  • This study was carried out to evaluate the feasibility of using HDF as surface panels as well as core materials for flush door manufacturing. Six core constructions were developed and applied to manufacture door specimens and conventional skin door specimen was also manufactured for comparison. Door specimens were tested under changing interior environmental condition for 3~4 months during winter and summer seasons. During the test period, deformation of doors were measured weekly, and temperature and relative humidity of testing area were also recorded. From this study, it was concluded that HDF can be used to manufacture quality flush doors and core construction developed in this study showed good quality compared to conventional skin door. Deformation of doors increased as temperature and relative humidity of the surrounding environment increased. Flush doors generally showed less deformation than skin doors, and evaluated to be stable and good quality when compared to skin door.

  • We investigated an ecological impact of drought simulated by discharge depletion on the water quality and benthic diatom community in the indoor experimental channel. As artificial substrates slide-glass was installed in acrylic channel for 16 days. Channels were supplied continuously with eutrophic lake water with a discharge rate of 6 L $min^{-1}$ in duplication during the colonized period. And then during the discharge depletion period, three discharge rates were provided: NDF (No depletion of flow rate (Control): 6 L $min^{-1}$), LDF (Low depletion of flow rate: 3 L $min^{-1}$) and HDF (High depletion of flow rate: 1 L $min^{-1}$). Environmental factors in the water, such as suspended solid, Chl-$a$ and nutrients concentration, were measured with periphytic algae including AFDM (ash free dry matter), Chl-$a$ concentration and cell density at 1-day intervals. Light intensity increased significantly with discharge depletion (F=229.5, p= 0.000). $NH_4$-N concentration was highest at HDF. Suspended solid in outflowing water decreased at HDF (88%), LDF (97%) and NDF (99%), compared to inflowing water (100 %). Chl-$a$ in substrates increased more than two times at LDF and HDF than NDF (F= 8.399, p=0.001). Also AFDM and benthic diatom density increased significantly at LDF and HDF than NDF (F=9.390, p=0.001; F=6.088, p=0.007). In all experimental groups, $Aulacoseira$ $ambigua$, $Achnanthes$ $minutissima$ and $Aulacoseira$ $granulata$ were dominant species accounting for greater than 10% of benthic diatom density. The most dominant species, $A.$ $ambigua$ was highest at LDF, followed by HDF and NDF (F=8.551, p=0.001). In conclusion, the effect of drought simulated by discharge depletion in an artificial stream ecosystem caused significant changes on water quality and benthic diatom biomass. This result provides a useful data to understand the effect of draught on stream ecosystem in situ.

  • Wood composites are a hygroscopic material and have ability to exchange its moisture content with air. This study investigated the formaldehyde emission and moisture content change of four wood composites (particleboard (PB), medium density fiberboard (MDF), high density fiberboard (HDF), laminated HDF (L-HDF)) as a function of bake-out temperature and time. The composites were baked out for 1, 3, 5, 7, 10, 14, 21, and 28 days at temperatures of $20{\pm}2$, $35{\pm}2$, and $50{\pm}2^{\circ}C$ in a dry oven. The moisture content change was used to determine the emission bake-out of the composites. Best bake-out time results were obtained with after 7 days all composites. Formaldehyde emission values of composites decreased with decreasing moisture content for both temperatures. The formaldehyde emission results of bake-out temperature 35 and $50^{\circ}C$ showed a similar tendency.

  • The photoprotective effects of minerals from Korean indigenous ores, consisting mainly of sericite, on UVA-irradiated human dermal fibroblast (HDF) were examined. Zymographic analysis showed that the treatment of the minerals significantly reduced the UVA-enhanced MMP-1 activity and mRNA level. The minerals also showed strong inhibitory effect on MMP-2 activity and mRNA expression. Moreover, the minerals were better than polyphenol in reducing MMP-1 and MMP-2 expressions. Notably, the minerals significantly enhanced collagen biosynthesis in the HDF. Inhibition of the elastase activity and protection against the oxidatively damaged HDF cell were also found in the presence of the minerals. Taken together, the ore minerals may be used as the potent photo-protective and anti-skin-aging ingredients which can prevent skin cell damage by UVA.

  • Several studies have proved Hovenia dulcis extracts to be an effective antidote for alcoholism, and they are frequently used in the clinical treatment of alcoholic liver disease. The purpose of this study was to investigate the anti-oxidant and anti-senescent activities of 80% methanol fractions of H. dulcis Thunberg in human dermal fibroblast (HDF) cells. The ethanol ethyl acetate fraction showed the highest inhibition of 2,2-diphenyl-1-picryhydrazyl radical scavenging (RC50=3.6±0.8 ㎍/ml) as well as the highest total phenol content (417.2antiholic liver disease. Extracts from e & Tech., Sungkyunkwan University, progressed in the HDF cells, SM22 expression (p<0.001) and β-galactosidase staining intensity increased (p<0.001). An increase in SM22 expression is associated with slower aging which suggests that its expression is high in early aging. HDF treatment using the ethyl acetate fraction significantly increased production of EGF (p<0.01) and PDGF-BB (p<0.01) while SHH expression was reduced (p<0.05). These results suggest that an 80% ethyl acetate fraction of H. dulcis can suppress early aging and demonstrate the potential application of the fraction as a natural anti-senescence agent.

  • In most inverter/converter applications SVPWM method is the preferred approach for it shows good characteristics in linear modulation range and waveform quality. in this paper we propose a new carrier based SVPWM method for multi-level system. First we survey the conventional carrier based SVPWM method and investigate the problem of the conventional one for the multi-level system with the focus on the switching frequency harmonic flux trajectories. Finally we propose a new carrier based SVPWM method that can reduce harmonic distortion. Simulation and experimental results are given for the verification of the proposed SVPWM method.
