A Study on the Characteristics of Natural Convection in a Partially Opened Enclosure with a Heat Source (발열체와 부분 열림 수직벽을 갖는 사각 공간내 자연대류 특성 해석)

  • Natural convection heat transfer in an enclosure with an opening in the right vertical wall and a heat source at the bottom surface is investigated using a holographic interferometric technique. The effects of the opening length, divider length attached to the top wall, and heater temperature on the temperature distribution are examined. The openging length as well as the divider length greatly affects the degree of inflow and outflow of air. With a small opening, the opening doesn't affect much the upward warm air flow resulting in the symmetric temperature distribution. On the other hand, with the increase of the opening length, the inward cold flow moves the upward flow to the left direction. With the increase of the divider length, temperature in the lower region of enclosure becomes higher for the small opening and lower for the large opening.

Synthesis of Polyacrylonitrile as Precursor for High-Performance Ultrafine Fibrids

  • Polyacrylonitrile (PAN) copolymers with different methyl acrylate (MA) contents were synthesized via solution polymerization and used as precursors for high-performance PAN ultrafine fibrids. The chemical structures of the copolymers were characterized using Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy and $^{13}C$ nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy. Their particle sizes and aspect ratios increased with increasing viscosity, and the degree of crystallinity increased with decreasing concentration of copolymer solution. In contrast, their peak temperature and heat of exotherm increased with decreasing concentration of the copolymer solution. The aromatization indices (AIs) of the fibrids increased with increasing heat-treatment time; however, the AIs decreased when the heat-treatment temperature was higher than the onset temperature of the copolymers. On the other hand, the crystal sizes of the fibrids decreased with increasing concentration of the copolymer solution when the MA content was held constant.

Enhanced Crystallization of Si at Low Temperature by $O_2$ Flow during Deposition

  • Effects of $O_2$ flow during deposition on Si crystallization at low substrate temperature were studied. Silicon thin films were prepared on $SiO_2$ substrates in a low-pressure chemical vapor deposition chamber using a mixture of $SiH_4$ and $H_2$. In some cases $O_2$ was intentionally introduced during deposition. Growth of poly silicon was observed at the substrate temperature as low as $480^{\circ}C$ when $O_2$ was flowed during deposition implying that crystallization of Si was enhanced by $O_2$ flow. On the other hand, $O_2$ flow did not show any significant effects at higher substrate temperature, where deposition rate is relatively fast. Enhancement mechanism of Si crystallization by $O_2$ flow was suggested from these results.

A study of sweating reaction on somato type (체형별 발한 반응에 관한 연구)

  • To investigate the difference of sweating reaction on somato types. We measured total sweat rate, locl sweat rate, skin temperature, physiological reactions and psyschological reactions at $25{\pm}1^{\circ}C$ and $25{\pm}1^{\circ}C$ under laboratory conditions. Nine healthy adult females were divided into three somato types (slender(3), normal(3) and obese type(3)). The results were as follows; Total sweat rate was highest in obese type, and then comes normal type and slender type in order. Local sweat rate was highest in infrascapular area, and then breast, the back of the hand, upperarm, ant. leg, and ant. thigh in order in all somato types. Mean skin temperature was highest in slender type, and then normal type and obese type in order. Rectal temperature, blood pressure and pulse rate were highest in boese type. Psychological reactions were appeared 'hot' 'humid' 'sweat' as ambient temperature go up. And somato types make little difference in psychological reactions.

  • In this study, a fundamental experiment was carried out to investigate the frost formation on a cryogenic flat plate with/without temperature distribution from 230K to 160K under the convective flow. The effects of mixing ethanol as a condensable substance were also researched. From the test results, when surface temperature at the upstream is 230K, mass flux is high. On the other hand, when surface temperature at the downstream is 160K, mass flux is low. The degree of improvement to restrain frost formation by ethanol mixing is relatively larger at the upstream than at the downstream.

  • The purpose of this study is to develop of portable thermal comfort measurement tool for elderly. Using prediction expression of thermal comfort for elderly which derived at previous study, a field studies were conducted. The objects of this survey are old persons over 60 years old and total 296 (male:111 persons, female:145 persons) persons were measured. The actual thermal sensation was compared with predicted thermal sensation calculated with PMV model, and the results shows that there were no correlation between them. Also, appling cheek temperature and hand temperature were useful to predict thermal sensation of elderly people. Especially, predicted thermal sensation using cheek temperature were closely connected with actual thermal sensation of elderly and presented most similar trend to actual thermal sensation.

  • The aim of this paper is to investigate the characteristics of electrochemical corrosion with the plasma ion nitriding temperature for 16Cr-10Ni-2Mo stainless steel. The corrosion behavior was analyzed by means of galvanostatic experiment in natural seawater that applied various current density with plasma ion nitriding temperature parameters. In result of galvanostatic experiment, relatively less surface damage morphology and the less damage depth was observed at a nitrided temperature of $450^{\circ}C$ that measured the thickest nitrided layer(S-phase). On the other hand, the most damage depth and unified corrosion behavior presented at a temperature of $500^{\circ}C$.

Optimization of Saponin Extraction Conditions in Ginseng Milk using Response Surface Methodology (반응표면분석 법을 이용한 인삼우유 중 사포닌 추출조건의 최적화)

  • To develop the methodology of the quantitative analysis of saponin in ginseng milk, conditions of the saponin extraction were optimized using the fractional factorial design with 3 variables and 3 levels by a RSM computer program. The extraction of saponin increased with an increase in extraction temperature up to $90^{\circ}C$ and then decreased significantly at $100^{\circ}C$. Extraction time affected the saponin yield in a similar trend. On the other hand, decreasing cooling temperature increased the amount of the saponin extracted. Recovery yield of the saponin from ginseng milk varied from 70.0% to 92.9%. The optimum extraction temperature, time and cooling temperature determined by partial differentiation of the model equation were $86^{\circ}C$, 2.83 hrs and $4^{\circ}C$, respectively. The Physical Property of the Structural Color Yarn and Fabric for Emotional Garment Using Biomimetic Technology (생체모방기술을 응용한 감성의류용 구조발색사와 직물의 물성)

  • This study investigated the structural coloration and fabric hand of the caustic reduced fabrics for emotional garment using structural color yarns, which was spun by 37 alternating nylon and polyester layers capable of producing basic colors using biomimetic technology. The colorations of the three kinds of structural color yarns were confirmed using multi angle spectro-photometer, and their triangular cross sections composed with 37 alternating nylon and polyester layers were measured using SEM and were discussed with layer length in relation with coloration and spinning conditions were also set up. The apparent color difference and reflectance of the three kinds of fabrics with different density and weave pattern were analysed as ranging from 400nm to 700nm. The optimum fabric structural design which is made by warp and weft densities(194ends/in ${\times}$ 105picks/in) and caustic reduction condition by $100^{\circ}C$ temperature and 60minutes with NaOH, 20g/l solution were decided through analysis of the mechanical properties and fabric hands of these three kinds of fabrics treated with 3 kinds of the caustic reduction conditions. And it was shown that the rate of caustic reduction was increased from 13% to 23% with increasing temperature and time of caustic reduction. The extensibility, bending rigidity and shear modulus of caustic reduction treated fabrics were decreased by treatment of caustic reduction, on the other hand fabric compressibility was increased. And it was shown that the hand value of specimen number one which was treated with temperature $100^{\circ}C$ and time 60minute was the best and the hand of this fabric was better than that of Morpho $fabric^{(R)}$ made by Teijin co. Japan.
