Firmware Fuzzing Method through Pseudo-HAL Identification (유사 HAL 함수 탐색을 통한 펌웨어 퍼징 기법)

  • HAL-Fuzz, a fuzzing technique to find firmware vulnerabilities, is efficient by using the HAL function of the hardware abstraction layer provided by MCU vendors. However, it cannot handle most firmware that unused the exact HAL function. In this paper, we propose a new method for identifying pseudo-HAL functions to increase the fuzzing availability of HAL-Fuzz. In experiments, we identified not only the HAL but also the pseudo-HAL functions, implemented by the developer, and that fuzzing is possible.

Immunological Relationships among Fungal and Plant Phenylalanine Ammonia-lyases and Bacterial Histidine Ammonia-lyase (진균과 식물의 Phenylalanine Ammonia-lyase 그리고 세균의 Histidine Ammonia-lyase 간의 면역학적 관계 분석)

  • Phenylalanine ammonia-lyase (PAL) from the maize pathogen Ustilago maydis was analysed immunologically to obtain insights into the structural relationships between plant PAL and fungal PAL and between PAL and histidine ammonia-lyase (HAL). Cross-reactivity was found among all the PAL proteins from different species tested, using antibodies raised against both plant and fungal PALs. Both anti-Alfalfa and anti-popular PAL antibodies strongly recognized plant PALs but only weakly recognized fungal PALs. Antibodies raised against U. maydis PAL only weakly recognized the Rhodotorula glutinis yeast PAL. The anti-U. maydis PAL antibodies showed low affinity for the plant PALs but they bound strongly to Pseudomonas bacterial HAL. Significant cross-reactivity between the two plant PAL antibodies and the bacterial HAL was also observed. Both the anti-Ustilago PAL and the anti-poplar PAL antibodies displayed similar enzyme inhibition patterns, including moderate inhibition of bacterial HAL activity. However, the bacterial HAL antibody inhibited only Ustilago PAL. The PAL and HAL antibodies tested showed no inhibition against yeast PAL. This is first report on the immunological relationships between PAL and HAL.

  • We have developed the power assistive leg called HAL (Hybrid Assistive Leg) which provide the walking aid for walking disorder persons or aged persons without nursing person. We developed HAL-3 by considering some problems of HAL-1,2 which had developed previously. The mechanism of HAL-3 actuator could be simplified and sophisticated by using the harmonic drive. As the control signal of HAL-3 EMG signal was used. We proposed a calibration method to identify parameters which relates the EMG to joint torque by using HAL-3.   • This paper persents how to port HAL (Handset Abstraction Layer) on embedded Linux to support WIPI (Wireless Internet Platform for Interoperability). As smart phones are widespread nowdays, the operating system is changing from a simple kernel like Qualcomm REX OS to more feature-rich Linux kernel. For this reason, we investigate the internal structure of HAL on REX OS and design how to port it to embedded Linux. Careful analysis leads us to identify several porting issues such as thread support, graphical user interface. In addition, we describe some problems discovered during the implementation process and propose alternative architecture of HAL for WIPI on Linux.

Word Sense Similarity Clustering Based on Vector Space Model and HAL (벡터 공간 모델과 HAL에 기초한 단어 의미 유사성 군집)

  • In this paper, we cluster similar word senses applying vector space model and HAL (Hyperspace Analog to Language). HAL measures corelation among words through a certain size of context (Lund and Burgess 1996). The similarity measurement between a word pair is cosine similarity based on the vector space model, which reduces distortion of space between high frequency words and low frequency words (Salton et al. 1975, Widdows 2004). We use PCA (Principal Component Analysis) and SVD (Singular Value Decomposition) to reduce a large amount of dimensions caused by similarity matrix. For sense similarity clustering, we adopt supervised and non-supervised learning methods. For non-supervised method, we use clustering. For supervised method, we use SVM (Support Vector Machine), Naive Bayes Classifier, and Maximum Entropy Method.

Field Application and Evaluation of the ACGIH Hand Activity Level TLV® (ACGIH Hand Activity Level TLV®의 현장 적용 및 평가)

