A new versatile Microemulsion Gel Technology with flexible Viscosity

  • It has been shown that transparent microemulsion gels of flexibly adjustable viscosity containing less than 10% w/w surfactants can be obtained just by cooling down through a new 1-step preparation procedure (via 4 different in-situ colloidal systems) using PIT-technology with a range of emulsifiers, co-emulsifiers and lipids. They can be used for a wide scope of applications. Specific examples have been given with antiperspirant formulas that proof the stability of these thickened microemulsions even with high content of electrolytes and low pH. We propose that the structure of these microemulsion gels can be described by cross-linking of nano-fine oil droplets via an ABA-triblock copolymer. A new generation of transparent antiperspirant roll-ons with significantly improved skin tolerance can now be formulated as an attractive alternative to alcohol-based products.

Experimental and numerical identification of flutter derivatives for nine bridge deck sections

  • This paper presents the results of a study into experimental and numerical methods for the identification of bridge deck flutter derivatives. Nine bridge deck sections were investigated in a water tunnel in order to create an empirical reference set for numerical investigations. The same sections, plus a wide range of further sections, were studied numerically using a commercially available CFD code. The experimental and numerical results were compared with respect to accuracy, sensitivity, and practical suitability. Furthermore, the relevance of the effective angle of attack, the possible assessment of non-critical vibrations, and the formulation of lateral vibrations were studied. Selected results are presented in this paper. The full set of raw data is available online to provide researchers and engineers with a comprehensive benchmarking tool.

  • The purpose of this research is to discuss the excepted perils of carriers, to expose moot points arising from the applications of the excepted perils of the carriers, and then to suggests improvements them. The methodology of this research depended largely upon a combination of the related precedents, international treaties related to the excepted perils of carriers. The excepted perils of carriers in marine carriage begin with extremely limited perils based on the receptum liabilities and the absolute liability principle in English common law. Proceed via the intemperate expansion of the excepted perils by the widespread diffusion of the principle of free contract. but via the American Harter Act, The Hague Rules, The Hague Visby Rules, and The Hamburg Rules Came contracted. This study conducted an analysis of the excepted perils for the carriers and suggests improvements in them but it remains regrettable that we are not in a position to sustain them since we are lacking is precedents connected with The Hamburg rules.

Bridge flutter control using eccentric rotational actuators

  • An active mass damper system for flutter control of bridges is presented. Flutter stability of bridge structures is improved with the help of eccentric rotational actuators (ERA). By using a bridge girder model that moves in two degrees of freedom and is subjected to wind, the equations of motion of the controlled structure equipped with ERA are established. In order to take structural nonlinearities into consideration, flutter analysis is carried out by numerical simulation scheme based on a 4th-order Runge-Kutta algorithm. An example demonstrates the performance and efficiency of the proposed device. In comparison with known active mass dampers for flutter control, the movable eccentric mass damper and the rotational mass damper, the power demand is significantly reduced. This is of advantage for an implementation of the proposed device in real bridge girders. A preliminary design of a realization of ERA in a bridge girder is presented.

A Study on the Period of Carrie's Responsibility (해상운송인의 책임기간에 관한 고찰)

  • This study focuses on analysing the period of carrier's responsibility. The Hague Rules apply only while the cargo is in carriage. This period of carrier's responsibility begins when the ship' tackle is hooked on the goods for loading and continues until they are unhooked from the lifting gear after discharge. The Hague Rules are consequently said to apply from tackle to tackle. Also The Hamburg Rules lays down the basic principle that the carrier will be responsible for the goods during the time he is in charge of them at the port of loading, during the carriage and at the port of discharge. These period of carrier's responsibility should be determinated according to custom of the port of loading and discharge because of the importance of local custom in the loading and discharge of goods.
