  • N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) receptors are ionic glutamine receptors involved in brain development and functions such as learning and memory formation. NMDA receptor inhibition is associated with autophagy activation. In this study, we investigated whether the NMDA receptor antagonists, memantine and ifenprodil, induce autophagy in human retinal pigment epithelial cells (ARPE-19) to remove N-retinylidene-N-retinylethanolamine (A2E), an intracellular lipofuscin component. Fluorometric analysis using labeled A2E (A2E-BDP) and confocal microscopic examination revealed that low concentrations of NMDA receptor antagonists, which did not induce cytotoxicity, significantly reduced A2E accumulation in ARPE-19 cells. In addition, memantine and ifenprodil activated autophagy in ARPE-19 cells as measured by microtubule-associated protein 1A/1B-light chain3-II formation and phosphorylated p62 protein levels. Further, to understand the correlation between memantine- and ifenprodil-mediated A2E degradation and autophagy, autophagy-related 5 (ATG5) was depleted using RNA interference. Memantine and ifenprodil failed to degrade A2E in ARPE-19 cells lacking ATG5. Taken together, our study indicates that the NMDA receptor antagonists, memantine and ifenprodil, can remove A2E accumulated in cells via autophagy activation in ARPE-19 cells.

  • As the importance of artificial intelligence grows rapidly and emerges as a leader in technology, it is becoming an important variable in the next-generation industrial system along with the robot industry. In this study, a safety system was developed using deep learning technology to provide worker safety in a robot workplace environment. The implemented safety system has multiple cameras installed with various viewing directions to avoid blind spots caused by interference. Workers in various scenario situations were detected, and appropriate robot response scenarios were implemented according to the worker's risk level through IO communication. For human detection, the YOLO algorithm, which is widely used in object detection, was used, and a separate robot class was added and learned to compensate for the problem of misrecognizing the robot as a human. The performance of the implemented system was evaluated by operator detection performance by applying various operator scenarios, and it was confirmed that the safety system operated stably.

  • Conventionally, biological manipulations have been performed manually with long training and pretty low success rates. To overcome this problem, a novel biological manipulation system has been developed to manipulate biological cells without any interference of a human operator, In this paper, we demonstrate a development of tole-autonomous Cell Manipulation System (CMS) using an image processing at a remote site. The CMS consists of two manipulators, a plane stage, and an optical microscope. We developed deformable template-model-matching algorithm for micro objects and pattern matching algorithm of end effect for these manipulators in order to control manipulators and the stage. Through manipulation of biological cells using these algorithms, the performance of the CMS is verified experimentally.

  • This paper describes the possibility of analyzing gait pattern from the variation of the lower leg electrical impedance. This impedance is measured by the four-electrode method. Two current electrodes are applied to the thigh, knee, and foot, and two potential electrodes are applied to the lateral, medial, and posterior position of lower leg. The correlation coefficients of the joint angle and the impedance change from human leg movement was obtained using electrogoniometer and 4ch impedance measurement system developed in this study. We found the optimal electrode position for ankle, knee and hipjoint movements based on high correlation coefficient, least interference, and maximum magnitude of impedance change. The correlation coefficients of the ankle, knee, and the hip movements -0.87, 0.957 and 0.80. respectively. From such features of the lower leg impedance, it has been made clear that different movement patterns exhibit different impedance patterns and impedance level. This system showed possibility that lower leg movement could be easily measured by impedance measurement system with a few skin-electrodes.

  • This article describes the automated incubator designs for white mushrooms growing. Mongolia has a very long and cold winter, so the process of growing mushrooms is short. Therefore, we aim to design an automated incubator system that has created a favorable artificial environment for mushroom growing by examining the necessary conditions for mushroom growing. This system was designed to be able to hold for some time the required levels of soil moisture, air humidity, soil temperature, air temperature, and CO2 levels. This article presents the results of a system-based experiment that allows you to grow mushrooms for 30 days without human interference.

  • This paper develops a novel robust information hiding technique that uses channel codes derived from the error-correcting coder. The message encoded by the cover encoder is hidden in DCT transform domain of the cover image. The method exploits the sensitivity of human eyes to adaptively embed a visually recognizable message in an image without affecting the perceptual quality of the underlying cover image. Experimental results show that the proposed data hiding technique is robust to cropping operations, lossy JPEG compression, noise interference and secure against known stego attacks. The performance of the proposed scheme with turbo coder is superior to that without turbo coder.

  • In this paper, optical noise is reduced using a differential detector in an 1.3$\mu$m optical wireless system which is more safe for human eye than 0.8$\mu$m optical wireless systems. The differential detector is composed of a InGaAs photodiode and a Si photodiode. This is a very simple and cost effective method to reduce the noise interference from incandescent lamps.

  • A phytosociological study of forest vegetation of Mt. Kaya was carried out from August 1988 to September 1992. The forest vegetation of the area was classified into 3 communities (Quercus monogolica community, Lindera erythrocarpa community, Pinus densiflora community) and 3 subunits (Rhododendron mucronulatum subunit, Platycarya strobilacea subunit, typical subunit of Pinusdensiflora community). The Pinus densiflora community was located at the lower altitudes (100~300m) than those of other communities. The Lindera erythrocarpa community was located at the upper altitude (500m). Most of the inverstigated area were occupied by the secondary forest of Pinus densiflora community in the actual vegetation map and the profile diagram, suggesting that it was frequently destroyed by human interference

  • A phytosociological study of forest vegetation was carried out in mt. komdan in the period from October 7,1985 to October 15 1989. The forst vegetation could be classified into 7 communities ; quercus monbolica, pinus densiflora, quercus dentata, pinus koraiensis, larix leptoletsis, pinus rigida, castanea creaneta. The principal forest community in mt. komdan-the quercus mongulica community- was distributed mainly at the altitude of 400~600m and the importance value was 187.1. The pinus desiflora community was 137.9. since pinus koraiensis, larix laptolepsis, pinus rigida, castanea creanata, etc. werw planted in this region, It seems that it was frequently disturbed by human interference, especilly, the destruction of the vegetation in the recreation ground of paldang, the regions around the village of hasangok-ri and the main routes for mountain climbing appeared severely.
