Purpose : This study is to see the existence of the meridian and the meridian point through their response to the Young-Su-Bo-Sa. Objective and Methods : For this purpose, with acupuncture stimulation with Young-Su-Bo-Sa on the Hapkok of left hand and an the non-meridian point, and using the Digital infrared thermal image(D.I.T.I), We observed and analyzed the thermal changes of Hapkok, Samgan, non-meridian point(NA), Yonghyang, Soryo, Chonchu, Shingwol. Results and Conclusions : To sum up, We could understand Young-Su-Bo-Sa stimulation through the study findings that the acupuncture stimulation on the meridian point caused significant thermal changes of the associated meridian and meridian point, and Young-Su-Bo stimulation given in the direction of the meridian passage caused increases in the thermal changes of the associated meridian point, while Young-Su-Sa stimulation caused decreases in the thermal changes of the associated meridian point.

Objective : Radial nerve palsy is characterized by palsy or paralysis of extensors of the wrist and digits, as well as the forearm supinators. Very proximal lesions also may affect the triceps. Numbness occurs on the dorsoradial aspect of the hand and the dorsal aspect of the radial 3 and 1/2 digits. We observed 7 patients with radial nerve palsy, the results are as follows. Methods & Results : All patients were treated by the same method and treatment was performed by acupuncture and Neuromuscular Electrical Stimulation. the electrode were placed unilaterally on the motor points of forearm. As the result, symptoms are improved remarkably. Conclusions : Patients were treated for 5.4 weeks, 14.7 times(average). The grade was that 6 cases were good and 1 case was excellent.

Objectives : The purpose of this study was to investigate the needling depth of five-phase acupoints by acupuncture and moxibustion literatures. Methods : 7 volumes of acupuncture and moxibustion literatures was used to determine the depth of five-phase acupoints. The depth of needling at 60 five-phase acupoints was compared between well, spring, stream, river, sea acupoints and also yin, yang, hand and foot meridians. Results : The proximal part of the extremities had deeper needling depth than the distal part of the extremities. The order of well, spring, stream, river, sea can be related to the needling depth. Foot meridians had deeper needling depth than hand meridians. Yin meridians had deeper needling depth at Well, spring, stream acupoints and yan meridians had deeper needling depth at river, sea acupoints. Conclusions : The distinct patterns of needling depth of five-phase acupoints is related to which part of the extremities are five-phase acupoints located.

Objectives: This study reports the effectiveness of acupuncture and moxibustion for Diabetic Peripheral Neuropathy concurrent with Chemotherapy-Induced Peripheral Neuropathy. Case presentation: A 58-year-old male was admitted for hand numbness and foot pain after his sixth chemotherapy. He was treated with acupuncture and moxibustion for 18 days. Symptoms were evaluated with a numeric rating scale (NRS). After 18 days of treatment, his foot pain improved from NRS 4 to NRS 2. His hand numbness disappeared. Conclusion: This study suggests that acupuncture and moxibustion can be used for managing diabetic peripheral neuropathy concurrent with chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy.

Object : This clinical study is to report the effects of Chengsimyeonjatang-gamibang on tremors. Methods : Two patients was treated with Chengsimyeonjatang-gamibang and acupuncture that was applied at LU8, LR4, HT3, LR2, GV20, GB20. The effect of treatment was evaluated by Visual Analog Scale(VAS) and Motor examination of Unified Parkinson's Disease Rating Scale(UPDRSIII). Results : After Korean medicine treatment, the patients' VAS and UPDRSIII scores were decreased and conditions were improved. Conclusions : The Korean medicine treatment of Chengsimyeonjatang-gamibang and acupuncture might be effective for the tremors.

Objectives : The Purpose of this study is to identify the anatomical correlates of the three Hand Yang meridians in the head (HYMH), i.e. the arteries of the head. Methods : The original text describing the HYMH in the Yellow Emperor's Inner Cannon is presented and translated into Korean. Anatomical literature related to the arteries of the head are reviewed to identify those that correspond to the HYMH. Results : Arteries corresponding to the HYMH are as follows: The Hand yangming large intestine meridian corresponds to the facial artery and the superior and inferior labial arteries. The Hand Taiyang small intestine meridian's first branch corresponds to the superficial temporal artery, the zygomatico-orbital artery, and the anterior auricular artery. The second branch corresponds to the transverse facial artery. The Hand Shaoyang triple energizer meridian's first branch corresponds to the posterior auricular artery, the superficial temporal artery, and the transverse facial artery. The second branch corresponds to the posterior auricular artery, the anterior auricular artery, and the zygomatico-orbital artery. Conclusions : The HYMH correspond as arteries, specifically branches of the external carotid artery. It is anticipated that arteries corresponding to other meridians in the head can also be identified.