  • The Strain Index(SI) has been commonly used to evaluate the musculoskeletal disorders(MSDs) of upper extremities. Recently, the American Conference of Governmental Industrial Hygienists(ACGIH) adopted the Threshold Limit Value for hand activity level (HAL TLV) focused on the hand, wrist, and forearm. The MSDs risks of 37 repetitive works conducted at an automobile climate control system manufacturing factory were evaluated using both the HAL TLV and the SI, and the results by two methods were compared. Also, measured repetitive frequencies of upper limbs joint were mesured using electromyogram and electrogoniometer. The evaluation results of the HAL were related with the repetitive frequency data of upper limbs joint by electrogoniometer, and the NPF was related with %MVC of ECU. The evaluation result of HAL TLV was highly related with the SI score(r=0.66, p<0.01). Of total 37 tasks, 25 tasks(67.6%) were exceeded the TLV and 34 tasks(91.9%) exceeded the SI limit. Although there was a high relationship between the HAL TLV and SI score, the HAL TLV underestimated the risk in comparison with the SI. The correlation coefficients(r) between the HAL TLV data and the repetitive frequency of upper limbs joint were 0.45~0.55(p<0.01). The MSD symptoms was significantly different between high risk groups and low risk groups evaluated by HAL TLV(p<0.01), but was not different between two groups by SI. In conclusion, the HAL TLV is a proper tool for repetitive works.

  • WIPI is developed by KWISF(Korea Wireless Internet Standardization Forum) and a wireless internet standard platform adopted by TTA. It needs the certification Process for standard specification in order to confirm interoperability. The WIPI is composed of the HAL, the Runtime Engine, and APIs(WIPI-C, WIPI-Java). nl applications are implemented through WIPI APIs that can be finished by themselves or provided essential functions from runtime engine or HAL. Therefore it needs to certify where the problems occur when errors occurred in a application. In this paper we propose the PCT that certifies a WIPI platform's functionality and APIs and the HCT that certifies HAL APIs. Because the PCT reports the final certification results for the platform it is impossible to know where the problems occur when it fails to certify platform. So, it needs to certify the HAL regardless of platform certification.

Determination of Haloperidol Serum Levels in Psychiatric Patients with Gas Chromatography-Nitrogen Phosphorus Detection (GC/NPD를 이용한 정신분열증 환자의 혈중 Haloperidol 정량분석)

  • Analytical method of haloperidol (HAL) in serum which has been widely used in therapy of schizophrenic disorders is developed. Gas chromatography/nitrogen-phosphorus detection (GC/NPD) was used for this study. Bromoperidol was used as an internal standard and diethylether as a solvent of three-step extraction. The extraction yield in this procedure was $67.5{\pm}1.9%$ at 15 ng/mL. A good linear response in the range of 1~40 ng/mL was obtained with correlation coefficient of $r^2=0.999$. Detection limit was 0.5 ng/mL when 2 mL of serum was used. This method was applied for the analysis of HAL in serum of schizophrenic patients. After HAL decanoate (HD) was intaken as intramuscular route, HAL levels were determined at second week and forth week. From the result, the concentration of HAL at forth week appeared to 29.6% lower than those at second week. The present method showed low detection limit and high selectivity. Therefore it can be applied for the trace analysis of HAL in serum and the monitoring.

  • Conventional sensor node operating systems do not support sensor abstraction for sensor applications. So, application programmers have to take charge of developing the hardware and the device drivers for the applications by themselves. In this paper, we present an as architecture to support sensor abstraction. The as provide not only application programmers with API library to access sensor devices, but also sensor developers with HAL library to access sensor hardware. This can reduce the development burden of application programmers significantly. In this paper, at first, we define the sensor HW interface to ease the attachment of sensors. Second, we describe the sensor access API for application programmers. Third, we define the HAL library for sensor device programmers to use. Finally, we show that the as can support sensor abstraction by illustrating the sample programs.

  • The purpose of this study was to research Korean Jowoo-Guan and Chinese Hal-Guan and study transition and symbolism of the birds feather in the cap. The culture of ancient Korea was influenced by North Asia prior to the influence of the Chinese culture, One of the remarkable thing, as the cultural factor of North Asia is the birds worship thought. Korean Jowoo-Guan was derived from the birds worship thought. So in dealing with the plume of Korean Jowoo-Guan, we must recognize Worship to the bird and the symbolical meaning of the bird. The results of study was as follow. 1. Korean Jowoo-Guan was influenced worship to the sun, so it's wearing symbolized the governing class. As the Social development and governing class, the feathering cap was developed to a gold crown, and also the gold crown of Samguk times had been influenced style of North Asia culture. But afterwards the symbolical meaning of the bird was waning, only decorative meaning was remained. 2. Chinese Hal-Guan was warn in Joo-dynasty, but the symbolism of the plume in the cap was not similar to Korean Jowoo-Guan. Chinese Hal-Guan was symbolized bravery of superfluous soldier than Worship to the bird. But afterwards the symbolical meaning of bravery of superfluous soldier was waning, only decorative moaning was remained. 3. Though neighbor countries have mutually influenced and have similar cultural style, they have symbolism of themselves
