This study the changing aspects in accessories, skin care and hair style in 「Maeil Shinmun」 from Jan. 1, 1946 to Dec. 31, 2000, and the results are as follows. In the period of 1946 to 1959, articles were about how to select accessories and the role of skin-protection cosmetics for skin care, and the cases of people wearing color makeup in pursuit of beauty increased. The hairstyle trend began to gradually shift from long hair toward short. During the time of 1960 to 1969, how to select accessories an also how to match them with clothes were dealt with in articles, and how to massage face or use pack for healthy skin was introduce. From 1970 to 1979, as the number of working women increased, proper use of accessories according to each occasion was introduced, and, for hairstyle, the way to keep their hair healthy and shine, rather than a fashion of its style itself, was emphasized. In 1980∼1989, as casual wear became so popular worldwide and a variety of way to use shoes, mufflers, scarfs, shawls, and hats to go with it were highlighted, practical fashion got in vogue and use of accessories with which individuality can be expressed in a simple way prevailed. During the time of1990 to 2000, the trend changed to the pursuit of chic using accessories that reveal wearers'individuality, and especially came the boom of charming schools and makeup lesson for skin care. The prominent trend was that men and women of the new generation expressed their individuality by having their hair partly dyed or fully dyed in various colors and tried to resemble famous entertainers. In particular, as people get more and more interested in body shape, various ways to take care of body were introduced, such as body care products and aroma treatments.

Background: Hair loss related syndromes are increasing due to environmental pollution and stress. Hair care products are mainly prepared by mixing chemicals and natural extracts, such as those obtained from medicinal plants. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of 70% ethanol extracts from the flowers of Calendula officinalis, fruit body of Phellinus linteus, and the whole plant of Houttuynia cordata on the growth of CCD-986 cells, hair follicle dermal papilla cells (HFDPC), and 3T3-L1 cells. Methods and Results: All sample extracts at all concentrations, except for that from P. linteus fruit body at $500{\mu}g/m{\ell}$, were cytotoxic to CCD-986 cells. However, none of the sample extracts were cytotoxic to HFDPC. The lipid differentiation of 3T3-L1 cells regulates hair regeneration via secretion of platelet derived growth factor. The 70% ethanol extract of H. cordata whole plant promoted hair growth. Adipogenesis rate significantly increased in a treatment concentration-dependent manner. Conclusions: These results suggest that 70% ethanol extracts of C. officinalis flower, P. linteus fruit body and H. cordata could be used for the development of hair care products.

It is considered to be important to create aesthetically beautiful style through the change of external shape, however for the hair stylists, whose beauty expression is through hair, the role of hair doctor is becoming even more important with focus to improve the hair healthiness. Hair clinic is management of hair and scalp. It is the management process of preventing damages, while improving and cultivating healthy and shiny hair. The current concept in hair management is moving from simple hair styling to emphasis at hair management. As far as hair management is concerned, it usually includes treatment tools such as shampoo, conditioner, hair treatment and scalp scaling system, which is used for diagnosis of hair condition in order to treat the scalp. As the interest of hair healthiness becoming more wide spread, so does the breadth of clinic menu. The wide choice is to fulfill the profound desire of people, whose demands are simply to have variety in their choice. This is resulting in faucets of new value-added and differentiated products. The values that make-up the hair styles consist of mainly design (trend, preference), function(styling, management convenience) and clinic(hair quality improvement, damage repair). Shampoo and conditioner have gone beyond their original function of cleansing to providing combinational functions of treatment, to care and remedy, and advanced massage effectiveness. These are, to name a few that seem to go beyond their original function to satisfy the mental healthiness in people, the King Kong shampoo of shampooings in forward-backward manner, 5-minute shampoo massage that applies sports and relaxation massage, scalp acupunctural message and aural(ear) massage. More and more people are complaining about the damaged hair and hair loss problems due to perms, dyeing and bleaching of hair, in addition to natural scalp and hair damaging factors. Such complaints have stimulated many beauty products and various hair treatment systems being introduced with focus to provide nutrition and prevent damages to scalp and hair. As the living standards improve and the desire of people is to pursue differentiated lives, their demand also increases in hair styling products to fulfill the needs of healthy and aesthetical aspects of their lives.

