This paper presents a three-dimensional displacement-based formulation to investigate the free vibration of functionally graded nanoplates resting on a Winkler-Pasternak foundation based on the nonlocal elasticity theory. The material properties of the FG nanoplate are considered to vary continuously through the thickness of the nanoplate according to the power-law distribution model. A general three-dimensional displacement field is considered for the plate, which takes into account the out-of-plane strains of the plate as well as the in-plane strains. Unlike the shear deformation theories, in the present formulation, no predetermined form for the distribution of displacements and transverse strains is considered. The equations of motion for functionally graded nanoplate are derived based on Hamilton's principle. The solution is obtained for simply-supported nanoplate, and the predicted results for natural frequencies are compared with the predictions of shear deformation theories which are available in the literature. The predictions of the present theory are discussed in detail to investigate the effects of power-law index, length-to-thickness ratio, mode numbers and the elastic foundation on the dynamic behavior of the functionally graded nanoplate. The present study presents a three-dimensional solution that is able to determine more accurate results in predicting of the natural frequencies of flexural and thickness modes of nanoplates. The effects of parameters that play a key role in the analysis and mechanical design of functionally graded nanoplates are investigated.
This paper investigates the free vibrations of cylindrical shells made of time-dependent materials for different viscoelastic models under various boundary conditions. During the extraction of equations, the displacement field is estimated through the first-order shear deformation theory taking into account the transverse normal strain effect. The constitutive equations follow Hooke's Law, and the kinematic relations are linear. The assumption of axisymmetric is included in the problem. The governing equations of thick viscoelastic cylindrical shell are determined for Maxwell, Kelvin-Voigt and the first and second types of Zener's models based on Hamilton's principle. The motion equations involve four coupled partial differential equations and an analytical method based on the elementary theory of differential equations is used for its solution. Relying on the results, the natural frequencies and mode shapes of viscoelastic shells are identified. Conducting a parametric study, we examine the effects of geometric and mechanical properties and boundary conditions, as well as the effect of transverse normal strain on natural frequencies. The results in this paper are compared against the results obtained from the finite elements analysis. The results suggest that solutions achieved from the two methods are ideally consistent in a special range.
This work treats the axisymmetric buckling of functionally graded (FG) porous annular/circular nanoplates based on modified couple stress theory (MCST). The nanoplate is located at the elastic medium which is simulated by Kerr foundation with two spring and one shear layer. The material properties of the porous FG nanostructure are assumed to vary through the nanoplate thickness based on power-law rule. Based on two variables refined plate theory, the governing equations are derived by utilizing Hamilton's principle. Applying generalized differential quadrature method (GDQM), the buckling load of the annular/circular nanoplates is obtained for different boundary conditions. The influences of different involved parameters such as boundary conditions, Kerr medium, material length scale parameter, geometrical parameters of the nanoplate, FG power index and porosity are demonstrated on the nonlinear buckling load of the annular/circular nanoplates. The results indicate that with increasing the porosity of the nanoplate, the nonlinear buckling load is decreased. In addition, with increasing the material length scale parameter to thickness ratio, the effect of spring constant of Kerr foundation on the buckling load becomes more prominent. The present results are compared with those available in the literature to validate the accuracy and reliability. A good agreement is observed between the two sets of the results.
This paper investigates the buckling behavior of carbon nanotube-reinforced composite plates supported by Kerr foundation model. In this foundation elastic of Kerr consisting of two spring layers interconnected by a shearing layer. The plates are reinforced by single-walled carbon nanotubes with four types of distributions of uniaxially aligned reinforcement material. The analytical equations are derived and the exact solutions for buckling analyses of such type's plates are obtained. The mathematical models provided, and the present solutions are numerically validated by comparison with some available results in the literature. Effect of various reinforced plates parameters such as aspect ratios, volume fraction, types of reinforcement, parameters constant factors of Kerr foundation and plate thickness on the buckling analyses of carbon nanotube-reinforced composite plates are studied and discussed.
In this article, the static responses of layered magneto-electro-thermo-elastic (METE) plates in thermal environment have been investigated through FE methods. By using Reddy's third order shear deformation theory (TSDT) in association with the Hamilton's principle, the direct and derived quantities of the coupled system have been obtained. The coupled governing equations of METE plates have been derived through condensation technique. Three layered METE plates composed of piezoelectric and piezomagnetic phases are considered for evaluation. For investigating the correctness and accuracy, the results in this article are validated with previous researches. In addition, a special attention has been paid to evaluate the influence of different electro-magnetic boundary conditions and pyrocoupling on the coupled response of METE plates. Finally, the influence of stacking sequences, magnitude of temperature load and aspect ratio on the coupled static response of METE plates are investigated in detail.
