를 관측하여 가상현실시스템(Virtual Reality System)상에서 연동할 수 있게 하였다.
