This study was conducted to describe trends of health services research (HSR) in Korea since 1968 and analyse the relevance of HSR to changes in health policy. Research methods are as follows: firstly, HSR articles were selected from 4 HSR related journals implicitly. Secondly, classification system of HSR was developed and then applied to previously selected papers in order to describe research trends. Finally, the frequency rankings of articles in research areas were compared with rankings in order of the importance of research area rated by experts. As a resesult, HSR articles have increased with time and three main research areas are health programme, health care financing, and health care organization/management. And many articles have been related to the efficiency and quality of health care since 1990. It seems HSR articles had little relevance to changes in health policy and policy environment. Especially, the recently disputed policy topic, namely the separation of prescription from disposing, has not received little attention since 1990. These findings suggest there is an urgent need for the reflection on HSR direction in Korea.
This paper investigates several existing techniques to reduce high-availability seamless redundancy (HSR) traffic. HSR is a redundancy protocol for Ethernet networks that provides duplicated frames for separate physical paths with zero recovery time. This feature makes it very useful for real-time and mission-critical applications, such as military applications and substation automation systems. However, the major drawback of HSR is that it generates too much unnecessary redundant traffic in HSR networks. This drawback degrades network performance and may cause congestion and delay. Several HSR traffic reduction techniques have been proposed to reduce the redundant traffic in HSR networks, resulting in the improvement of network performance. In this paper, we provide an overview of these HSR traffic reduction techniques in the literature. The operational principles, advantages, and disadvantages of these techniques are investigated and summarized. We also provide a traffic performance comparison of these HSR traffic reduction techniques.
A novel approach, hybrid surface rainfall (KNU-HSR) technique developed by Kyungpook Natinal University, was utilized for improving the radar rainfall estimation. The KNU-HSR technique estimates radar rainfall at a 2D hybrid surface consistings of the lowest radar bins that is immune to ground clutter contaminations and significant beam blockage. Two HSR techniques, static and dynamic HSRs, were compared and evaluated in this study. Static HSR technique utilizes beam blockage map and ground clutter map to yield the hybrid surface whereas dynamic HSR technique additionally applies quality index map that are derived from the fuzzy logic algorithm for a quality control in real time. The performances of two HSRs were evaluated by correlation coefficient (CORR), total ratio (RATIO), mean bias (BIAS), normalized standard deviation (NSD), and mean relative error (MRE) for ten rain cases. Dynamic HSR (CORR=0.88, BIAS= $-0.24mm\;hr^{-1}$, NSD=0.41, MRE=37.6%) shows better performances than static HSR without correction of reflectivity calibration bias (CORR=0.87, BIAS= $-2.94mm\;hr^{-1}$, NSD=0.76, MRE=58.4%) for all skill scores. Dynamic HSR technique overestimates surface rainfall at near range whereas it underestimates rainfall at far ranges due to the effects of beam broadening and increasing the radar beam height. In terms of NSD and MRE, dynamic HSR shows the best results regardless of the distance from radar. Static HSR significantly overestimates a surface rainfall at weaker rainfall intensity. However, RATIO of dynamic HSR remains almost 1.0 for all ranges of rainfall intensity. After correcting system bias of reflectivity, NSD and MRE of dynamic HSR are improved by about 20 and 15%, respectively.

High-availability seamless redundancy (HSR) is a fault-tolerant protocol for Ethernet networks that provides two frame copies for each frame sent. Each copy is forwarded on a separate physical path. HSR is a potential candidate for several fault-tolerant Ethernet applications, including smart-grid communications. However, the major drawback of the HSR protocol is that it generates and circulates unnecessary frames within connected rings regardless of the presence of a destination node in the ring. This downside degrades network performance and can deplete network resources. Two simple but efficient approaches have previously been proposed to solve the above problem: quick removing (QR) and port locking (PL). In this paper, we will present a hybrid approach, QRPL, by combining QR with PL, resulting in further traffic reductions. Our analysis showed that network traffic is significantly reduced for a large-sized HSR connected ring network compared to the standard HSR protocol, QR, and PL.

In this paper, we present an algorithm called redundant logical paths (RLP) for efficient HSR traffic reduction. It creates redundant logical paths between each HSR node and all the other nodes. Eventually, a logical full-meshed network or paths will be established among all HSR node types, except the Quadbox type, which is used only for interconnection. The logical full-meshed network will be used instead of using the standard HSR protocol that depends on the concepts of the duplication and forwarding of the received frame until it reaches the destination node. The RLP algorithm results in significantly less frame traffic because there is no random forwarding as in the standard HSR protocol. For the sample network in this paper simulation results showed a 61.5-80% reduction in network frame traffic compared to the standard HSR. Our algorithm will avoid latency issues in the network and even network congestion, thus improving network efficiency.