This study attempted to determine the effects of fermented green tea extracts on hair by using them in a perm. For this, hair is bleached, and then the fermented green tea extracts and water were supplied to the hair using a mist sprayer. Then the hair was permed, and hair damage was tested. Regarding hair moisture levels and wave formation, specifically, the morphological changes of hair were investigated with the Scanning Electron Microscope(SEM). The study results found the following. In terms of wave formation, the fermented green tea extract-based perm was much better than the general perm. In addition, hair bleaching was more serious in the latter. According to analysis on hair moisture using SEM, hair damage was more prevalent in the general perm as well. Therefore, it was confirmed that green tea extract-based perms cause less damage to the cuticle. In other words, the potential of fermented green tea extracts as a hair cosmetics material was discovered. Furthermore, it appears that the study results contribute to the development of low-irritating scalp and hair care products using the anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties of the fermented green tea extracts.

Caffeine is widely used in cosmetics and hair care products. Although its efficacy in stimulating hair growth has been confirmed in recent studies, its mechanism of action remains unelucidated. The present study aimed to determine the effects of caffeine on hair growth, with a focus on intracellular hair follicle activity. Experiments included in vitro and ex vivo tests, and a clinical study. Caffeine enhanced the cellular activity and potassium channel opening. It also promoted human hair follicle elongation. Immunohistochemical staining showed that the Ki-67 signal was significantly higher in cells treated with caffeine. These efficacies of caffeine were comprehensively demonstrated in clinical results, wherein caffeine-containing shampoo improved hair density after 24 weeks of testing. Collectively, the results of this study demonstrated that caffeine promoted hair growth and inhibited the progression of hair loss by enhancing intracellular activity of hair follicles.

세정 과정에서 물에 의한 단백질 소실을 차폐막을 통해서 방지 하고자 먼저 모발 내부의 물 거동 경로를 파악하였다. 이를 위해서 소수성을 가지는 건강한 모발과, 모발 내부는 정상이지만 표면의 최외곽 지질층에서 18-methyleicosanoic acid (18-MEA)만 소실시켜 친수성이 된 모발과, 다시 표면에 18-MEA를 결합시킨 회복모를 이용해서 모발 수분의 거동을 파악하였다. 모발에 열을 가할 때 일어나는 수분 증발에 따른 질량 변화를 관찰한 결과 표면이 소수성인 모발들은 39 s와 151 s의 두개의 시간 상수로 감소하였다. 이에 반해 표면이 친수성으로 변한 손상 모발에서는 83 s의 하나의 빠른 시간 상수로 감소함을 확인하였는데, 이는 모발 내부에 있는 비결합과 결합 수분들이 외곽으로 빠져나올때 모발 표면에 소수성 막이 없음으로써 바로 용출됨을 반증한다. 따라서 세정과정에서 모발 내부의 단백질 용출을 효율적으로 방지하기 위해서는 모발 표면을 소수성 코팅하여 물분자의 거동을 저지시킬 필요가 있을 것이라는 가정한 결과 친수성 polyethylene glycol (PEG)를 코팅한 경우 179 ㎍/mL의 단백질이 용출한데 반해서 소수성 polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS)를 코팅한 모발은 보다 적은 148 ㎍/mL를 용출하였으며, 표면을 소수성 및 친수성으로 코팅하여 모발 내부 단백질을 검량하여 비교하였다. 마침내 소수성 차폐막이 세정 과정에서 모발 단백질 소실을 방어하는 방법이 됨을 확인하였고, 이 소수성 지표를 lateral force microscopy (LFM) 값으로 환산하여 정리하였다. 마침내 이 연구 결과물은 세정 과정에서 발생하는 단백질 소실을 소수성 코팅막을 부여함으로써 막을 수 있는 모발 세정제품 개발에 기여할 수 있다.

본 연구에서는 낮은 연령층과 여성에게도 확대되고 있는 탈모와 문제성 두피에 대한 기초 연구자료를 제공하고자, 문제성 두피를 가진 20대 여성을 대상으로 L-Menthol, Salicylic acid, Dexpanthenol이 함유되어 있는 B사의 헤어 앰플을 매일 사용하였을 때, 4주 후 두피 및 모발에 미치는 영향을 알아보고자 하였다. 본 연구 결과, L-Menthol, Salicylic acid, Dexpanthenol이 함유되어 있는 B사의 앰플을 사용하였을 때 연구 대상자들의 두피 상태가 실험 전에 비하여 염증 완화, 두피 열 및 홍반 감소, 가려움증과 모발 빠짐 감소, 청결해진 모공 상태, 모발 굵기 증가 등 개선 효과를 보였으며, 연구 대상자들의 두피 자가진단을 통해 실험 전과 후의 두피 만족도, 두피 생기와 탄력, 열 발생도, 세정 후 두피 당김, 가려움증에 대한 개선 효과가 나타났음이 확인되었다. 이와같은 연구 결과를 통하여 L-Menthol, Salicylic acid, Dexpanthenol이 함유된 제품이 문제성 두피 및 모발 개선에 도움이 될 것으로 사료되어 진다.

