  • In this paper, we suggest an advanced algorithm, to recognize pedestrian/non-pedestrian using differential haar-like feature, which applies Adaboost algorithm to make a strong classification from weak classifications. First, we extract two feature vectors: horizontal haar-like feature and vertical haar-like feature. For the next, we calculate the proposed feature vector using differential haar-like method. And then, a strong classification needs to be obtained from weak classifications for composite recognition method using the differential area of horizontal and vertical haar-like. In the proposed method, we use one feature vector and one strong classification for the first stage of recognition. Based on our experiment, the proposed algorithm shows higher recognition rate compared to the traditional method for the pedestrian and non-pedestrian.

  • Adaboost is widely used for Haar-like feature boosting algorithm in Face Detection. It shows very effective performance on single distribution model. But when detecting front and side face images at same time, Adaboost shows it's limitation on multiple distribution data because it uses linear combination of basic classifier. This paper suggest the HDCT, modified decision tree algorithm for Haar-like features. We still tested the performance of HDCT compared with Adaboost on multiple distributed image recognition.

  • This paper proposes a fast and efficient Haar-like feature selection algorithm for training classifier used in object detection. Many features selected by Haar-like feature selection algorithm and existing AdaBoost algorithm are either similar in shape or overlapping due to considering only feature's error rate. The proposed algorithm calculates similarity of features by their shape and distance between features. Fast and efficient feature selection is made possible by removing selected features and features with high similarity from feature set. FERET face database is used to compare performance of classifiers trained by previous algorithm and proposed algorithm. Experimental results show improved performance comparing classifier trained by proposed method to classifier trained by previous method. When classifier is trained to show same performance, proposed method shows 20% reduction of features used in classification.

  • This paper proposed a human body posture recognition program based on haar-like feature and hand activity detection. Its distinguishing features are the combination of face detection and motion detection. Firstly, the program uses the haar-like feature face detection to receive the location of human face. The haar-like feature is provided with the advantages of speed. It means the less amount of calculation the haar-like feature can exclude a large number of interference, and it can discriminate human face more accurately, and achieve the face position. Then the program uses the frame subtraction to achieve the position of human body motion. This method is provided with good performance of the motion detection. Afterwards, the program recognises the human body motion by calculating the relationship of the face position with the position of human body motion contour. By the test, we know that the recognition rate of this algorithm is more than 92%. The results show that, this algorithm can achieve the result quickly, and guarantee the exactitude of the result.

  • Viola-Jones algorithm, a very effective real-time object detection method, uses Haar-like features to constitute weak classifiers. A Haar-like feature is made up of at least two rectangles each of which corresponds to either positive or negative areas and the feature value is computed by subtracting the sum of pixel values in the negative area from that of pixel values in the positive area. Compared to the conventional Haar-like feature which is made up of more than one rectangle, in this paper, we present a couple of new rectangular features whose feature values are computed either by the sum or by the variance of pixel values in a rectangle. By the use of these rectangular features in combination with the conventional Haar-like features, we can select additional features which have been excluded in the conventional Viola-Jones algorithm where every features are the combination of contiguous bright and dark areas of an object. In doing so, we can enhance the performance of object detection without any computational overhead.

  • In this paper, we propose a rotation invariant face detection method using Haar-like feature variation. Previous approaches using rectangular features can be calculated very fast. But rectangular features is weak in rotated face. Rotated Haar-like features can get high accuracy, but the performance is slow because it can't use the integral image. Our method vary Haar-like features keeping rectangular. this method makes the performance a bit slow, but gives better accuracy.

  • In this paper, we propose a thermal imagery-based object detection algorithm for low-light level nighttime surveillance system. Many features selected by Haar-like feature selection algorithm and existing Adaboost algorithm are often vulnerable to noise and problems with similar or overlapping feature set for learning samples. It also removes noise from the feature set from the surveillance image of the low-light night environment, and implements it using the lightweight extended Haar feature and adaboost learning algorithm to enable fast and efficient real-time feature selection. Experiments use extended Haar feature points to recognize non-predictive objects with motion in nighttime low-light environments. The Adaboost learning algorithm with video frame 800*600 thermal image as input is implemented with CUDA 9.0 platform for simulation. As a result, the results of object detection confirmed that the success rate was about 90% or more, and the processing speed was about 30% faster than the computational results obtained through histogram equalization operations in general images.

  • This paper proposes a Haar Wavelet Feature Detector (HWFD) based on the Haar wavelet transform and average box filter. By decomposing the original image using the Haar wavelet transform, the proposed detector obtains the variance information of the image, making it possible to extract more distinctive features from the original image. For detection of interest points that represent the regions whose variance is the highest among their neighbor regions, we apply the average box filter to evaluate the local variance information and use the integral image technique for fast computation. Due to utilization of the Haar wavelet transform and the average box filter, the proposed detector is robust to illumination change, scale change, and rotation of the image. Experimental results show that even though the proposed method detects fewer interest points, it achieves higher repeatability, higher efficiency and higher matching accuracy compared with the DoG detector and Harris corner detector.
