  • The purpose of this study is to recognize the differences of visual evaluation by variations in silhouette of the wide pants. The stimuli are 9 samples: One control group, 3 variations of the width of hem line and 3 variations of the silhouette. The data has been obtained from 57 fashion college students. The data has been analyzed by Factor Analysis, Anova, Scheffe's Test. The results of the study are as follows: The visual evaluation by silhouette of wide pants are composed of 5 factors(i.e., physical characteristics, complexity, attractiveness, originality, and stiffness and softness). Among these factors, the physical characteristic is evaluated to be the most important factor. The straight pants were the most attractive and modern when the width of the hem line was 66cm (1st stage), while the pants were uncomfortable and unwearable when the width of the hem line was 98cm (3rd stage). The bell-bottom pants were evaluated to be the most attractive with the average width of the hem line. When the width of the hem line of the flare pants were too wide, it was uncomfortable and unwearable but had its unique originality. When the width of the hem line was narrow, the visual image changed as the pants' silhouette varied. However, when the width of the hem line was wide, the visual image did not change by silhouette.

  • Objectives The eye movement (EM) has been reported to play a role in enhancing the retrieval of episodic memories and reducing effects of fearful episodes in the past and worries for the futures. However, it is still unclear in the mechanism of EM in normal subjects. We examined the horizontal eye movement (HEM) effect using an aiding apparatus on mental health indices including negative and positive psychological factors, and psychophysiological measures such as heart rate variability and quantitative electroencepaholography (qEEG) in healthy subjects. Methods Twenty eight healthy subjects were recruited and randomly allocated into two groups : active HEM group and control group. The active HEM group conducted the HEM training with usual stress management audio-intervention using the apparatus inducing eye movement once a day for 14 days. The control group also conducted the same training once a day for 14 days, however, the saccadic eye movement was not included in this training. Psychological measurements, neurocognitive function tests, heart rate variability measurement and qEEG were conducted before and after the training in both groups. Results In the active HEM group, sleep status using Sleep Quality Scale (SQS) positive factors significantly increased after the training. By contrast, scores on the negative items of Psychological Well-Being Scale (PWBS), and negative items of the Life Orientation Test-Revised (LOT-R) were significantly decreased after the training. The percentage of delta amplitude (1-3 Hz) in qEEG significantly decreased after the HEM training. The percentage of alpha amplitude (8-12 Hz) significantly increased after HEM training. The change of delta amplitude in the active HEM group was positively correlated with the change of sleep satisfaction of Visual Analogue Scale (VAS), and the change of alpha amplitude was negatively correlated with depression of VAS, anxiety of VAS and Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI). Conclusions The HEM training improved sleep quality and well-being, and sense of optimism. The HEM training also increased alpha amplitude and decreased delta amplitude in qEEG. The qEEG changes were well correlated with subjective improvement of mental health indices in healthy subjects. These results suggest some evidences that HEM training using the apparatus that induces EM would be helpful in improving subjective mental health in healthy subjects. Further study with larger samples size would be needed.

  • Methods of the flare skirt pattern making are presented variously among foreign and domestic test books. Three of them are : First the method is using the basic skirt pattern, secondly the method is quartering rectangle of skirt length $\times\frac{W}4$, finally the method is substituting waist size for formula. But, these books don't include the calculating method of the hem circumference. This calculating method express the shape of flare skirt and the using length of trimming -race and frill-. This study aims at proposing the calculating formula of the hem circumference and the standardization of pattern making technical skill. The result were as follows. 1. The calculating formula of hem circumference had regular ratio in $180^{\circ}$, $270^{\circ}$ and $360^{\circ}C$ flare. That was (HEM) = $(\frac{(5\;{\times}\;(W\;+\;1)}{4\;{\times}\;A}+(SK.L))\;{\times}\;A\;{\times}\;0.785$. A was 4 in $180^{\circ}$, 6 in $270^{\circ}$, 8 in $360^{\circ}$. 2. The error of hem circumference from 46 to 86 centimeter of waist size was between 0.11875 and -0.63125 centimeter in $180^{\circ}$, $270^{\circ}$ and $360^{\circ}$ flare skirt. This formula was less in the error.

  • Over the last decades, improvements in CPU speed have greatly exceeded those in memory and disk speeds by orders of magnitude and this enabled the use of compression techniques to reduce the database size as well as the query cost. Although compression techniques are employed in various database researches, there is little work on compressing multi-dimensional index structures. In this paper, we propose an efficient compression method called the hybrid encoding method (HEM) that is tailored to multi-dimensional indexing structures. The HEM compression significantly reduces the query cost and the size of multi-dimensional index structures. Through mathematical analyses and extensive experiments, we show that the HEM compression outperforms an existing method in terms of the index size and the query cost.

