In his recent paper, Hanseung Kim (2014) discusses the Cable Guy paradox and argues that given the nature of regret, it is rational to bet on the cable guy's afternoon arrival, though it is equally probable for him to arrive in the morning or afternoon interval. In this paper, I argue that regret is not essential to the paradox in that the paradox still arises even if we ignore regret. I then briefly discuss a possible way to proceed to resolve the paradox.

The flexible pedestrian legform impactor(Flex-PLI) consisting of a flexible femur and tibia will be tested for pedestrian protection by global technical regulation(GTR) within the next couple of years as a replacement for the existing transport research laboratory(TRL) legform impactor. In this study, a computer aided engineering(CAE) model was used to perform the effect analysis of each injury with regard to the changes in tolerance factors with the baseline results without tolerance. The tolerance factors were the height of impactor from ground reference line, initial velocity of impactor and rotation of impactor.

Some Korean Philosophers has manifested their opinions on Sleeping Beauty problem. For example, Hasuk Song and Namjoong Kim stands for an thirder, while Hanseung Kim for a perspectivistic compatibilist. In order to fill a vacant position, I shall make an argument for halfers in this paper. My presumption is that the probability the question now given to sleeping beauty is the first question among several is greater than thirder's calculated value. Futhermore, I argue that the probability the coin landed heads on condition that the question now given to sleeping beauty is the first question is greater than 1/2.

Following a 5.8 magnitude earthquake on September 12, 2016 in Gyeongju Province, a magnitude 5.4 earthquake occurred in the northern region of Pohang City on November 15, 2017 in South Korea. Only 7.9 % of the building structures are earthquake-resistant, according to the recent survey conducted by the government agencies in October 2017. In this paper, the linear analysis seismic performance evaluation procedure of the existing school structures presented in the revised methodology(Seismic Performance Evaluation Procedure and Rehabilitation Manual for School Facilities) was introduced. In this paper, the linear analysis evaluation procedure presented in the revised methodology was introduced and the seismic performance index of the example structure was evaluated using the linear analysis evaluation procedure. The seismic retrofit was verified by the linear and nonlinear dynamic analyses using Perform 3D. The analysis results show that the dissipated inelastic energy is concentrated on the retrofitted shear wall and the maximum inter-story drift of the stadium model structure with damping system satisfies the requirement of the current code.

Application of an electric heater is one of attractive methods for active regeneration in DPF systems, but its application has been limited by the capacity of electric power available in vehicles. This study was focused on intake throttling to reduce electrical energy required in the electrical heated DPF system. As results, this study showed the decrease of $30\~50\%$ of intake air mass flow rate and the increase of $20\~60^{\circ}C$ of exhaust gas temperature by the proper control of intake throttling. These intake throttling effects was helpful for regenerable temperature achievement.

In soil washing, there are many variables including types of reagent and contaminant, washing time, soil-liquid ratio, washing cycles, washing agent concentrations, and etc. To identify the most influencing factors on soil washing process, regression analysis was performed for eight single variables and five combined variables. A quantitative model that employs W/H (molar ratio of washing agent to heavy metal) as a major variable was established based on the regression. The validity of the model was demonstrated by conducting lab experiments with Cu, Pb, Zn, Ni and As-contaminated soils, and various washing reagents including acetic acid, citric acid, malic acid, oxalic acid, ethylenediamine tetraacetic acid (EDTA) and nitriloacetic acid (NTA). The washing efficiencies were compared with the EDTA washing data reported in the literature. The correlation between W/H and removal efficiency was analyzed after dividing data into two groups according to the heavy metal mobility.

Three pilot-scale membrane systems were operated using lake water as influent in this study. Microfiltration (MF) membrane with pore size of 0.01 m was used in Systen I of which filtration mode was set at constant pressure of $1kgf/cm^2$. Ultrafiltration (UF) membranes with molecular cutoff (MWCO) of 80,000 and 13,000 were used in System II-1 and II-2, respectively. Constant flow mode was applied at the range between 0.7 and $1.5m^3/m^2{\cdot}d$ (average of $1.1m^3/m^2${\cdot}d) for System II-1 and between 0.37 and $1.65m^3/m^2{\cdot}d$ (average of $1.18m^3/m^2{\cdot}d$) for System II-2. In System I, the flux changed from $1m^3/m^2{\cdot}d$ to $0.2m^3/m^2{\cdot}d$ during the operation time of 5 months. System II showed recovery of 94% under the allowable maximum pressure of $3kgf/cm^2$ during the same operation period. From these results, the efficient operation was observed in constant flow mode with respect to filtration time and recovery. Average filtrate turbidity showed 0.0071 NTU in System I and 0.0054 NTU in System II, which implied that high turbidity removal was obtained in both MF and UF systems with no significant difference between MF and UF. From the fact that membrane flux depends largely on membrane type and operation mode, a guideline of optimum design and operation should be suggested for application of membrane systems to full scale water treatment.

In First-Order Logic the English expressions, 'any', 'every', 'all', and 'each' are treated on a par but have different meanings in the natural language usages. Especially the expression 'any' is typically used only in the negative contexts, which linguists have paid attention to and attempted to provide an adequate explanation of. I shall show that the explanations so far mainly from linguists are not satisfactory and revive the philosophical insights concerning the logical features of 'any' provided by Zeno Vendler in 1962. I shall claim that the expression 'any' has what Vendler calls the 'freedom of choice' as its primary meaning and denotes what Kit Fine calls an 'arbitrary object'. It will be shown that the logical features of 'any' are manifested more evidently in the analysis of the Korean expression 'amwu'. I believe that this analysis has significant philosophical implications. As an instance I shall show that we can take a fresh perspective on the problem which involves the universal generalization rule and the preface paradox.