Sinusoidal shear deformation theory (SSDT) is developed here for dynamic buckling of functionally graded (FG) nano-plates. The material properties of plate are assumed to vary according to power law distribution of the volume fraction of the constituents. In order to present a realistic model, the structural damping of nano-structure is considered using Kelvin-Voigt model. The surrounding elastic medium is modeled with a novel foundation namely as orthotropic visco-Pasternak medium. Size effects are incorporated based on Eringen'n nonlocal theory. Equations of motion are derived from the Hamilton's principle. The differential quadrature method (DQM) in conjunction with Bolotin method is applied for obtaining the dynamic instability region (DIR). The detailed parametric study is conducted, focusing on the combined effects of the nonlocal parameter, orthotropic visco-Pasternak foundation, power index of FG plate, structural damping and boundary conditions on the dynamic instability of system. The results are compared with those of first order shear deformation theory and higher-order shear deformation theory. It can be concluded that the proposed theory is accurate and efficient in predicting the dynamic buckling responses of system.
An analytical solution for the nonlinear in-plane free oscillations of the suspended cable which contains the quadratic and cubic nonlinearities is investigated via the homotopy analysis method (HAM). Different from the existing analytical technique, the HAM is indeed independent of the small parameter assumption in the nonlinear vibration equation. The nonlinear equation is established by using the extended Hamilton's principle, which takes into account the effects of the geometric nonlinearity and quasi-static stretching. A non-zero equilibrium position term is introduced due to the quadratic nonlinearity in order to guarantee the rule of the solution expression. Therefore, the mth-order analytic solutions of the corresponding equation are explicitly obtained via the HAM. Numerical results show that the approximate solutions obtained by using the HAM are in good agreement with the numerical integrations (i.e., Runge-Kutta method). Moreover, the HAM provides a simple way to adjust and control the convergent regions of the series solutions by means of an auxiliary parameter. Finally, the effects of initial conditions on the linear and nonlinear frequency ratio are investigated.
This paper investigates free vibration characteristics of a rotating functionally graded (FG) beam in hygro environments. In the present study, material properties of the FG beam vary continuously through thickness direction according to the power-law which approximates material properties of FG beam. The governing differential equations of motion are derived based on Euler-Bernoulli beam theory and using the Hamilton's principle which solved utilizing a semi-analytical technique called the Differential Transform Method (DTM). In order to verify the competency and accuracy of the current analysis, a comparative study with previous researches are performed and good agreement is observed. Influences of Several important parameters such as power-law exponent, hygro environment, rotational speed and slenderness ratio on natural frequencies are investigated and discussed in detail. It is concluded that these effects play significant role on dynamic behavior of rotating FG beam in the hygro environments. Numerical results are tabulated in several tables and figures that can be serving as benchmarks for future analyses of rotating FG beams in the hygro environments.
Importance of procuring adequate knowledge about the mechanical behavior of double-layered graphene sheets (DLGSs) incensed the authors to investigate wave propagation responses of mentioned element while rested on a visco-Pasternak medium under hygro-thermal loading. A nonlocal strain gradient theory (NSGT) is exploited to present a more reliable size-dependent mechanical analysis by capturing both softening and hardening effects of small scale. Furthermore, in the framework of a classical plate theory the kinematic relations are developed. Incorporating kinematic relations with the definition of Hamilton's principle, the Euler-Lagrange equations of each of the layers are derived separately. Afterwards, combining Euler-Lagrange equations with those of the NSGT the nonlocal governing equations are written in terms of displacement fields. Interaction of the each of the graphene sheets with another one is regarded by the means of vdW model. Then, a widespread analytical solution is employed to solve the derived equations and obtain wave frequency values. Subsequently, influence of each participant variable containing nonlocal parameter, length scale parameter, foundation parameters, temperature gradient and moisture concentration is studied by plotting various figures.

For the first time, the influence of in-plane magnetic field on wave propagation of Graphene Nano-Platelets (GNPs) polymer composite nanoplates is investigated here. The impact of three- parameter Kerr foundation is also considered. There are two different reinforcement distribution patterns (i.e. uniformly and non-uniformly) while the material properties of the nanoplate are estimated through the Halpin-Tsai model and a rule of mixture. To consider the size-dependent behavior of the structure, Eringen Nonlocal Differential Model (ENDM) is utilized. The equations of wave motion derived based on a higher-order shear deformation refined theory through Hamilton's principle and an analytical technique depending on Taylor series utilized to find the wave frequency as well as phase velocity of the GNPs reinforced nanoplates. A parametric investigation is performed to determine the influence of essential phenomena, such as the nonlocality, GNPs conditions, Kerr foundation parameters, and wave number on the both longitudinal and flexural wave characteristics of GNPs reinforced nanoplates.
