  • The discrete variables such as time and sequence must be considered for automating HAZOP analysis of batch processes in contrast with continuous processes. Because these variables can not be explained by the method used in the HAZOP analysis of continuous processes, we have developed the methodology for HAZOP analysis of batch processes on the basis of the relation between discrete variables and continuous ones. In this study, we have discussed the performance of the methodology on a Latex batch process to evaluate its effectiveness.

  • Recently, HAZOP has been used as one of the most effective way of qualitative risk assessment for plant industries. However, this technique requires much man labor to be successfully performed. This fact enables the adequate HAZOP worksheet program to help speeding up the procedure and managing the data of analysis. Based on the experience of HAZOP carrying out, the authors focused the purpose of this study on developing a useful and comfortable HAZOP worksheet program. The unique characteristics of developed program are the menu window expressed in common steps of HAZOP, versatile edit functions, and search menu for investigating the scenario data. The tendency analysis for existing HAZOP results was performed to validate the usefulness of the developed program.

  • Expert system for automating HAZOP analysis of batch processes In contrast with continuous processes must consider the discrete variables such as time and sequence. So in this study, we have developed the expert system for automating HAZOP analysis of batch processes to analyse time and sequence on the basis of the relation between discrete variables and continuous ones. Because these variables can not be explained by the method used in the HAZOP analysis of continuous processes.   • As electric and electronic control systems have sharply increased in vehicles, safety accident has emerged as an important issue. Therefore, in order to ensure safety of the vehicle, engineers are required to identify the hazards utilizing PHA and HAZOP, etc. in the early phase of development and implement safety mechanisms to prevent them. HAZOP has been widely used in a systematic manner based on guidewords. However, HAZOP identifies malfunctions from the top-level functionality provided by the system, so it cannot sufficiently identify hazards during the system operation. This leads to restrictions in designing testcases, because the safety requirements are derived from only some of the hazards. This research aimed to provide a hazard identification method utilizing Use case description, which defines operation procedure of the system and HAZOP and a testcase design method based on safety requirements. We introduced a case study on Smart Key Control System in vehicles and compared with hazards identification results based on HAZOP, to demonstrate the effectiveness of this study. The result of this study could potentially reduce development cost and increase system quality by adequately identifying hazards and safety requirements and designing the related testcase.

  • Hazard and operability (HAZOP) analysis is one of the safety analysis method that is used in the chemical complex, because it can systematically identify causes and consequences of all the deviation that could occur. Since this method needs to hire specialized experts, it is costly and time-consuming. Therefore HAZOP Expert System has been developed to automate this analysis. This approach introduced object-oriented method and knowledge representation which is hierarchical tree of units to supply flexibility in the system, functional semantic network, propagation equation and rule-chaining method to set up the expert system for automating HAZOP analysis.

  • Train control system require high level of safety since these are vital control system to ensure safe operation of the train. According to these reason, safety-related regulations for railway signaling systems are standardized in IEC. In Korea, many attempts are tried to procure the level to meet the international standards, but thats's efforts are beginning steps. HAZOP study is recommended for hazard analysis at IEC standards, but this method has several unsuitable problems because this method is developed in chemical plant domain. In this paper we recommend new method of HAZOP, named HAZOP-KR, which would be suitable for analyzing safety of the train control systems. An example of this method applied to real system is also included.

In this paper, we carried out a process hazard analysis using HAZOP in K chemical plant. As a result, we showed that the plant could be operated more safely and be saved a lot of money by eliminating several existing hazardous factors through the change of processes and designs.

  • 현 산업체에서는 사고를 미연에 방지하기 위해 다양한 위험성 평가기법을 이용하고 있다. 위험과 운전성 분석기법(HAZOP)은 대표적인 정성적 평가기법으로 체계적인 연구가 가능하며 brain-storming에 의한 폭넓은 평가 결과를 얻을 수 있으므로 화학 공장에서 널리 사용된다. 그러나 HAZOP Analysis는 여러 분야의 전문가들이 위험성 평가를 시행하여야 하기 때문에 상당한 비용과 노력, 시간이 필요하고 전문가의 자질과 컨디션이 결과에 영향을 미치므로 객관적인 신뢰도가 떨어지는 단점이 있다. 이러한 문제점을 해결하고자 하는 노력으로 HAZOP Analysis 자동화를 위한 연구가 지금까지 활발히 전개되었으나 대부분이 연속 공정에 국한된 것이었다.   • 본 논문은 안전등급 제어 기 기(Programmable Logic Controller) 에서 동작하는 실시간 운영체제의 안전성을 요구사항 단계에서 평가할 수 있는 검토항목을 개발하고 HAZOP(Hazard and Operability) 을 이용하여 현재 개발중인 PLC 운영체제에 적용한 경험 을 기술한다. HAZOP은 화학공장과 같은 산업에서 안전성을 평가하기 위한 방법으로 사용했던 방법론이다. 원자력발전소에 적용하기 위해 운영체제가 갖추어야 할 안전성 요건은 NUREG-0800의 BTP-14(Branch Technical Position)의 소프트웨어 기능특성 및 공정특성에 기술되어 있다. 이러한 기능적인 특성을 정확도, 신뢰성, 타이밍/사이징, 기능성, 강인성, 보안성 항목으로 나누고 세부적인 검토리스트를 만들어 HAZOP을 적용하여 평가하였다.