One of the most important requirements for the Ethernet-based automobile is the reliability. In order to achieve this goal, we propose using the High-availability Seamless Redundancy (HSR) protocol (IEC 62439-3 clause 5) in these networks. The HSR protocol provides duplicated frame copies for each sent frame, which means that the destination node will receive at least one copy in case the second copy is lost due to a failure. In other words, there will be no network stoppage even if failure occurs. Moreover, the destination node will receive at least one frame copy with zero-recovery time (seamless) and it will not need to wait to receive the other copy if the first one is lost, which occurs it in the Ethernet standard, as a result of reconfiguration of the network paths. However, the main drawback of the HSR protocol is the unnecessary redundant traffic that is caused by the duplicated frames. Several solutions, including QR, VRing, RURT, and DVP, have already been proposed to improve the traffic performance of the HSR protocol. In this paper, we propose three automobile network topologies. each of which has pros and cons depending on the automobile requirements. Then we applied the HSR protocol with and without the QR and VRing approaches to each scenario. The comparison among these topologies depend on the traffic performance result for each of them. The QR and VRing approaches give a better traffic reduction percentage, ranging from 48% to 75% compared to the standard HSR protocol. Therefore they could limit the redundant traffic in automobile networks when the HSR protocol is used instead of the Ethernet network, which does not provide any seamless recovery if a failure occurs.

The operation of high-speed rail (HSR) has an effect on the agglomeration economies, and the impact is shown as a relocation of individual firm and worker to where business activity can be maximized. The proximity to the HSR station could be considered as a core district to maximize the industrial benefit through the HSR network. From this perspective, this study considers the agglomeration effect of HSR within the HSR station-area and analyzed the agglomerated spatial pattern through hotspot analysis by service industry in the cases of Korea and Japan using GIS. This study analyzed the service industry within 1km distance from 8 HSR stations of Korea and 4 Kyushu Shinkansen stations of Japan. The results suggest that the hotspot patterns are observed in the service industry within 1km distance from the HSR station of Korea and Japan, except for two HSR stations of Gupo station and Kagoshima-Chuo station. Leisure, amusement, association, and other specific service industries could be affected by HSR passengers and knowledge-spillovers through HSR station. Therefore, the observed hotspot districts near the HSR station-area could explain an agglomeration pattern of the service industry through a closeness to the HSR station. Further, we could expect that the impact of HSR affects the service industry, and the impact could attract business activities of the service-area to maximize their benefit from HSR travelers. With the result, it is required to build up a supportive policy to maximize the HSR's impact on the service industry when considering the HSR station-area development.

Following the success of the KTX (Korea's first high-speed rail system) with a maximum operating speed of 300 km/h opened in 2004, experts in Korea started a research on the development of key technologies for high-speed rail (HSR) with a top speed of 500 km/h. This paper is a preliminary analysis of the research. It first reviews HSR experiences around the world, in terms of traffic and economic impacts of HSR, and presents a preliminary analysis of 500 km/h HSR in Korea. It is estimated that introduction of 500 km/h HSR with a 54% of travel time reduction will increase HSR passengers to about 9.8 million (about 78% of market share) between Seoul and Busan. It is a 23% of growth compared to the base scenario. Along with conventional rail passengers, air passengers are expected to be significantly impacted by the 500 km/h HSR. As a function of HSR travel time, the estimated market shares of both KTX and 500 km/h HSR compared to air are very comparable with previous international experiences. Based on the forecasted traffic, estimated total benefits are $758 million per year.
The high-availability seamless redundancy (HSR) protocol is one of the most important redundancy IEC standards that has garnered a great deal of attention because it offers a redundancy with zero recovery time, which is a feature that is required by most of the modern substation, smart grid, and industrial field applications. However, the HSR protocol consumes a lot of network bandwidth compared to the Ethernet standard. This is due to the duplication process for every sent frame in the HSR networks. In this paper, a novel algorithm known as the reducing multicast traffic (RMT) is presented to reduce the unnecessary redundant multicast traffic in HSR networks by limiting the spreading of the multicast traffic to only the rings that have members associated with that traffic instead of spreading the traffic into all the network parts, as occurs in the standard HSR protocol. The mathematical and the simulation analyses show that the RMT algorithm offers a traffic reduction percentage with a range of about 60-87% compared to the standard HSR protocol. Consequently, the RMT algorithm will increase the network performance by freeing more bandwidth so as to reduce HSR network congestion and also to minimize any intervention from the network administrator that would be required when using traditional traffic filtering techniques.
Heat shock RNA 1 (HSR1) is described as a "eukaryotic heat-sensing noncoding RNA" that regulates heat shock response in human and other eukaryotic cells. Highly conserved HSR1 sequences have been identified from humans, hamsters, Drosophila, Caenorhabditis elegans, and Arabidopsis. In a previous study, however, it was suggested that HSR1 had originated from a bacterial genome. HSR1 showed no detectible nucleotide sequence similarity to any eukaryotic sequences but harbored a protein coding region that showed amino-acid sequence similarity to bacterial voltage-gated chloride channel proteins. The bacterial origin of HSR1 was not convincible because the nucleotide sequence similarity was marginal. In this study, we have found that a genomic contig sequence of Comamonas testosteroni strain JL14 contained a sequence virtually identical to that of HSR1, decisively confirming the bacterial origin of HSR1. Thus, HSR1 is an exogenous RNA, which can ectopically trigger heat shock response in eukaryotes. Therefore, it is no longer appropriate to cite HSR1 as a "eukaryotic functional noncoding RNA."