  • The expiration date of high energetic materials(HEM), such as HMX, RDX, TNT, is important. If the expiration date is violated, the expected specification of HEM would not be satisfied which may cause a different conclusion in an urgent situation. As a result, this HEM should maintain fresh conditions which cause the accumulation of waste HEM. If HEM is landfilled during demilitarization, the impact on living organizations is serious. Additionally, landfilling HEM has a possibility of explosion. In this research, the process flow diagram of the demilitarization gas treatment process was simulated while satisfying the law of the environment in Korea. After validation of simulation, it was optimized thermodynamically using Heat Exchanger Network Synthesis(HENs). This study is expected to enhance the energy efficiency of the original facility by suggesting developed designs. This research was supported by Agency of Defense Development NE32 Korea. • The hemming process, composed of flanging, pre-hemming and main hemming, is the last one of a series of forming processes conducted on the automotive panels, having greater influence on the outward appearance of cars rather than on their performance. The hem quality can be quantitatively defined by the hemming defects including turn-down/up, warp and roll-in/out. However, it is difficult to evaluate and predict the hem quality through an experimental measurement or a numerical calculation since the size of defects is very small. This study aims to precisely evaluate the hemming defects, especially turn-down and roll-in, through numerical and experimental approaches and to investigate the influence of process parameters on the hem quality, focused on how to simulate the same conditions as in the experiment by the finite element analysis (FEA). The FEA results on the turn-down and roll-in obtained from a model composed of the optimum-sized elements, including a spring element linked to the flanging pad, and given the double master contact condition between the inner and outer panels, had a good correlation with the experimental data. It is thought possible to make an early estimate of the hem quality in a practical automotive design by applying the methodology proposed in this study.

  • Hem quality can be determined mainly by turn-down and roll-in. Turn-down, that is created by the elastic recovery, can't be easily detected and measured since it is usually as small as 0.03 m. This study is focused on the precise evaluation of the hemming defects through analytical and experimetal approaches, and on the investigation of the influence of process parameters on the final hem quality. Implicit finite element analysis of plane-strain hemming process is performed by using a commercial code ABAQUS/Standard. Experiment and measurement is also carried out for steel and aluminium sheet metals, and the results are compared with those of analysis.

  • We published that bacterial heme was over-produced in a recombinant Corynebacterium glutamicum expressing 5-aminolevulinic acid synthase ($hemA^+$) under control of a constitutive promoter ($P_{180}$) and the heme-producing C. glutamicum had commercial potentials; as an iron feed additive for swine and as a preservative for lactic acid bacteria. To enhance the heme production, the $hemA^+$ gene was expressed under controls of various promoters in the recombinant C. glutamicum. The $hemA^+$ expression by $P_{gapA}$ (a constitutive glycolytic promoter of glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase) led 75% increase of heme production while the expression by $P_{H36}$ (a constitutive, very strong synthetic promoter) resulted in 50% decrease compared with the control ($hemA^+$ expression by $P_{180}$ constitutive promoter). The $hemA^+$ expression by a late log-phase activating $P_{sod}$ (an oxidative-stress responding promoter of superoxide dismutase) led 50% greater heme production than the control. The $hemA^+$ expression led by a heat-shock responding chaperone promoter ($P_{dnaK}$) resulted in 121% increase of heme production at the optimized heat-shock conditions. The promoter strength and induction phase are discussed based on the results for the heme production at an industrial scale.

  • This study aimed to develop a microbial process for producing aminolevulinic acid (ALA) using crude glycerol. In the culture of ALA-producing cells (Escherichia coli/pH-hemA) in a medium containing crude glycerol, the cell density and production were 1.8-fold and 1.2-fold lower than those obtained from pure glycerol, respectively. However, the cell growth and production were improved by supplementing the medium with trehalose (30 or 100 g/l). Engineered cells (E. coli/pH-hemA/pS-otsBA) were constructed to express otsBA and their culture performance was compared with that of control cells (E. coli/pH-hemA/ pSTV28). The effects of isopropyl β-D-1-thiogalactopyranoside (IPTG) concentration and the time of induction were examined to improve the cell growth and ALA production in engineered cells cultured using crude glycerol. When 0.6 mM of IPTG was added at the beginning of the exponential growth phase, the ALA produced by cells was 2,121 mg/l, which was comparable to that from pure glycerol. The results demonstrate that otsBA expression endowed cells with the capacity to tolerate the toxicity of crude glycerol for direct use.