Liquid crystal known as a rheological barrier to coaleseence of oil dorplets. increases. emulsion stability, water-holding capacity and promotes active material penetration to skin. Some investigation for its rheological characteristics have been reported but its relations to consumer perception have been rarely published. In this study oil/water emulsion and oil/liquid crystal/water systems were manufactured using the same composition of Behenyltrimethylammonium chloride/Cetostearyl alcohol/Lanolin oil. and rheological properties of each system were investigated with Cone and Plate rheometer. The formation of liquid crystalline phase was observed with polarized microscope and Differential Scanning Calorimeter. Continuous shear experiment, creep yield and water holding capacity were measured for oil/water and oil/liquid crystal/water systems. The results were compared with sensory evaluations. Oil/liquid crystal/water system showed higher viscosity at the same shear rate, higher viscoelasticity and higher yield stress than oil/water system. These properties were expected to show good spreadability and excellent richness without waxiness I hair care products of creme type. This expectation was consistent with the results of sensory experiments. Water-holding capacity was evaluated by measuring residual water of specimens at specific temperature and relative humidity, Oil/liquid crystal/water system was proved to have ability to hold water in comparison with oil/water system. The results indicated that oil/liquid crystal/water system was of benefit to rheological properties creme type hair care products.

Objectives : The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effects of assistive products usage on activity of daily living for the beneficiary older adults people in Korean long-term care insurance system. The study subjects were divided to assistive products users and non-users among the beneficiary older adults based on Korean long-term care insurance system to compare function improvement of the activity of daily living. Methods : In national wide 12 community elderly care center enrolled the National Health Insurance Corporation, The numbers of 281 beneficiary older adults(long-term care Grade I: 66, Grade II: 58, Grade III: 157) participated in this study. This survey assessment tool for activity of daily living was used the long-term care assessment instrument of the physical functions in the law of Korean long-term care insurance. The function items of Activity of daily living were included in clothing, washing, tooth brushing, bathing, eating, posture converting, stand sitting, move sitting, out of room, using toilet, controlling of stool, controlling of urine, washing hair. According to independence to complete dependence functioning level, remarks pointed 1 to 3 points. The data were analyzed by chi-square, two-way anova using SPSS V. 12.0. Results : The results appeared that the mean score of the functions in activity of daily living of assistive products users was a 27.60, and that of non-users was a 30.66. Assistive products were not effected in Grade I and II recipients, but that effected in Grade III recipients. Conclusion : Preparing for activation of assistive products based Korean long-term care insurance system, the result application as follows is possible. The usage of assistive products could improve the function of daily living activity in older adults. Related to Grade III beneficiary elderly people were improved function in activity of daily living by using assistive products, it is necessary to extend coverage the non-eligible elderly people in Korean long-term care insurance system.

Consumer preferences for food are influenced by personal values and personalities. Social, economic, and cultural developments in modern society have influenced consumer lifestyles and brought about multiple changes in consumption patterns. In the beauty market, consumers are now more interested in specialized offerings, and an increasing number of people are opting for customized products in a market structure where mass production has led to mass consumption. Hair products are now manufactured as functional cosmetics designed to maintain and improve scalp health and hair growth by removing waste from the scalp and adding fragrance for cleanliness, breaking away from the concept of general cosmetics. Many studies have focused on personalized products in the cosmetics industry. This study aimed to accurately determine scalp types and further diagnose individual scalp conditions using a scalp diagnostic device. Based on the diagnoses, it recommended and provided personalized shampoos in order to understand how these shampoos improved scalp health. By objectively analyzing and comparing scalp conditions before and after using customized shampoos, the study demonstrated a significant effect on scalp health. The results of this study confirmed the perception and effectiveness of personalized shampoos.
