  • Self-organizing hierarchical ad hoc network (SOHAN) is a new ad-hoc network architecture designed to improve the scalability properties of conventional 'flat' ad hoc networks. This network architecture consists of three tiers of ad-hoc nodes, i.e.. access points, forwarding nodes and mobile nodes. This paper presents a topology discovery and routing protocol for the self-organization of SOHAN. We propose a cross-layer path metric based on link quality and MAC delay which plays a key role in producing an optimal cluster-based hierarchical topology with high throughput capacity. The topology discovery protocol provides the basis for routing which takes place in layer 2.5 using MAC addresses. The routing protocol is based on AODV with appropriate modifications to take advantage of the hierarchical topology and interact with the discovery protocol. Simulation results are presented which show the improved performance as well as scalability properties of SOHAN in terms of through-put capacity, end-to-end delay, packet delivery ratio and control overhead.

  • In this paper, we analyze the connectivity of cognitive radio ad-hoc networks in a log-normal shadow fading environment. Considering secondary user and primary user's locations and primary user's active state are randomly distributed according to a homogeneous Poisson process and taking into account the spectrum sensing efficiency of secondary user, we derive mathematical models to investigate the connectivity of cognitive radio ad-hoc networks in three aspects and compare with the connectivity of ad-hoc networks. First, from the viewpoint of a secondary user, we study the communication probability of that secondary user. Second, we examine the possibility that two secondary users can establish a direct communication link between them. Finally, we extend to the case of finding the probability that two arbitrary secondary users can communicate via multi-hop path. We verify the correctness of our analytical approach by comparing with simulations. The numerical results show that in cognitive radio ad-hoc networks, high fading variance helps to remarkably improve connectivity behavior in the same condition of secondary user's density and primary user's average active rate. Furthermore, the impact of shadowing on wireless connection probability dominates that of primary user's average active rate. Finally, the spectrum sensing efficiency of secondary user significantly impacts the connectivity features. The analysis in this paper provides an efficient way for system designers to characterize and optimize the connectivity of cognitive radio ad-hoc networks in practical wireless environment.

  • An ad-hoc network is a group of mobile nodes acting as routers. The of hoc node has a precondition of mobility, allowing path to be easily disconnected when transmitting data, thereby increasing network overhead. However, most of hoc routing protocols set up the path based only on the number of hops without considering other practical factors. Here we consider a path with the least substantial number of transmission (SNT) from source to destination based on reliabilities of links. This includes retransmissions due to unreliable links. In this paper, an efficient ad-hoc link reliability based routing (PU) protocol suitable for mobile ah-hoc network in terms of SNT, is proposed. The network overhead and data transmission delay ore reduced, by considering both ad-hoc link reliability and the number of hops. Our empirical performance evaluation comparing to AODV (8) shows that the enhancement is up to about 31% for SNT depending upon the mobility of nodes.

  • An ad hoc network is infra(Base Sstation or Access Point) free wireless mobile communication technology. Mobile nodes function as routers and servers in ad hoc networks. Many routing protocols for ad hoc network have been proposed. If any route is broken owing to moving node, source must repair broken route again. But route repair technology after route collapses is not suitable to transmit real-time data packet for QoS guarantee. So this paper presents route repair technology that prevents route from breaking. If intermediate node moves to critical section, the node issues handoff packet and sends the packet to the next node. After next node receives handoff packet, the node broadcasts route request packet to the previous node for intermediate node. Finally, even if intermediate node moves out of the routing region, the source can continuously transmit data packets to the destination through the new path.

  • Recently, several MAC protocols using the directional antennas have been proposed for wireless mobile ad hoc networks. In the theory, it can improve spatial reuse and communication throughput in the Mobile Ad-hoc networks. But, or However even though direction transmissions using the Directional MAC protocol(D-MAC) are expected to provide significant improvements, they causes other problems such as deafness problem and fairness problem. In this paper, we analyze the D-MAC protocol in Mobile Ad-hoc network for Vehicle to vehicle(V2V) communication. Through the results of the analysis, We the fundamental problem of D-MAC protocol and finally we suggest new D-MAC protocol for V2V networks.

  • Mobile Ad-hoc Networks provide communication without a centralized infrastructure, which makes them suitable for communication in disaster areas or when quick deployment is needed. On the other hand, they are susceptible to malicious exploitation and have to face different challenges at different layers due to its open Ad-hoc network structure which lacks previous security measures. Denial of service (DoS) attack is one that interferes with the radio transmission channel causing a jamming attack. In this kind of attack, an attacker emits a signal that interrupts the energy of the packets causing many errors in the packet currently being transmitted. In harsh environments where there is constant traffic, a jamming attack causes serious problems; therefore measures to prevent these types of attacks are required. The objective of this paper is to carry out the simulation of the jamming attack on the nodes and determine the DoS attacks in OPNET so as to obtain better results. We have used effective anomaly detection system to detect the malicious behaviour of the jammer node and analyzed the results that deny channel access by jamming in the mobile Ad-hoc networks.

  • The TCP protocol is originally designed for wired network, however it performs very poor in wireless network due to different nature of wireless network from wired networks. In terms of TCP performance improvement in wireless Ad-hoc network, many researches show that small congestion window size of TCP connection can improve TCP performance. We propose a new TCP algorithm to improve TCP performance in wireless Ad-hoc network. The basic idea of our approach is that TCP receiver estimates the optimum window size and then sets congestion window limit of TCP sender to an optimum value by using the advertised window field in TCP ACK packet. From extensive computer simulation, the proposed algorithm shows superior performance than traditional TCP protocols in terms of packet delivery ratio and packet loss.

  • Overlay multicast is proposed as an alternative approach for providing muticast services. A logical infrastructure is built to form an overlay network on top of the physical layer. In this paper, we propose an efficient overlay multicast in wireless ad hoc networks. The overlay multicast tree adapts to the changes in underlying networks. The multicast tree adjusted according to the local member information.