This study was carried to identify whether acupuncture of several acupuncture points can affect the brain and to observe which aspects appear in EEG mapping, using electroencephalography. Those results are as follows ; 1. The pattern of resting computerized EEG map in intact human is appered normal 2. Each Acupuncture in Kwan Weon or Jog Sam Ri meridian points bring about the increase in $\theta,\;\alpha-wave$ activity and at various area of the cerebrium and the decrease in $\delta,\;\beta-wave$ activity. It strands to reason that brain function is elevated On the other hand , synchronous acupuncture bring about the decrease of brain function in view of the decrease of $\delta,\;\theta-wave$ activity at frontal area, and the unstable brain state in view of the increase of $\beta-wave$ activity. 3. Acupuncture in Hyeon Jong meridian point bring about the increase of $\delta,\;\theta-wave$ activity at frontal area and $\beta-wave$ activity at temporal area. From these we deduce that brain function is declined and brain is unstable. Synchronous acupuncture with other meridian points reversly showed that brain function is elevated. 4. Synchronous acupuncture in Kwan Weon , Jog Sam Ri, Hyeon Jong bring about the decrease of the brain function and the unstable brain state, showing the pattern of increased $\delta,\;\theta-wave$ activity at frontal, parietal area, and increased $\beta-wave$ activity at temporal area.

Objective : Audio-evoked potential is technique used for measuring brain functions such as memory, attention, and concentration. Although a number of studies on acupuncture for pain, there are few reports on the effect of acupuncture cognitive function. Methods : Fifteen healthy volunteers with no neurological condition took part of the study. $(23.27{\pm}2.09)$. In this study, we examined the changes in auditory P300 by acupuncture stimulation to 'Oegwan' on the left hand. Auditory P300 was recorded before, during and after acupuncture. The amplitude and latency of P300 at Fz, Cz, Pz point were calculated. Results : Auditory P300 amplitude decreased during and after acupuncture, but there was no statistical significance.(P< .05) Auditory P300 latency significantly decreased during and after acupuncture.(P< .05) Conclusions : The decrease of Auditory P300 latency time suggests that acupuncture at Oegwan has some effects on the cognitive function.

Purpose : In order to estimate clinical effects of Oriental Medicine Treatment with acupotomy therapy of Carpal tunnel Syndrome. Methods : From 7th May, 2008 to 10th May, 2008, 1 female patient diagnosed as carpal tunnel syndrome(clinical diagnosed) was treated with general oriental medicine therapy(acupuncture, moxibustion, cupping, physical therapy, herbal medication) and acupotomy. Results : The patient's both hand numbness, both wrist pain & puffiness were remarkably improved. Conclusions : This study demonstrates that oriental medical treatment with acuputomy therapy has notable effect in improving symptoms of carpal tunnel syndrome. as though we had not wide experience in this treatment, more research is needed.

Objectives : To analyze the contents of ≪Lingshu·Jingjin≫ and study the standard posture in context of Korean Medicine. Methods : Analyzed the terms related to the name, body region and orientation of Three Yin and Three Yang used in ≪Lingshu·Jingjin≫ to deduce the standard posture of the description. ≪Lingshu·Jingmai≫ was used as supplementary data. Results : The term "Three Yin and Three Yang" in ≪Lingshu·Jingjin≫ is used to indicate regions of the human body, and based on this, terms with orientation were used. Just like 'anatomical position', there is a standard posture in Korean Medicine, and it may seem to be similar overall, but there is a difference in posture in the upper extremity. In ≪Lingshu·Jingjin≫, Greater Yang is the dorsal region, Lesser Yang is the lateral surface region, Yang Brightness is the anterior surface region of the human body. In the body trunk, Three Yin refers to the inner parts of the human body. However, in the lower extremity, Three Yin refers to the medial surface of the legs. The name of the individual Meridian-muscle was given following the region corresponding to Three Yin and Three Yang. In ≪Lingshu·Jingjin≫, there is a basic posture that became the standard posture derived from the description. In an upright standing position, the feet face forward, the fingers naturally extended, and the back of the hand faces outward. The fact that the posture of the thumb is naturally extended is especially reflected in ≪Lingshu·Jingjin≫. This is clearly different from the "anatomical position" and as it can be the base of all areas of acupuncture, it is suggested that it be defined as the "Standard Position of Acupuncture Medicine". Conclusions : Based on our analysis, we suggest the "Standard Position of Acupuncture Medicine" as an upright standing position, with the feet facing forward, the fingers naturally extended, the back of the hand facing outward, and the thumb naturally extended.
